If someone flew a rainbow flag would you make the assumption that while being supportive of people who are 'non-hetero-normative' they are also the sort of people who screech bile into the faces of gender critical women, get them fired from their jobs and make violent threats to kill and rape women who publicly campaign against allowing people with penises into women only spaces and women only sports? The more deranged and abusive and offensive element of the trans rights activism movement?

Would you make that assumption about everyone sporting a rainbow? A simple yes or no will suffice.

I'm so sorry your neighbours are racist. We have racist neighbours too and we just put hope not hate and stand up to racism posters up, but I guess they might escalate. People who believe in Stephen yaxley Lennon and Nigel Farages nonsense likely had a difficult early life, difficulty in relationships and potentially weren't taught critical thinking skills. Quite a high proportion of people attending far right demos are also domestic abuse perpetrators so many of those were likely boys who grew up in abusive households themselves. It's easier to hate and blame others than make positive changes.

The uncontrolled migration is the cover they use for what is essentially their existing racism. They’ll reel more people in that way.

A Union flag with ‘unite the kingdom’ on is very much going to be referring to TR’s campaign and is more likely to be straight up racism than any genuine concern about uncontrolled immigration.

Why don’t you a) tell your neighbour how you feel, b) fly a flag of your own choosing from your garden, or c) accept it and do nothing.

People can fly any flags that they want in their homes and gardens.

But if people choose to fly a rainbow flag, I will make certain assumptions about their attitudes towards homosexuality.

Similarly, if people choose to fly a union jack flag with a racist campaign slogan on it, I will make certain assumptions about their attitudes towards race.

There's a very big difference between flying a flag and flying a flag bearing a slogan which has widely known far right connotations. Yes, it's the guy's own property. He can do what he likes. I agree that if it were just the Union flag you could interpret it as a British patriot wanting to reclaim their flag from the racists, but the addition of the words "Unite the Kingdom" are a reflection of the "Unite the Kingdom" rally organised by Tommy Ten Names in London in September this year which was nationalistic and racist, not patriotic (and was met by Stand Up to Racism - SUTR - counter-protesters).
Unfortunately, as you've already stated, there's nothing you can do but rise above it. Or maybe fly a Union flag from your shed with the initials SUTR on it ... 😉 I'm sorry you're having to tolerate this OP, but sadly, bigots and ignoramuses exist everywhere - maybe just pity him.

Just because we apparently don't have a 'tradition' of something doesn't mean it's wrong or bad to want to do it. What if people wanted to make it a tradition from now on? Ordinary, patriotic, non-far right people?

There was no tradition of displaying the rainbow flag either, until relatively recently. I trust you wish to complain about the people doing that too, and cast aspersions on their characters?

I find it quite handy to know who to avoid in the locality when newly erected flags have been put up.
