Dog friendly supermarket

Yesterday at about 11.45 I went to ALDI Hatfield and saw a dog in there.
It didn’t appear to be a service dog - no obvious jacket or peas stating so. The lady with the dog was very loud in praising the dog so wasn’t even trying to be discreet. The dog was spaniel size, looked like a Tibetan terrier to me. By the time I saw them they were at the checkout then a few minutes later they were walking around again as it looked like the lady had forgotten something.

AIBU to think the staff shouldn’t have allowed this. I love dogs but this was completely inappropriate.

I don't see what the issue is. It's not like the dog will be jumping up and licking the packaged food? Dogs walk on the floor. Plus they are allowed in restaurants and cafes which sell food. I never see yappy or aggressive dogs in those kinds of places, I think 99.9% of owners know if their dog can behave in public or not and take them/don't take them accordingly.

Unless I've just been lucky so far!

What's the problem if the dog is well behaved?

The problemS are that:

A) Aldi is a food shop, and
B) Not all dogs are well behaved. If the policy is to allow dogs, then all sorts of yapping or aggressive dogs would be allowed also.

It's becoming more common I think. We have a whole shopping centre (a MacArthur Glen) that welcomes dogs which is completely fine but I saw a dog in John Lewis last week and one in Marks and Spencer's food.

I'd love it if I could pop into places like B&Q or Decathlon with my dog but supermarkets aren't the place for dogs.

I love dogs but I'm bloody fed up of them suddenly being allowed everywhere.

If the shop allows dogs then the shop allows dogs.

If you don't like it all you can do is complain and then shop elsewhere.

It might have been one of those therapy dogs . Some places ask for a covering letter but they don't need a jacket stating so . My friend has a therapy dog it's a tschitzu. It goes everywhere with her

YANBU. I would have approached management and asked them to clarify their dog policy.

If it was to allow all dogs, and not just guide dogs, I would have left my shopping and gone elsewhere.
