To think Tattle life isn’t actually that bad?

Firstly I am not a member, but I do have a read occasionally. I’m sure that there’ll be people here who don’t know what it is, or have never read it, so feel free to ignore. The website is always in the news and there’s a lot of uproar about it.

From what I’ve read and seen on Tattle, it’s no worse/different from the way people speak about celebs and sometimes to each other on mumsnet and other forums. There have been plenty of vicious threads on here about people. Tabloids have always trolled celebs too and they get away with it. Even posting unflattering photos with snidely headlines.

The only difference is tattle is mainly solely about discussing/criticising celebs/influencers.

A lot of influencers tell many lies and exploit their young children in order to sell crap to the public and people on tattle seem to call them out on their lies. Which I don’t think is always a bad thing.

I don’t really get the uproar about this particular website.

Several people have posted on here saying tattlers were posting to ask what nursery a child went to. I tried searching several variations of this and can't find a single time a tattler was asking for the nursery a child went to.

It appears as if mn'ers are repeating the claims from the influencer. So much noise around tattle, but often nothing to back up the claims. If this stuff happened and is live, why are there never screenshots or links?

If someone has asked for details like a nursery, I hope it was reported so they can be deleted and banned. I've seen tattle be strict on that.

I agree it's weird to be interested in an influencer's child, but that underlines the whole point that these children shouldn't be allowed to be used as adverts on social media. Influencers aren't worried about all the people that are obsessive with their children if they're fans, when that is creepy and the gov should bring in laws against it.

CrazyOldMe · 19/07/2025 15:41

They allow users to mock children, even babies! I cannot believe anyone would defend such a thing.

The likes of Katie Price put themselves out there and thus criticism of them is somewhat fair game, but her kids did not ask for or choose fame! They should be off limits, especially the likes of Harvey!

@ExtraOnions Is anyone watching an Irish IG/TikToker that’s saying she’s been stalked & harassed ? I got a message about her, it wasn’t bad or anything, me being nosey I asked what’s it got to do with me & I got a further message which wasn’t that bad either. Her stalker must be someone else if she’s saying she has to keep her family safe

404notfunny · 17/07/2025 18:46

@Queenofclean101What I don’t like about so called influencers is that if you comment on their post or if you call them out over something & they don’t agree with you, you just get ridiculed. They either delete your comment & block you or else make a video of your comment mocking & making a fool out of you. It’s so nasty & it’s really so unfair to be shut down like that.

Meant to reply to @SuburbanSprawl there. I take a different view from you but discussion is important, I'm glad people are having more discussions about 'the internet' and the megaconglomorates and algorithms which dominate it. Many years ago, as it was just emerging, an academic wrote that the internet could not be a good democratic space for public discussion because it would become dominated by corporate capitalism and would polarise and distort public conversation. How prescient she was.

Still, we have our little spaces - Mumsnet and Tattle Life are more alike than not.

BuildsLikeASkyscraper · 06/07/2025 00:45

I don't think the subjects of Tattle Life are random strangers, though. They are not Mrs. Miggins at no. 22. They are public people, publicising themselves for money.

As the site itself explains, adverse reviews, critiques and warnings about 'influencers' can be blocked on their own platforms, there's nowhere else to feed back except sites like tattle which are free from the various shared commercial interests of big platforms.

You also actually need to access Tattle itself to read the crit.

Responsibility for content has always rested with publishers, for the good reason that they control the content. I don't see Mr. Zuckerberg, Mr. Musk or the Newhouse family being impacted by the variously libellous and aggressive content their platforms allow to thrive. But the owner of Tattle, a glorified bulletin board, is on the hook? Nah. Mr. Musk is fond of a bit of libel himself of course but has enough money to make it all go away.

If ordinary people have to reveal their identities to take part in net conversations, they will effectively be shut out of participation and critique of more powerful entities.

Viva Tattle.

Awful!! That really is low. It’s not her daughter’s fault she’s been put on social media. Glad it’s being shut down if they think it’s ok to laugh at little ones.

just looked at the Lauren Goodger page. Fine they are taking the piss out of her but someone has mocked up pictures of her little girl. Shouldnt be allowed to talk about innocent children

They talk about her little girl constantly.

Mocking her appearance and her name and what she eats and where she goes.

They have made up nicknames for her and jokes about her name.

They act all concerned about her welfare, making out it’s so unfair that she’s got a mum as awful as Lauren.
“Poor little thing, she deserves a proper mum”
“her diet is awful, I hope social services get involved.”
“Lauren never does anything with her, she watches Cocomelon 24 hours a day”
“she never gets any exercise, she’s going to end up really struggling with her weight and will end up like her mum”
“poor LaRose doesn’t seem to have anyone in her life that loves her, just LG, and she doesn’t love her”.

Theres worse than that, that’s just off the top of my head.

Imagine when she’s old enough to read that?

somewhereoverthechipshop · 29/06/2025 22:07

justtootiredtoday · 28/06/2025 15:10

Agree. It’s dangerous.

It was the Lauren Goodger thread for me.

I’ve been on the internet a long time and would not say I was naive.

But I was utterly shocked at the level of bile and hatred being spewed out on a daily basis.

Didnt take long to notice that it was the same core group of posters, and that they were just lurking about, seemingly 24/7, pouncing on her Instagram stories as soon as she posted anything.

They all had to create new insta accounts because they would direct message her abuse, she would block them, so they would just start up again with a new account.

The things they would say about her and her young daughter were totally vile. This is a single mum who obviously has some issues and has fallen a long way from when she used to be on tv. Yet the Tattle posters obviously have some issues themselves. The focus they had on stalking her was such that they couldn’t possibly have had jobs. They just spent all day harassing her, talking about her on Tattle, and trying to find out where she lived, where her daughter went to nursery etc.

I’m by no means a fan but I made the mistake of saying something like “that’s a bit much” at a particularly nasty comment and I was booted from the site! Shock Said it went against their talk guidelines. No idea what guideline I could have violated with such an innocuous comment, but there you go.

Total echo chamber. A load of braying donkeys egging each other on. Awful.

I'm not in favour of 'the internet' being de-anonymised, no.

As well as small numbers of lunatics who attempt to commit crimes in real life by obtaining names, addresses etc. from internet sources, it would provide a wonderful resource for all ruling authorities and law-enforcers. It may be hard to escape mass surveillance but we can try.

I don't think the offended feelings of slebs or the exposure of internet 'influencers' to disapproving audiences is a reason to attempt to surveil all publics. Ordinary law-abiding people, as usual, would have fewer tools to evade surveillance.

Tattle is a visible-to-everyone site on the catalogued internet. It is subject to the law as we all are. It will have to fight its own battles publically. Meanwhile, I am absorbed by Mushroom Murders and happy mockery of the 50 million dollar Bezos wedding.

I understand the concern about surveillance.

My view is that there's no other area of human engagement where one can write untrue, unfounded, madly speculative, deeply unkind things about strangers without them having any recourse in law. And I don't see why that should be permitted on the Net.

The law as it stands puts the responsibility of policing such content on the site - the publisher, as it were - not on the writer, because the writer is pretty much untraceable. I think that's wrong. If it were publishing, the writer would be responsible for what was said, and the publisher would be responsible for broadcasting it without having checked that it wasn't libellous.

I suspect that in twenty years' time there will be tracking of the contributions to public forums, and people who've grown up with it will say, "You mean that back then anyone could say anything about anyone, however untrue or uncheckable. and there was no way to stop them doing it?"

Point is, the laws we have now against slander and libel would completely cover this - we just need the accountability that would allow them to be applied.

CherryRipe1 · 29/06/2025 14:35

I skim read the more scandalous stuff on there & must say quite a few of Tattles predictions do turn out to be true. I found out I have some fairly famous family & started to read bits and pieces about them. Am also in touch with their mum. Jeepers, when I stumbled upon the ongoing Tattle threads about them, particularly one of them, I was shocked. They knew everything about the family & stalked them. Some of it is awful, really scathing and mean. Unbelievable. I'm presuming the family must be aware.

3678194b · 29/06/2025 00:11

I used to be on it. Not for celeb goss but found some of the crime cases quite informative. I actually found those threads more friendly than here in a lot of cases. People were able to explain crime proceedings etc which I found interesting. So I don't know what the celeb threads are like.

Unfortunately I deactivated my account and can't rejoin without a code, so if anyone is willing to give me a code please PM me and I can give you my username and the threads I was on. I know it's a risk that others don't want to take though 😓

QuesodeLuna · 28/06/2025 19:35

I am not a member but I do read some of th threads.

Some of them are completely unhinged and there are certain things (like someone found the listing for a Celebes house and picked apart where all the bedrooms were and where the kids must sleep?) which is gross

there are also some very fair and solid points though. A lot of the issues people seem to have is with people exploiting their own children, basically asking for free stuff when they are already very wealthy and the sheer consumption of some people. I agree it’s gross.

I also don’t agree that just because someone has out themselves in the public eye means they are a good person or should not be held to account for these things.

The whole idea of “be kind” seems to be turning into “you can’t give any sort of opinion about someone who is already sharing a large amount of very personal things with the world”

youdidaskthough · 28/06/2025 18:33

The Charlotte Dawson thread on tattle is another level of insane.

I think she’s a scammer and a twat but they are actually quite frightening in their hatred of her.

cardibach · 28/06/2025 18:30

The Rest Is Entertainment podcast did a piece about this recently. Explained very clearly what the issue is and talked about a court case (successful) relayed to it. Very interesting even though it was the first time I’d heard of the site. Have a listen.

DiscoBob · 28/06/2025 17:04

I used to be on there a fair bit. I don't know anything about influencers so only really look at the traditional celebs boards.

People swear more and say more blatant insults against people, but other than that it's not that bad. The posters don't seem to attack eachother that much. Some stuff on there is funny and I quite like hearing people's encounters with celebrities.

At the end of the day there are loads of forums where worse gets said, Reddit, or pretty much any forum relating to boxing/MMA/rugby/football for example.

It just seems that because it's more aimed at women it gets a bad rep. Like how dare women say rude things about eachother?

No, I meant generally on the internet. It wouldn't be hard to do. When charging for anything on the internet, ID is needed.

So not just Tattle. Everywhere.

Now, you may say that that's not likely. But I mean it as a thought-experiment.

Would you be in favour of contribution to Tattle Life not being anonymous?

TrixieFatell · 28/06/2025 15:30

I used to be on Tattle. I always loved the off topic section and the posts around celeb gossip. I also feel there are other sites just as bad etc. I'm also not a fan of influencers and think they feel they are better then they are because they advertise free stuff on social media. I think what happened to mother of daughters was beautiful to watch and really showed her for who she was.

But there are some threads that just go too far even if the mods like to say there is no abuse. People discussing how children look, calling them names etc. Posts on the Megan markle thread are rabid at times. Then you have members that are obsessed with the influencer in question such as someone on the Mrs Hinch who keeps track on her nails to try and catch her out. Maybe it's sour grapes from me. I got banned for trying to moderate, I was pointing out that calling a child a name wasn't really nice and against forum rules (apparently).

I'd happily see an end to the influencer age, and happily see an end to the influencer threads.

HarlowTown88 · 21/06/2025 23:59

So you’re saying that spotting a content creator/influencer in your home town, following them around and taking videos and pictures of them is not bad?

Telling the forum “I know where they live” and because tabloids are “allowed to do it” that makes it okay?

Ringing up every school in the area to find out where their children go to school and then reporting them to Social Services is acceptable and not that bad?

The above is an unhealthy obsession with someone you don’t like to get validation from strangers on the internet.

I wonder if you’re one of the guilty ones who is panicking and deleted their threads, comments and accounts.

Agree. It’s dangerous.

You mean unlike all other internet message boards? Unlike Mumsnet, where we post anonymously? Tattle Life users alone would have to put their names and ID so internet police could find out who they are and ... (what exactly? What will happen to Cheryl from Rotherham?) Why? What do you suspect Tattlers of that you don't suspect Mumsnetters of?

I wouldn't care about anonymity, tbh, I am no-one anyway, if it weren't for the small numbers of truly deranged (and anonymous) individuals out there.

This. I’ve dipped into the Meghan and Harry threads and beat a hasty retreat - they were pretty vitriolic. But the threads I follow are legitimate critiques of people who choose to be in the public eye. One subject in particular portrays themself as an “expert” and makes all sorts of misleading claims - they exploit vulnerable people and give really dangerous “advice” (e.g. mental illness isn’t real, you don’t need medication).

The threads about this person are full of knowledgeable people who have professional experience in the field in which this person is trying to make a name for themself. They are doing important work in raising awareness IMO and thank goodness for Tattle for providing a forum for this.

It also really opened my eyes to the way influencing works and the way these people make money out of women’s insecurities. Another important public service IMO.

Tattle is like any social media platform - bits of it are awful, bits of it are ok and it’s pretty easy to avoid the awful stuff.

I would also add that the posters on Tattle may be a bit brutal about celebs and influencers but they are nothing but polite and supportive towards each other - unlike Mumsnet where people come to for advice and some get torn apart.

If you don’t like it don’t visit it (nobody forced these celebs and influencers to read it) but don’t try to control what other people talk about.

Why do they want to, haven't they got their own lives, to be getting on with?
Also if they don't like them, why bother to read about them?
