To think mid cycle bleeding is common

Hi, I have been suffering from midcycle bleeding for 3 or 4 months. I get pain on my left side, which feels like a dull ache. It goes around to my hip and lower back on the left side. The bleeding is light, and only when I wipe and pinky red coloured. It is intimittent stopping and starting again over about 2/3 days. I am also constipated. I am 39, no pain during sex and no vaginal dryness.

What could this be? Has anybody experienced similar symptoms?

I'm the same but only ever in my right ovary. The pain became horrendous in the 3 years leading up to menopause. GP suggested it could be an ovarian cyst twisting causing the pain but scans didn't really show anything that needed treating. Gynae just sent me back to GP for pain killers.

Thank you, it is worrying isn't it? I am sp sorry that you had to go through this. My Mum had benign ovarian cysts, which makes me think that maybe I do.

Last month I didn't have any issues, the month before I did, and this month I do. If it is alternate ovaries each month, it makes me think it is something to do with my left side.

Dh, and I have had a good feel of my stomach, and no lumps, or bloating where it should be, both sides feel the same. The pain has lessened today, and I expect it to be completely gone tomorrow. If all symptoms haven't gone I will ring the GP.

So common there's a name for it.

OP, please don’t trust Wikipedia as a reliable source of medical information. Jeez.
speak to your GP.

I would definitely get it checked out, as you say it could be hormonal since you have come off the pill but I think any change from your own normal should be looked into. Usually it’s nothing but it’s always best to be as sure as you can be.

FKAT · 11/11/2024 21:48

It isn't common and it does need checking out. Doesn't mean it's anything serious but also shouldn't be ignored.

Smear tests are tests for asymptomatic population to see if you test positive for HPV which might lead to cervical cancer. They are not catch all checks for every gynae issue or disease.

See a gynae at the sex clinic or your GP.

Don't want to panic you. I've had irregular bleeding and it's never been anything serious but I got it checked out every time.

OP says it’s new for her. I didn’t say it doesn’t happen but it’s really not common.

I am thinking about it, and I was on the pill for years, maybe this is why. It has been happening since I have no longer been on the pill, after having my dcs.

When I have checked my calendar I didn't have it last month, but did the month before. Hopefully this is a good sign. God it isn't easy being a woman is it?!

I have had this after my pregnancy 15 years ago. Coincidentally my ovulation pains got worse. I have had a lot of gynae issues/surgery in the past.

I am now 50 and it's still bloody going. It was always dismissed but got a bit worse a couple of years ago so I got smear/scan/blood test and all ok.

So normal for me but was investigated to get there.

Thank you all, I will make an appointment at the gp tomorrow. If it was serious wouldn't I suffer from it all of the time? I'm thinking it could be hormonal possibly. The bleeding isn't heavy and not alot, and goes completely away until my period which is like clockwork, and not irregular.

No, it wouldn’t necessarily happen all the time. I hope all is ok.

I honestly get this every month. It's not even ovulation. I have my period then it stops for a week and at about day 10-12 I have 'mucky' bleeding again. 16 years and yes I've had an ultrasound.

But OP like you I was worried and went to the GP. So do that for your own reassurance.

Thank you, that is so good to hear. I have been confusing in my post, I don't have bleeding for 2 or 3 days. It's more intimmitent spotting, not heavy and no continuous. For instance, I may have nothing at all all day, then some spotting.

Thank you. I'm pleased you have said ewcm, I don't want to be graphic, but I get a lot of that. And it can be blood tinged as well. Did it stop? I have wondered if it is a form of endometriosis, I read sometimes cysts can develop and then heal themselves.

Yes, mine did stop happening. I thought maybe it was to do with hormonal changes at that time. I did have internal scans etc but nothing of concern showed up. Definitely get it checked out though.

Definitely needs checking out. Pain on ovulation, yes, bleeding for three or four days, no.

dorabora · 11/11/2024 20:52

I get this too since I've had my second child 9 months ago, it is around ovulation time though and only happens every other month and only like once when I wipe, not for days.
I'm also constipated and have been for about 2 years since the babies !!
It could be normal op but do get checked out and post back !

It is for me, for the last 16 years since my second child. Never before. Like clockwork.

I have probably been confusing, I had light bleeding when I wiped one day, nothing the next at all, then light today, but not all day, just spotting.

This is a symptom of cancer so you should definitely get checked out.

Barleycat · 11/11/2024 20:48

I started having mid cycle bleeding just after the birth of my second child who is now 17. Had loads of tests and scans but nothing untoward and was clearly linked to ovulation. Still happens now.

I started getting this in my 30s. I would get sharp ovarian pain, then ewcm which would be a bit blood-stained. I was having other gyne issues and was referred to a gynaecologist, but I never got any answers.

Only had that when pregnant. Have left ovary side pain every month during ovulation. Only had bleeding mid cycle when I took mini pill. I'd get yourself checked out.

LaLaLaurie · 11/11/2024 20:46

It could be ovulation but if it’s new and along side pain and constipation then it’s really worth getting booked in with your GP asap.

You must see your doctor asap. If you explain what is happening over the phone you should be prioritised for an appointment.

It might be ovulation pain/bleeding but in my experience you’d have had that from a younger age . Any bleeding outside your normal pattern of menstruation needs to be investigated. Don’t wait.
