My son just called me mummy

He’s 5. He’s non verbal with Autism and has not shown any real inclination to talk.

This last 2/3 weeks he’s started ‘demanding’ food which is brilliant, but tiday he saw me and shouted ‘mummy!’.

I can’t believe it. I could cry ❤️

So pleased for you... My ds2 is profoundly deaf and autistic... He took a long time to speak... When he tried to say "Mumma" it didn't sound anything like it... I had several months of people tutting and staring disapprovingly when he wandered around looking for me shouting "BUGGER, BUGGER!" 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

BitOutOfPractice · 10/08/2023 21:46

Well that’s just the loveliest thing. I’m so happy for you and him

That is so heartwarming to read and it must have really touched your heart. Must be so hard for him as imagine how long he wanted to say that. Such a lovely positive post. Wishing you all well.

Can I make a suggestion? Write all of these little lovely moments down and date them, then on the 31st December sit with a glass of wine and read them all back. It's a brilliant way of remembering the best moments and a nice New Year tradition too.

That's a really lovely idea! It means you'll always have a record of each step, and can look back & think 'wow. My little bean...'

Congrats OP! I almost feel a bit tearful on your behalf at what must have seemed something you thought might never happen. Clever little bean - and well done to you & everyone who loves him Flowers
