If a patient requests same sex care and a doctor lies to them and performs intimate care, that should be a sex crime

as a general principle everyone should be offered same sex doctors and nurses and carers for intimate care and anyone who lies or omits the truth about their real sex should be prosecuted.

do you agree?

BTW, I do of course believe that people with disabilities, mental health problems etc etc should be able to work as doctors, and have known many who have been excellent doctors (I am a doctor). But the type and extent of disability or problem can be very relevant. Someone with an IQ of 50, for example, is not going to be acceptable, no matter what supports are in place. That is the sad reality for severely learning disabled people who would have liked to go to medical school. It just can't happen. The same goes for people with delusional ideation which affects their understanding of reality, especially biological and medical reality. People who are severely dishonest are also precluded from continuing to practice. Upton is either very learning disabled, deluded, or dishonest. I couldn't possibly say which...but whichever it is, why is he working as a doctor?

I knew someone who desperately wanted to be a doctor but was agoraphobic (and didn't become a doctor as a result). How far does it go/ Do we allow them to identify into being at work? Or only be at work part of the time to manage their condition? It's not that much of a stretch from pretending to be the opposite sex. There are video calls after all. But it's not in the patients best interests, clearly.

One of the main things about this case i think is disturbing is that the NHS seems very focused on the wants of the paid employee with a special identity rather than the needs of the patients they're supposed to serve. They claim that they're strapped for cash yet will be pissing away hundreds of thousands on defending this position. I wonder how well the NHS would run if all this bullshit was stopped in its tracks and the money diverted to frontline patient care.

As one of the HR advisors seemingly said it was 'ludicrous' to deprive patients of an experienced and capable nurse - yet presumably suspended on full pay whilst needing to fill that role, so there's immediately a huge cost to the taxpayer - due to the unevidenced and clearly potentially malicious allegations of one junior doctor WITHOUT ANY INVESTIGATION. I do not believe it was impossible to get SP's side of things quickly. The fact is, they didn't want to because they knew they were trumped up allegations, confirmed in court when Upton - realising he was under oath perhaps - rowed things back quite considerably.
