We went to a theme park with friends today and their similarly aged DD (4 a few weeks ago) was 20cm taller than my DD Shock

ok if she is she's forever ill. then you need to get her accurately measured and track her height and weight for few months. if there is no growth recorded referral to growth clinic.

in meantime ask for referral to dietician and feeding specialist (they will work with older kids who are food refuseniks) keep an accurate food and drink diary everything she eats and drinks and quantities recorded for at least a week so you can discuss with community dietitian.

restricted diet itself doesnt need to mean it's bad in itself or few calories, what are the food items she eats? are there fats/protein/carbs? you could also supplement eg pediasure if she will take that.

keep her on gluten products for a coeliac test.

gininateacup I know what you mean about your DD being noticeably taller than her peers. DS who is in reception is like that. They all line up in the morning before they go in and he and another boy in his class both really stand out height wise.

Diddlydokey · 11/04/2016 11:34

DS is 3.10 & 106cm tall

gininteacupsandleavesonthelawn · 11/04/2016 11:33

DD will be 5 next month, she was 116cm when I last measured her in January. I'm 5ft8 and her dad is 5ft10. She's noticeable taller than most of her peers and people do expect more of her than her age... I feel
Guilty the she's probably been 'babied' less because if it.

LissaLoves · 11/04/2016 11:20

She's low for weight as well I think. She weighs 27lbs and her 14 month old brother is 26lbs! She was always plump when breastfeeding but self weaned at 2.4 and has looked skinny ever since. Her trousers hang off her and she's forever ill.

Well my DS1 turned 5 last month and he is 121 centimetres, which is approx 4ft. He's tall and looks more like he's 6/7 rather than a just turned 5 year old.
His younger brothers are big for their ages as well.

TeenAndTween · 11/04/2016 10:22

OP You need to go back to your baby book and look to see what percentiles she was on when born and in first years. If she has always been smaller then that's OK, but if there has been a recent(ish) drop, e.g. from the 9th percentile (shown as a solid line in my book) to the 2nd (also solid line) then personally if you are concerned I'd pop to the GP.

The other thing is you would expect weight and height to be on similarish percentiles.

My DD has been around the 2nd percentile all her life, she on track to finish at around 5ft or so I think. A low percentile isn't an issue in itself, but a drop, especially if linked to poor eating is worth checking.

teacher54321 · 11/04/2016 09:30

Ds is very nearly 4 and he is 110cm tall and weighs 21kg. He's between the 91st and 98th centile and has tracked that since he was born. He is the tallest in his nursery class apart from one boy who's 6 months older (September birthday)

htdef · 11/04/2016 08:54

My 2 year old is around 95/96 cm, I'm 5ft and my husband is 6ft 5in. I always worry that my son will end up being massively tall, and getting picked on for it. My husband hates his height and I don't want my son to go through the misery of that too.

He is also fair haired like his dad, and I'm worried (bit of a strong word) if we have another and it's a boy, he'll end up being short and dark haired like me, and they'll look like Del Boy and Rodney!

I'm much shorter than some of my sisters, some people are smaller so try not to worry. I'm sure the main reason you are concerned is because of ongoing health problems, but their height doesn't sound worryingly small to me. If there are any issues it should be picked up at assessment, even though it must feel agonisingly slow.

Bear in mind growth spurts too, I stopped growing at 13, whereas other people who were originally smaller than me carried on and now I'm much shorter than them, so he has plenty of time.

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 11/04/2016 08:51

DS 3.5 is 104cm

Bungleboggs · 11/04/2016 08:41

When mine were 4 they were in 2-3 clothes and at 5 are not much bigger. Very prem though so i think that might be why. Only ever on the 2nd centile and never been above that line. Annoys me when people always comment that they are small, never would i say to a parent "oh isnt your child chunky/fat" but its ok to say mine are small. (Not that it bothers me Angry)

Pengweng · 11/04/2016 08:31

My DTs are 4 in a 3 months. One is 104cms and the other one is 97 cms. The little one is the smallest in her class but i'd say the bigger one is about average height.

katienana · 11/04/2016 08:05

I worry about him being cast as the "big kid" or being a target for older kids, he also has a huge appetite and I worry that he eats too much. There is always something to worry about.

katienana · 11/04/2016 08:02

My ds is 3.5 and 108cm. He wears 5-6 clothing. He's really solid and needs the room in the shoulders! I dread to think what size his first school uniform will be when he starts in Sept 2017!

WhirlwindHugs · 11/04/2016 08:02

Please don't worry, hopefully during assesmemt you can get help with the eating.

My 2yo and 4yos are both very fussy eaters, the two year old is fairly average height and the 4yo is at the smaller end about 97cm. He's still okay at that height though - has actually improved he used to be 0.2 centile!

MN seems to be the land of taller than average, brighter than average kids so I would take the results you get here with a pinch of salt.

Thefitfatty · 11/04/2016 08:00

118 cms and 4 year 4 months. He's a good 2 inches above the second tallest kid in his class.

allowlsthinkalot · 11/04/2016 07:58

There is a huge variation and healthy children come in all sizes. I have one dd who wore 7-8 clothes at 4 and was head and shoulders above the rest of her class. My other dd still wears 2-3 clothes at 4 and is 3ft 3. I'm not sure what that is in cm but she is little!

LatriceRoyale · 11/04/2016 07:54

My soon to be 4 year old girl is 110cm.

winchester1 · 11/04/2016 07:54

Bloody hell my kids are giants 15month old is 83cm and the 2.7 yr old around 95cm. We get the odd comment but I hadn't thought they were this odd in height.
I thought standing with me, a 5ft adult was just making them look tall.

But as others said if the are following their centile line and weight and height centiles roughly match it's all fine.
They don't make gems as big as bricks.Smile

BrightandEarly · 11/04/2016 07:52

One of my DC is short (not very, 25th centile). The other is really tall (98th centile).

At age 2 DC2 is now almost the same height as DC1 who is nearly 4! The nearly 4 year old was 95cm at Christmas, last time I measured.

Paddingtonthebear · 11/04/2016 07:52

3.5yr old DD is about 98cm. Which I believe is completely average. Size 3-4 trousers are big on her .Most people seem to think she is quite tall though for some reason.

bluejasmin · 11/04/2016 07:39

I'm not Sure on my four year olds exact height but he is the smallest in his whole school and everyone refers to him as little blue . We are both tall but recently our Dd was under failure to thrive but after all the tests , hospital appoints , etc it turns out she's just petite . The other kids are all very tall for their ages .

NicknameUsed · 11/04/2016 07:29

DD grew from 105 to 111 cm during the 10 month period that I recorded her height at age 4. She was 134 cm at 8.5.

At nearly 16 she is 5' 6", so just 2" above average height for a woman.

Busybuzzybumblebee · 11/04/2016 06:37

Ds is 26 month and 92cm on the 99.6 centile, his hv at his check said she'd never seen such a tall 3 year old Smile

Mistigri · 11/04/2016 06:18

Mine were both about 106cm when they turned 4, so a bit taller than average but not huge.

It doesn't tell you anything about future height though! DD was fairly tall right through childhood but her adult height is short. Her brother looks likely to end up taller than either of his parents. Their heights at age 4 were within a centimetre of each other!
