I don’t have a car at the moment (looking for new car) but my neighbour’s visitors have been parking on my driveway

It is definitely my driveway (has the numbers of the houses in front of the driveway).

AIBU to be annoyed?
She dosent even ask.

Its happened a few times now, if it happens again I am going to tell them to move their car.

AIBU to do this as I don’t have a car at the minute?

It is absolute bellend behavior. Id have the drive dug up, laid to lawn, maybe some beehives put in.

It would be shame if someone you knew came to visit (and to stay the night) and parked across your drive and blocked your neighbours visitors in.

Even worse if you both left on foot to go somewhere for the night and thus weren't even around for them to ask if you could move the car blocking them in.

🤣 What a huge pity that would be.

bugalugs45 · 11/09/2025 18:45

It would definitely annoy me if they didn’t ask, but if they did it’s no problem . Very rude not to ask !
I live in a permit area as close to a train station and it’s not unusual for a couple of us to park on other drives if visitors or tradesmen arrive , but there’s a always a text to check it ok first

Jamesblonde2 · 11/09/2025 18:44

What?! This is crazy. They shouldn’t be parking on your drive. Your CF neighbour has obviously told them to.

It’s very rude and they should ask first

I agree with pp that repeated use creates a sense of entitlement so best to nip it in the bud. Ideally have a word but if you can't bring yourself to do that put some planters or similar on the driveway.

We had sort of the opposite with some neighbours. Neighbour 1 didn't have a car for a while and Neighbour 2 (next door to them) extended her collection of planters on to the edge of Neighbour 1's drive. He didn't mind as they weren't using it and it looked quite nice. N1 told N2 that he was buying a car and she would need to move her planters and she was livid. She told him she would no longer be able to use her living room with the curtains open as she would be able to see his car through the window instead of her lovely flowers and for the next few years referred to him as 'the nuisance neighbour'

Tkaequondo · 11/09/2025 18:19

Get it towed away. Or tell your neighbor that you will be charging parking fees if she wants someone parked there again.

Willquery123 · 11/09/2025 18:13

Advertise it on Just Park or somewhere and tell her your charging for it.

Mugfills · 11/09/2025 17:51

Is this an actual drive on the frontage of your house or numbered parking spaces? The way you describe it as being numbered seems odd for a driveway.

If numbered parking spaces and she knows you're not using it/would know who to ask if the car needed moving, it would seem petty to object.

A driveway on your frontage feels different, although I can't say exactly why 🤣

BlueMum16 · 11/09/2025 17:51

I'd knock and tell the neighbour they need to advise their visitors not to use your private property.

Doesn't matter if you don't have a car or not. It's not their neighbours or their visitors right to use it.

Say something.

Account734 · 11/09/2025 17:46

I wouldn't mind if they asked. Just parking there and not asking would really annoy me.

DPotter · 11/09/2025 17:45

Even if you don't have a car - you might very well have visitors who do.

As suggested get some nice big flower pots and position them so no one can gain access. And let your neighbout know

Tablesandchairs23 · 11/09/2025 17:24

Your neighbour is a cheeky fuck. Tell her its not on. Get some cones and put them on your drive.

I’d say “just to let you know, I’ll be getting a car soon so your visitors won’t be able to park. Here’s my number though in the meantime for you to check if my drive is free that day”.
she’s a CF.

We don't mind at all, but our neighbours do always ask us first.

We also don't mind people, including Amazon drivers, using our drive to turn around in (as we're in a cul-de-sac), nor do we mind the neighbours' builders and tradespeople parking on our drive (but again, they always ask first).

MidnightMusing5 · 11/09/2025 17:12

My neighbours visitors park in front of my drive and have parked on my drive , when parking has been tight and I have a spot.

I have been totally fine with it because they have my consent first.

Lifelover16 · 11/09/2025 17:11

Fine if they asked. Might even be to your advantage as it makes it look as if the house is occupied.
But extremely rude if you are not asked.

BeeCucumber · 11/09/2025 17:05

Penguin Bollards are your friend.

Pollqueen · 11/09/2025 17:02

thaisweetchill · 11/09/2025 15:06

It’s a bit cheeky but if you don’t have a car I don’t understand why you’d want to cause friction with your neighbour? When you have a car absolutely tell them they need to move.

Yes, but they should still ask. Not having a car on your drive is not licence for any random to just park there

Friendlygingercat · 11/09/2025 17:01

I dont have a car or drive but I do have visitors and occasionally tradespeople who park on my drive. However my drive has lockable gates. I always offer to closethem if a tradie with tools needs to park his van there and pop in an out.

I did have a CF neighbour a few years ago ask if she could park "one of her" cars on my drive as it was "such a pity" that I didnt use it. I told her I would have to contact my mortgage company and insurer to find out the legal position and who would be responsible if the car or the drive were damaged. I told her that when I had done so I would "give her a price" but not to expect it to be a cheap option. I could tell by the frozen look on her face she was not asking to hire my drive but was looking for a freebie.

Such fun.

I directed her to the people next door who are often away and also dont have a car.

StewkeyBlue · 11/09/2025 17:01

Very presumptuous,

What if you had your own visitors? Or were expecting a trade van?

It’s wear and tear and you can get oil patches.

StrugglingMumwhoCares · 11/09/2025 17:01

Charge them for private parking, big sign should do it and a camera.

Zimunya · 11/09/2025 16:58

I think we need a diagram......

Dutchhouse14 · 11/09/2025 16:55

If they asked and the drive owner gave permission that's the one thing but parking on it without asking is way out of order and rude.
If my neighbour did ask and it was a rare occurrence, I had space and it didn't put me out at all then I would agree but this isn't what's happening in your case and I'd be cross as well.
