Why does everyone say they love being fat until they get their hands on skinny jabs?

I’m seeing this so much on social media. People screaming from the rooftops how they love their bodies. Hate comments come and they combat them with body positivity, I admired them so much.

Lately though, the very people who were oh-so-body-positive are popping back up five stone lighter. Some comment on it and some don’t, as if they’re waiting for people to ask. Hang on a minute, I thought you loved your big body? Did you love being fat or not?

Yeah, this one has evolved into a ridiculous bun fight, when it was previously an interesting discussion. Shame, but there you go.

If you want to go back to the original discussion it is fine.

I feel that I have said all that I wanted to say about Doctors being bribed at this point.

I am not dim at all. How low of you to resort to calling someone stupid.

The 1.1 grade that I achieved in my Bachelors degree makes me know that I am not dim at all.

Umm..not to be a twat but there's no such thing as a 1.1 You can have a 3rd, 2.2, a 2.1 or a 1st.

Self defence mechanism. Coping mechanism. Making the best of a shit situation?

No one loves being fat. No one is fat by choice.

What?! Being fat is absolutely a choice.

Im overweight but not obese. I could do with losing a few kg.

However in order to be the size of some of the body positivity movement women (easily 10 stone overweight) i have no idea how to get that size. I have no idea how i would be able to eat that much in order to be that size.

It is a choice

A very well written post, although a difficult one to read. Agix has explained it better than I ever could. But really, OP - the bottom line is you sound resentful of people who (probably as a defence mechanism) tried to come to terms with their size and not be forced into a slough of self-hatred. Now you seem to resent them because there’s an ‘east’ solution, and they’re rushing to take it. In the kindest possible way, what difference does it make to you either way, OP?

Nevertheless, I wish you both well x

It is a very well written thoughtful post and I do appreciate the OPs perspective

However:

I was, pretty much bullied for not wanting to be only 1lb over underweight by weigh watchers. When I didn't want to reduce my goal weight further to a new goal weight, once I reached that first goal weight I was KICKED OUT OF MY MEETING.

I know other people who have been encouraged to have chaotic relationships with food and weight through another "weigh loss for the globe" organisation and one that progressed to a full ED and was hospitalised all the while being praised and enabled by the group/org

On WLIs I have been able to stop and maintain whenever I've felt I needed to. Even if I hadn't yet reached some BMI goal/ideal This has helped me to adjust to the weight loss. There has been zero pressure from my provider like there was in traditional groups. I have only tried one provider

I have done it very slowly as I'm in more control than ever before. I never eat below 1400cals and I lose a max of 2lbs /week when I'm not maintaining. I've always been able to lose, but more chaotically (lose 4, gain 2, lose 3, gain 1 sort of thing). It's steady and consistent on WLI. Ive also never been able to maintain, I sort of rebel and go F-it. WLIs have given me head space for maintenance.

There is ABSOLUTELY a huge scope for abuse
Particularly as the users are already a group who have abusive relationships with food

But for me, WLIs have been the cure for the food abuse - extreme dieting yo yo, not another tool.

It DEFINITELY needs to be tightened up!
For example I believe that anybody needing the HIGHER doses should have to have a face to face consultation.

It should not be the default that you go up a dose each month.

There should be lower doses available for maintenance. As so many of us are out here microdosing off label for maintenance anyway. And the prescribers know this but the prescribing guidelines haven't caught up yet.

I'm not at all disregarding the OPs ED experiences or concerns. There are definitely some providers using the toxic tactics of the traditional diet groups such as promoting users who had dramatic fast weight losses.

But it's like GOOD fillers or Botox: you only SEE the bad results. The good results are people you think went au naturale!

@pamelanoon it appears that the only answer you would be willing to accept is ‘OMG you’re right, all doctors are evil bastards being bribed by the devils in big pharma and everyone should back away from WLIs immediately to stop the corruption’.

The truth is as always not that black and white. Are there some doctors who are more influenced by money than the heath of their patients, yes of course there are, it’s a big group of people, most will be good, some will not. Are WLIs bad because of this, no. They are a valid and beneficial medical invention for several medical conditions, they have been in circulation for decades treating diabetes, have undergone many studies which demonstrate their effectiveness. Are some people abusing them, yes, as some people will do for any drug that is ever made available ever.

You come across as somewhat obsessive and overbearing with limited to no ability to see that this situation is not black and white/good and bad.

I was replying to the posters who said "there is no way thst doctors are bribed, you are crazy etc etc"

They were very black and white. And wrong.

Agree, how can paying for an expensive drug forever be a good idea for weightloss? Its like botox as soon as you stop the wrinkles come back. There has to be a bad pay off internally surely? My sister did the injections, lost 2 or 3 stone in what seemed like weeks, it all came back when she stopped taking them as she could no longer afford it. Unsustainable and very un natural.

WLI won't be as expensive as they currently are forever - the Ozempic/ Wegovy patent expires soon, so generic versions will become available and reduce costs drastically.
It's costing me £29/ week on average though, which is affordable for me but I'm also saving on reduced food bills and not having much interest in Deliverooing. If costs don't come down though, £29/ week for life as an investment on my health feels like the best possible use for my money.
And yes, many people will be looking at it for life, just as they do for many other medications for blood pressure, depression etc. Looking at it long term might have been a better approach for your sister than what sounds like a crash diet. As we all know from years of experience those rarely succeed long term, with or without the help of WLI. It's no more unsustainable and unnatural as a long term plan than my wearing contact lenses or using deodorant for life.

Again you have no anger at all at the doctors accepting huge bribes.

Interesting. This is what lets corruption continue

I didn’t say that? I said I’m not angry at you. Just bored of you derailing the thread. Have reported so hopefully @MNHQ will do something.

Its very strange how posters are angry at me, when they should be angry at the corrupt doctors accepting bribes, and a system that allows this to happen.

Many individuals and organisations keep calling for more transparency of the money that doctors receive. But it hasnt happened yet

I honestly couldn’t give a monkeys. Mounjaro has been a life saver for me. Even if doctors are being bribed to promote ozempic, it doesn’t affect me and doesn’t take away from the fact that it’s a brilliant drug for many people.

What?

pamelanoon · 08/08/2025 12:43

KT1113 · 08/08/2025 12:41

Are the articles not saying the same thing? Drug companies pay healthcare workers to promote their drug?

No posters said that the first two that I provided were not specific enough, in showing that Doctors are actually bribed by pharma companies.

They asked for one showing that.

So I provided another one showing how doctors are bribed.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how the pharma company paid 22 millipn pounds to healthcare professionals in the UK, to promote Ozempic in the UK?
Do you still think it is a wonder drug.
A lot of the hype came from the marketing of it
Yes I think it’s a wonder drug because the results speak for themselves.
Being a commodity doesn’t make it less effective. Sky TV is pretty heavily advertised, it still does what they say it does.

You didnt answer my question. So answer that first.

Again, what are your thoughts on the five million pounds that Irish doctors received in payouts from pharma companies?

Well for 1. It's a totally different country and health system to where I buy my WLIs from so... Meh.

  1. It didn't "work", if you think it's proof that WLIs are being expedited by this, Ireland was behind most countries re availability of WLIs
  1. I never thought the pharmaceutical industry wasn't for profit, and wasn't open to corruption, that doesn't mean there can't be any good end products though

That was me that wrote that. I still haven't seen evidence of that.

Big pharma companies marketing their products to the people that prescribe them (whether ethically or unethically) is not evidence that a doctor is being bribed

The article is not about pharma companies marketing their products to doctors.

The article said that the doctors were found to be receiving secret payments from Pharma companies.

The article also said that the doctors refuse to have their names to be published.
