So called ‘protesters’ from the far right?

6 racists turned up to a immigration advice centre in Brighton, 2,000 peaceful counter protesters played instruments, sang, chanted ‘We are many you are few, we are Brighton who are you!’

There was no trouble, just a lot of people making a point.

So if we can do it, without racist language, violence, looting etc why can’t they? They were fine, a ring of normal police ( no riot gear needed) surrounded the bigots then removed them in a van.

YANBU - they are racist right wing thugs. It’s no real protesting.

YABU - they’re legit. And if they want to smash up the place then it’s because they’re provoked by ‘2 tier’ policing.

Er, no, it's not. Free speech is the right to express any opinions without censorship, restraint or the fear of retaliation.

Shouting abuse in women's faces, throwing things at them, harassing them, threatening to kill, punch, rape them, silencing them, banning them and cancelling them because you don't like their opinions is not free speech.

And women aren't saying trans people shouldn't exist, but I suspect you know that already.

Oh and for the record posie parker has actually said it would be better if trans people don't exist on one of her many videos

Brighton has some pockets of deprivation but it is objectively less deprived as a whole than places like Rotherham and Blackpool.

You can look at this map if you don't believe me.

And?

No one should get violent but if you are going somewhere saying opinions then expect backlash that's how free speech works. I side with trans people I am a woman to but if I started saying how women shouldn't exist I would expect your lot to tell me to shut up etc that's how it works. What alot want is to spout some horrible stuff and have no challenge that's not how protests work

Well I was in Brighton Last week and it was bloody horrible. Lots of youths having fights down the promenade and filing each other. Armed police arresting people who were trying to escape. I will never go back.

So it's not all peaceful protests

So basically tourists or people down from bearish towns or nearby towns in the south but probably unlikely to be residents of Brighton. I don’t know anybody that lives here that socialises around those parts of town. It is the same area as West street which is not very nice at all!

Brighton doesn’t just have wealthy people, there is a whole spectrum, an array of people with high, median and low incomes!

So if you associate yourself with someone like that people might call you nazi scum to.

It doesn't matter whether an event is associated with KJK or not. A Woman's Place attracts the same protesters and the same abuse https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/f/wpuk-fringe-report

They target any event or organisation that campaigns for, or offers, single-sex spaces.

And KJK, along with the women who attended the event, can go wherever they like. And they should be able to do so without having abuse screamed in their faces and things thrown at them.

I don't know anything about Brighton as I live in a poor town up north. However if folks used their brain they would see they are being manipulated into not blaming he tories etc capitalism and money not being spread around evenly. The fact is to blame immigrants for everything is just wrong. Don't get me wrong there are issues gotta remember I guess Rotherham girls that got exploited by msulim men . My own had similar but we never look ag the shit load of white pedophiles for example. Also a few are not being very honest on here Kelly on the ket women speak ilk has followed tommy Robinson etc had a few links with some on the far right done interviews with her states that she's not a feminist. So yes she does side with their side she's openly said stuff on her videos. So if you associate yourself with someone like that people might call you nazi scum to. I am sure folks will fight back also why did she go to brighton? Big lgbt town that was deliberately provocation sorry bit it was

I feel that some of the posters on this thread have never set foot north of Watford.

Yes, Rotherham is deprived and run down, but not all Northern towns are like Rotherham. All towns and cities have deprived areas, but I wouldn't be lumping York, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle together with Rotherham.

Even Barnsley town centre is is more vibrant and up and coming as it has had a lot of investment. About 50 would be rioters turned up in Barnsley town centre yesterday to cause trouble and were met with an equal number of peaceful protesters. One person was arrested on suspicion of possessing a banned dog breed and possessing a controlled drug.

Salarygoals · 09/08/2024 09:02

Oh can they leave Three Bridges alone. Crawley is my old hometown. It's had immigration since it began. Its just a working commuter town and dull as hell. Different groups have happily coexisted for years.

VictorianBigot · 09/08/2024 09:01

Interesting about the anti fascism in Brighton and also the I don't know what you call it, anti feminism. I didn't know that.

Another peaceful example from the Antifa crowd. Two of the men they were lobbing things at reportedly had nothing to do with the rioters.

julydecembermay · 09/08/2024 08:58

Oh to add, imagine coming on a thread outlining a situation whereby people have protested against right wing thugs in good faith then slagging off the town as it's too "rich" therefore suggesting the residents have no idea about poverty and trying to invalidate their anti fascist message. What complete bullshit and this makes me really angry. The idea that Brighton is some posho utopia is ridiculous. I have to walk my daughter through streets of homeless and passed out druggies every day FFS. There may be some rich people but there are extremely poor people and the divide is wild. It's not an easy place to live if you're poor.

Salarygoals · 09/08/2024 08:56

Brighton is different. It always has been. It's a liminal place, it was a getaway for the rich and royals from London and a getaway for holiday makers. Also has a left leaning Uni. It's always had a Liberal inclusive anything goes vibe, that's in its DNA. That's what makes it, IMO awesome, and unique and one of the reasons it's been Green (in parts) for years. Its not comparable to many other cities but it's worth holding onto as it's pretty special. But I don't agree with the spirit of saying if Brighton can do it, why can't everywhere else. It's a bit elitist.

Another one who doesn’t have a clue about Brighton! Yes, just like Blackpool reflected in the prices of private housing 🙄

😂Another one who doesn’t have a clue about Blackpool!
I know about house prices in Brighton, and that it has leafy suburbs. Blackpool has leafy suburbs with expensive housing (more like the prices of Manchester, of course, than London), theatres and concert halls, is within easy distance of the Lakes, the Lancashire Fells and also Lytham St Annes, where you find antique shops and very well-stocked charity shops and super beaches (Blackpool has blue flag beaches). Blackpool has, like Brighton, a strong gay culture with a massive Pride event in the summer, which I have attended. A large swathe of hotels and B&Bs are run by gay couples, too.
Blackpool also has a rich cultural life. It hosts the largest firework competition in the world as well as Punk Rebellion (it was Punks who held the line against rioters in Blackpool, as it happened to be the Punk week-end). Blackpool hosts the world ballroom dancing finals - it is famous for this. I have seen ballet and opera, the RSC (a dismal Romeo and Juliet, unfortunately), serious plays and West End shows in Blackpool.
Like Brighton, Blackpool has a dark underside - Brighton has always been a bit louche, ever since the Prince Regent decided to build the Pavillion. Blackpool's problem is the grooming of underage girls and poor schools, Brighton has lefty anti-facists who will not tolerate those who do not agree with their world-view, resulting in the appalling treatment of the women who came to Kelly Jay Kean's Let Women Speak event, in support of single-sex spaces for women.1 There is also the ongoing case of a rape victim 2 suing for the right to have a women-only rape crisis group, as well as those which admit men who 'identify as women' but do not tolerate women who do not wish to discuss their ordeal with men present (there's a thread on the feminist board).
Both places seem to have drug problems - though that is not unusual anywhere, sadly.
As I said, very like Blackpool.

Brighton has lots of deprived areas and residents (source: poor resident). Rents are sky high and many people live on or below the breadline or in poverty. It's very run down in many places, with high homelessness, drug issues and can be a very difficult place to live if you're poor.

Brighton has huge amounts of deprivation. In the surrounding estates people don't feel like they have a stake with the touristic part of town.

Salarygoals · 09/08/2024 08:41

In Brighton there was also a group of around 30+ who surrounded them and shouted Fascist Scum Off Our Streets. Saw it on X.

I’m an honorary Brighton person - I have always had family there, and have lived and worked there in the past. I was there this last weekend in fact.

I was so proud of Brighton when I saw this!

The people of Brighton have literally no idea of the issues faced by other areas of the uk due to migrants. They are very naive. The rioters are completely wrong in their actions, however there are normal people who have reservations regarding the arrival of large numbers of young men with different ideas of how people should live their lives. Especially regarding how young girls should be treated purely based on the fact they are out and not chaperoned by an adult male. To think these are not real concerns purely because the protests have been hijacked by trouble makers is to ignore the issues and give more traction to those who would use them to serve their own trouble making agenda.

I saw this footage at the Brighton protest. I agree. I don't like seeing masked men shouting for whatever reason. They were shouting fascist scum. It makes me uneasy. More male aggression.

It also reminded me of the aggressive behaviour of the people shouting at feminists that I've seen. The antifa people seem really aggressive.

Not in any way defending the right wing people. It is indefensible what we've seen lately.
