To think Tattle life isn’t actually that bad?

Firstly I am not a member, but I do have a read occasionally. I’m sure that there’ll be people here who don’t know what it is, or have never read it, so feel free to ignore. The website is always in the news and there’s a lot of uproar about it.

From what I’ve read and seen on Tattle, it’s no worse/different from the way people speak about celebs and sometimes to each other on mumsnet and other forums. There have been plenty of vicious threads on here about people. Tabloids have always trolled celebs too and they get away with it. Even posting unflattering photos with snidely headlines.

The only difference is tattle is mainly solely about discussing/criticising celebs/influencers.

A lot of influencers tell many lies and exploit their young children in order to sell crap to the public and people on tattle seem to call them out on their lies. Which I don’t think is always a bad thing.

I don’t really get the uproar about this particular website.

Not those posts specifically, but I’ve just dipped my toe back onto that website and seen a few threads about the instagrammer I’m referring to and it’s foul! Calling her child an over indulged spoilt brat, saying she looks an “absolute show” and to “buy a bikini that fits”.

I honestly can’t imagine spending my time looking at Instagram and then going ooh let’s see what all my little pals on Tattle are saying about this. It’s really pathetic.

I don't exactly disagree, but being bitchy/mean/horrible/critical isn't illegal and shouldn't be illegal. Unless things are taken directly to the person in question (which I'm sure happens, although whether or not that can be convincingly linked to Tattle I'm not sure - could easily be someone they know IRL using it as a cover) surely the best thing to do is ignore?

I think the debate about gender in recent years is a good example of why we shouldn't force people to put a name to their online posts. Stating that you believe in two sexes, without any nastiness, could get you in severe trouble in some workplaces and social circles. It would have a massive chilling effect.

Have you actually seen those posts or are you repeating what the “influencers” have alleged?

Theres a few “influencers” that live local to me who have had their home addresses shared on there, they’ve had social services called to their places of work with other posters egging them on and all gleefully commenting about it. One girl had a letter delivered by hand to her house because someone shared where she lived.

Making people sign up with ID might stop some of the more unhinged behaviour, whilst allowing room for discourse on public figures, which, let's face it, is always going to happen. Gossip is a part of society.

I read it a bit after MOD gate, but there's too little moderation. People take it too far and are whipped into a frenzy because they know there's no accountability.

I adore tiktok and will defend it forever, but so many people hate it because they don't see what I'm seeing because of the algorithm. I think it's possible for Tattler and MN to fall prey to the same kind of criticism if you don't use nuance, critical thinking etc. "MN is full of blah blah blah because 3 whole posters were horrible to me"

This. I’ve dipped into the Meghan and Harry threads and beat a hasty retreat - they were pretty vitriolic. But the threads I follow are legitimate critiques of people who choose to be in the public eye. One subject in particular portrays themself as an “expert” and makes all sorts of misleading claims - they exploit vulnerable people and give really dangerous “advice” (e.g. mental illness isn’t real, you don’t need medication).

The threads about this person are full of knowledgeable people who have professional experience in the field in which this person is trying to make a name for themself. They are doing important work in raising awareness IMO and thank goodness for Tattle for providing a forum for this.

It also really opened my eyes to the way influencing works and the way these people make money out of women’s insecurities. Another important public service IMO.

Tattle is like any social media platform - bits of it are awful, bits of it are ok and it’s pretty easy to avoid the awful stuff.

I would also add that the posters on Tattle may be a bit brutal about celebs and influencers but they are nothing but polite and supportive towards each other - unlike Mumsnet where people come to for advice and some get torn apart.

If you don’t like it don’t visit it (nobody forced these celebs and influencers to read it) but don’t try to control what other people talk about.

PassingStranger · 26/06/2025 21:39

It says alot about people who've got the time and the inclination to read about others they don't know and spy on them, and then bitch about them.
Not a very attractive thing to admit too.
Do they actually think the people who they are talking about really care about what they think of them anyway.
Downside of the internet.
Pointless waste of time.

somewhereoverthechipshop · 26/06/2025 21:23

I’ve seen someone on tattle asking what nursery an influencer’s toddler went to!! Terrible!

I would be fascinated to know how many of the influencers have an account on there themselves.

Was't it the site where the midwife person was revealed to have an account and was posting on other influencer's threads?

Those in glass houses etc

Yep. Clemmie Hooper / Mother of Daughters. She ended up getting some kind of slap on the wrist from the NMC because some of her comments on tattle were racist.

YANBU. There are lots of lovely threads on there and the only people who don't like it are the influencers who are perfectly legitimately discussed and they don't like not being able to control the narrative.

Sunshineandblueskysalltheway · 26/06/2025 14:50

I just saw that some of them are going to be summoned to court.

SaturdayDream · 26/06/2025 14:50

I used it a few years ago as I found there was some very supportive threads in the advice and off topic sections. I used to like the dating after lockdown thread.

Do you think that all really happened or just them trying to get more viewers? Why would social services turn up at someone’s place of work? That just doesn’t sound quite right to me. Not that I’ve had any dealings with social services.

Yeah it was genuine, it was a good while ago but I remember some Tattle users reported her while she was pregnant as a safe guarding issue, saying she was blind drunk while pregnant. They were going to brands that this lady works with and slating her to try and end their work contracts together. It was so upsetting as she was heavily pregnant and having to go through all of this, from anonymous strangers.

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/06/2025 14:32

I'm an occasional Tattle user who isn't remotely worried about being sued as I've never posted anything remotely controversial on there, unless my thoughts on random TV programmes are going to land me in court.

Tattle would be fine if it was actually moderated in line with its own rules. There are some absolutely horrible threads on there. There are many, many other threads that aren't.

If the average influencer actually allowed comments on their own accounts that were critical (not abusive) and engaged with what was being said, I think a lot of Tattle would die a death to be honest; it was the suppression of any sort of adverse comment on Instagram under the #bekind banner that led to discussions elsewhere. It's also to be expected that not everyone will like you and your content; hard to hear or see but true. If that's expressed in a reasonable way it's just life. No content creator in any medium should be above reasonable comment and criticism. Film directors don't accuse movie critics of trolling them for example.

Tattle has problems with some of its threads and users and denying this is the case isn't helpful. Yes, influencers post content that allows people to know where they live and what school their children are at etc, and as I said, if their comments section was open to people asking them if this is sensible, maybe a conversation could be had about it. But it in no way justifies anyone acting on that information in the name of showing them what a mistake they've made, and as for anyone criticising their children or reporting them to the authorities for what they perceive to be seeing online, that's completely out of order and Tattle fails to enforce its own rules.

I saw an instagram post a few years ago on an influencers page. She lives in my street but posted a picture of her house keys saying "finally I can afford to buy my first house in London". We don't live in London and some of the comments outed her address.

I think you get nutters everywhere but it looks like Tattle don't have an option to report offensive or concerning posts where most other places do.

noblegiraffe · 26/06/2025 08:31

If this ends up with regulation so that users have to provide their real identities to internet forums then that will fuck Mumsnet.

ExtraOnions · 26/06/2025 08:30

I’ve not seen any of the behaviour that various IG people are reporting about Tattle … let’s face it, these people do anything for clicks (money), including publishing details of their children’s names, faces, schools, incidents & accidents, health issues, likes and dislikes. They publish their own details about their houses (to try to get freebies), and the ins and outs of thier lives. If you are going to publish your details on the Internet, to try and make money, you can start crying when other people repeat them.

I don’t frequent the showbiz boards there myself, I don’t know who most of the people are. I have though, found Tattle much more supportive than MN around my daughters disability, and the WLI I take.

I’ve also seen much worse language on MN against other women, and also Children. I saw a thread once where a user suggested another user poisoned the child from next door, as she had eaten her sons Chocolate (and no, it wasn’t said in jest)

Tattle is an excellent forum. Subjects are discussed on there which don't get aired enough because other media (including Mumsnet) routinely censor for commercial sensitivities or they have 'be kind' editors / imagined audiences.

I've seen some impressive research, especially on current affairs discussions, and it disrupts the business models of some egregious 'influencer' grifting.

Some threads are just fun, some are wild but I don't consider their celebrity subjects to be vulnerable.

I'm howling at po-faced headlines about 'the most hateful site on the internet' - have these compliant journos never seen the 4Chan / 8Chan / supporters of race wars / rape site hells on the internet? Seriously?

The reason it's being targeted is its main user demographic is women, many of whom are middle-aged, and have the temerity to take the piss out of slebs, think Lucy Letby is guilty and impolitely discuss transwars instead of being nice, quiet, supportive ladies.

When it was threatened a few months back, looking like it might be pulled, users were literally rebuilding it from scratch - I don't think it's going anywhere. I was there when Huw Edwards' arse appeared in real time - great days.

Would you be pleased if a system of registration were introduced so that people couldn't post anonymously?

I read it about 6 months or so ago when I became aware of it via here and following a few people on tik tok. What I read was utterly horrific. Following people, finding out kids schools and calling social services, finding out employers names and calling them and following cars by posting reg numbers and addresses online. I genuinely do not understand why anyone would do this. That's all before some awful comments about day to day life such as what they eat for breakfast, their clothes, make up and figure etc.

There is no excuse by anyone to be on those forums ever. That said I do know there are pages relating to politics and the news etc. I would sincerely hope those are informative and fit for purpose.

There’s a few influencers who have shown their children in school uniforms with the school badges clearly visible, they use their children for views and show these children in their most vulnerable moments which is awful. Many influencers share so much online it’s not difficult to work out where they live or what schools their children attend.

There’s one particular group of influencers who put Regina George to shame with their online bullying of anyone who disagrees with them.

Which influencer was it about because I’ve only heard influencers saying this without it being fact checked.

I’m following the drama like a telenovela to be honest.

JustMarriedBecca · 26/06/2025 07:48

I don't follow Tattle. I have seen a lot on IG from influencers who are now threatening users of Tattle with exposure, reporting to their professional bodies. Lots of "we know who you are and are coming for you" and will expose you all online stories.

THAT makes me uncomfortable. Firstly, it's REALLY legally hard to get evidence of who is who. I'd be terrified if I was an influencer of saying the wrong thing.

Secondly, if you think someone has committed a criminal offence, report them to the police and let the police do their job. Don't commit the same hate fuelled, harassment you are accusing someone else of.

I understand the influencers have probably lived with trolls etc. for ages but if someone was genuinely being stalked then that should have been a police matter a long time ago.
