Who are you to tell others what they should be teaching their children.

I'm British, and I have taught my dc to be ashamed of those who appropriate our national flag for racist purposes that are at odds with traditional British values.

Seriously?

Your children are English and you should be teaching then to be proud of their English and British flags.

I'm not talking about the behaviour of public broadcasters or things that would be acceptable in a professional environment. I'm talking about experiences of the people that I care about, and the racism that they encounter on a daily basis. And it has been getting worse.

If people are flying a Union Flag with the famous racist Tommy Robinson's slogan down the middle, then they are either racist or deluded.

This will just create a sort of immigration Ponzi scheme - who looks after the immigrants when they get older? Or are you thinking they will all be having loads of children? In which case it's not surprising people are worried about becoming a minority group in their own country.
Instead of trying to find short term fixes, we need to take a long term view and manage the reduction of our population to a more sustainable level.
We need to find ways to increase productivity, reduce the numbers of younger people who are economically inactive, make it easier for women to have more children if they want them, and if necessary allow short term working visas for young people.

This is why I wear pin badges and a wristband. People can get wound up at the sight of badges all they like (if rainbow lanyards are anything to go by), but lay a hand on me and that's just plain assault.

Look, I cannot analyse the beliefs and motivations of every single person who went on that march, but I can say with confidence that anyone who genuinely cares about opposing racism would not go on a march organised by one of Britain's most famous racists. They just wouldn't.

I would say it's kind of the opposite. Think of the comedy shows from the 1980s/90s that have been given trigger warnings. I think people have got much more sensitive within the last 30 years and a great many things just aren't allowed to be said anymore. That doesn't sound like progress to me.

I know when it is being used to intimidate and divide. I object to it being used like dog piss marking territory on lampposts.

I still think Tommy Robinson is a racist, I think people are very racist/bigoted about Muslims in particular and this idea that our country is over run with immigrants is just total bollocks.

I know people who went on it and I don't think they are racist. I've known racists, I know even more people who are borderline racist and struggle to not lapse into lazy racist tropes when trying to verbalise how they feel about certain things, even though I know they are good people at heart. And I know some extremely intelligent people, more than capable of critical thinking, who are not racist but still support the basic principle behind the marches and the burgeoning movement we are seeing sweep the country.

I'm in my fifties.

Things were getting progressively better for many years, but they have been gradually getting worse again imo in the last ten years. People feel emboldened to say stuff now that they wouldn't have dreamt of saying 10 years ago.

Racism has done the exact opposite of becoming mainstream in recent years. How old are you?

It is not racist to think that immigration should be controlled, but it would be extremely strange for someone who doesn't have racist sympathies to go on a march organised by a well known racist.

He's an actual immigrant. After the UK voted for Brexit, Tommy rushed out, got himself an Irish passport and moved to Spain. He has a lovely villa, expensive holidays and a drug problem all paid for by the racist and the gullible people he grifts off.

He hasn't changed. He is as racist as he ever was. Sadly, racism has become more "mainstream" in recent years. That doesn't make it any less reprehensible.

Everyone makes assumptions. None more than the flag wavers.

Maybe talk to them, get to know them. Take people as you find them… you might have another neighbour with the same political views as you who beats his wife or downloads illegal content of children…

But you don't know the people flying flags are racist. Stop twisting people's words.

I know what it means. I also take very little notice of the bible. Everyone judges. Especially people who put flags up. The judgiest of the lot.
