Mini pride....Is it going too far?

I was just looking for an event at a local historic house near me. I came across a mini pride day. Had a look and it's for LGBQT families.

I personally think it's OTT. Why is this needed? Can't they explain things to their own dcs? Why make a big thing of it?

Or aibu and it's a great idea?

An event for same-sex couples & their kids, yes, brilliant.

Something that normalises ‘gender’ and the idea of being born in the wrong body, no.

It's the same reason the 'heternormal' 'flag' is grey whereas the LGBTQIA hands knees and bumpsadaisy flags are all bright and joyful and attractive to kids.

It's called Indoctrination. Don't be dull like those bores, be a rainbow, be a mermaid, be a dolphin.

🙄

What's wrong with it? It's not aimed at you, clearly. Would it be offensive if there was a Women's day, or an event aimed at Muslims?

Didimum · 05/09/2025 09:41

There are enough non-LGBTQ events for you to attend, I'm sure.

OMGitsnotgood · 05/09/2025 09:40

Why don’t you go and educate yourself? It’s a long time since I read such an ignorant OP.

AnSolas · 05/09/2025 09:40

Its called business

By generating footfall the organisation will try attract people who will hopefully spend money on the day and come back.

If you run a touristy attraction not clashing with other local attractions events is good business as if you both are trying to sell your event into the same market at the same time rather than offering 2 events to the same buyers you miss customers and their cash/credit card.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/09/2025 09:40

Maybe just don’t go? You’ve probably hundreds of other days when you can go without being offended.

JesseGator · 05/09/2025 09:38

What s it to you? It never ceases to amaze me how much heteronormative people get their knickers in a bunch whenever a minority group gets something of their own. They won’t turn you love, stand down.

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/09/2025 09:38

You don't have to attend

Loadsapandas · 05/09/2025 09:34

Why shouldn’t there be a LGBTQ day?

More often than not anyone can attend so it’s not barring anyone.

WhatShoes4me · 05/09/2025 09:33

I've been living under a rock. Just googled and they've had them all over 🙈 There mustn't be a specific date though as the events are all different dates?

My DD (adult) is gay. I went to a pride this year for the first time to support her and it wasn’t family friendly.

I can see why same sex couples who have children might want a more family friendly event.

Eyesopenwideawake · 05/09/2025 09:32

If it's raising awareness and normalising all types of relationships that's great. If it's sexualising children then it's inappropriate. Hopefully the parents will be able to make their own decision.
