Neighbour has put up huge Unite the Kingdom flag

a flag carrying a slogan associated with a racist organization is racist.

Because of the current massive racist flag flying campaign.

This stuff isn’t difficult to understand.

Please explain why someone flying their own countries flag is probably racist?

Sources for these things you mention? Who ever said our ancestors never did anything good or worthwhile, for example?

To paraphrase Billy Bragg-if you’re flying your flag for legitimate non racist reasons you don’t have to explain that you’re not a racist.

I’d just ignore it. His views are still his views with or without a flag. You can’t change it being there, but you can choose to be glad he has outed himself as someone whose views are opposite to yours and ignore him as you do now.
Someone in our street has a flagpole, they put up all sorts of flags, including the St George one recently. They also have two Easter Island heads on plinths either side of their drive, and decorate them with different hats. I barely notice now as I think it looks shit and choose to ignore.

I'd start with a flag that Tommy Robinson endorses.

It's interesting that you should mention the horrific attacks on Israel on October 7th two years ago. I have grave concerns about the Israeli government's actions in Gaza and about our own government's response to those actions. However, I would never go on one of the pro Palestine marches because it is very clear that some of the people on those marches have been using them as a vehicle for the expression of their antisemitic hate. I recognise that aligning myself with those people, and marching alongside them, might suggest that I was condoning the antisemitism, and I am categorically not willing to do that. Because it is wrong.

If people choose to march alongside racists, they are effectively choosing to condone racism. And as far as I'm concerned, that makes them part of the problem.

How awful that flying the country's flag is now being called racist. Our flags are beautiful and we should be proud.

That "fucking flag" is the flag of the country that you live in and the home of your ancestors. I suggest you get over yourself

Those behind Unite the Kingdom and Operation Raise the Colours are racist.

If they were just a bunch of merry patriots trying to cheer the place up, they'd acknowledge their campaign has backfired, got mixed up with racists and take them down.

But they're not a bunch of merry, wellmeaning, patriots and people, left, right and centre know it. Its just the far right who are playing stupid or are in denial.

A simple Google search will enlighten you. Even before this bizarre flag fetish it was well known that areas with St George’s flags were significantly cheaper to buy because flags lowered the value of their homes.

No, neither is, but anyone who knowingly turns up to a march led by TOMMY ROBINSON is racist, and anyone who knowingly turns up to a march led by a representative of HAMAS is a supporter of Hamas.

It’s not a march in support of the UK. It’s a march hosted by Tony Robinson and you go to hear him speak. You are either racist or ignorant. I think a lot of it is ignorance personally. Ignorance is dangerous though.

That some people think flying the Union flag is racist is dividing the country.

I am not sure it is. Depends on the reason you are targetting them? I.e. Hamas is a hate group, targetting them as being a hate group we would prefer not to have to deal with, is not racist.

Because my memory of the EDL was the T-shirts that said "black and white unite". I was quite confused because that doesn't fit with what people say about EDL. I think this thread was in feminism.

Anyway, I think some people are using the term racist as shorthand for anti radical Islam

Others will say to you that they do feel Tommy Robinson is genuinely racist.

It struck me as being important to know because There will be people here who are too young to remember the EDL and one of my young neighbours was also under the impression that there were skin colour and race issues attached to the EDL.

Put up a rainbow flag/ trans flag and when he has a big old tantrum you can suggest a flag truce.

I'm sick of the sight of flags. A load appeared on our high street. I complained to the council who said that they'd been out to inspect and that none were present. I've sent them photos as they are very much present, and places where they partially obscure road signs.
Three weeks later they're still up and more have now been added.
I found out that it's apparently not council policy to remove them.
It feels very unwelcoming. We have a reasonably diverse community where I live and I can't help feeling that this is the tip of the racist iceberg as today I noticed several zebra crossings have been daubed with paint.
It isn't patriotic. It's ridiculous.
