I'll try to keep this short.

A friend of a friend (FoF) is a backstreet breeder-being an animal lover I 100% disapprove.

One pup of the last litter was rejected by Mum.

I was advised about this in the middle of the night, pup was one week old, I went to emergency vet and purchased pup formula and rushed over with it.

Three days later, I was called by FoF, pup won't take formula, again, me being an animal lover-morals told me to go and help. I went to supermarket, purchased greek yogurt, syrup, a syringe, goats milk, stuff I knew is okay for pup to have, drove the 45 mins there to help, got pup to feed, came back.

BSB then tried to raise pup herself but couldn't cope with litter of pups, two other dogs, Mum etc. Pup fell and hurt herself few times and also had narrow misses with Mum who was still out to kill her. I took pup on myself. I live with a friend who I checked with if this was okay and if he was willing to be part of it as obviously he would be, living with us both. He doesn't work-I do so I had to ensure he could and was willing, to take care of her when I wasn't about.

He's also daft for animals, like me and agreed and has done the care when I've not been here.

Since then I've taken pup to vet twice, taken care of her, done night feeds, bought food and more formula you get the picture.
I realise, I didn't have to do any of this and it has all been my choice.

Now, my friend and I have a dog each, so we live together with our two dogs. Luckily both okay with pup.

Friend's said he doesn't want pup to go back to BSB, doesn't want her to end up in a potentially dodgy home, thus will happily keep her himself. However, BSB wants paying for pup.

BSB has now sold all other pups, and has said she'll give my friend a discount, meaning instead of paying £4-£600 , he can have pup for £200.

People aware of the situation have all said, pup would be dead without mine and his intervention, therefore BSB shouldn't charge him at all.

I honestly do not know. Some people have said haggle, others have said point blank pup should be given to him, as the situation means pup would have died if not for our intervention.

What do you think?

Can I have a PM too please Pink ? Also, I think you are amazing for saving that puppy's life! Smile Nice work! I agree with sending her an invoice. And I'd report to her to the various authorities who might be interested in her activities, but then that's just me.

lucymootoo · 13/01/2016 01:28

Pm me please. I can't believe they had the cheek to ask for payment for a puppy that you saved. I agree with the others who said send a list of everything you paid for out of your own pocket for reimbursement

slithytove · 13/01/2016 01:22

Pm please :)

OneMillionScovilles · 13/01/2016 01:16

Your welcome Pink Smile and your right about puppies chewing it's part of they're development.Alot of animal behaviour experts now liken it to how a young baby will chew on objects and fingers not only can it ease some of the pain caused by new teeth cutting through they also do it as a way of exploring they're new surroundings.Even though it's usually a pain when they're chewing things you don't want them to it's usually a good sign that they're developing appropriately.

We have 3 dogs 2 girls and 1 boy all different breeds and they all chewed things when they were young. My parents rescued many dogs over the years as I was growing up and so did my Brother and all of those that were puppies chewed things around the house as well.

If the puppy does seem very distressed with the new teeth coming through there is teething gel for puppies you can buy now.We had to get some for our youngest dog because she was really struggling with the pain bless her and it really helped.

"BSB has now sold all other pups, and has said she'll give my friend a discount, meaning instead of paying £4-£600 , he can have pup for £200."

Send the BSB a letter saying:

Dear BSB,

Thank you very much for your offer of £200 discounted price, as opposed to your standard charges of £400 to £600, for a puppy such as this.

Although this is not acceptable to us, and we will not be purchasing, I am really pleased you have raised the subject, as I was beginning to wonder when we were going to discuss reimbursement by you, for the outstanding charges/time incurred by me, in saving the life of your rejected puppy.

These charges currently amount to £620, breakdown attached. Payment in full is due immediately and, if not received within five working days, we will have no option but to retain the puppy in part-payment of the sum due.

Yours sincerely
PinkPjamas

Yes trionic. I've emailed two specialists mentioned on the last thread and a fairly local one I found, and also spoken to a puppy socialisation centre. No reply from the first two but then it has been xmas so I'll wait a day more or so, and the latter quoted me £350 for one session-I simply cannot justify that amount of money. He also put me off him in the conversation several times, for example one thing said was;

Me: She's fairly normal as far as puppies are concerned in a lot of ways-I don't think her chewing or biting ankles as we walk past is a concern, It's just the overtly aggressive behaviour

Him: Nope, puppies don't chew things or bite ankles that's definitely NOT normal.

I've had puppies before and am inclined to think he was just trying to get £ out of me, they've all gone for ankles or chewed at a young age, I think It's just what puppies do. No qualms on being corrected, though. :)

Pink you and your friend that you live with are bloody amazing, thank God there's people like you 2 around that were willing to step in and do so much for the poor little pup.

Like others have said YANBU and there is no way I'd give the breeder a penny and like others have said if there is anyway you can report her or if you know someone that would be willing to report her then it would be well worth it.It could very well save any poor future dogs and puppies going through the same thing again at the hands of that person.

MackerelOfFact · 29/12/2015 00:03

I was about to suggest telling her the pup had died too. Then get it chipped. If she twigs later on that the dog is still alive, I doubt she could prove the one you had was the same one.

TrionicLettuce · 29/12/2015 00:01

Presumably this is the breeder of the wolfdog puppy?

If so she absolutely needs reporting. Genuine wolfdogs can be vastly different to "normal" domestic dogs and they really need to be in properly vetted homes, not handed over to whoever is willing to stump up the cash for one. If the mother does have the wolf content you stated she is on your other thread then a DWA licence is required to keep her. If she's not properly licensed then the council will probably be rather interested. HMRC is also worth a shot.

As an aside, have you contacted the folks at Wolfdog Rescue yet? They should be able to help with the issues you're having with the pup and, given her breed, it would be a good idea to get sorted as quickly as you can.

bettyberry · 29/12/2015 00:00

how much did you spend altogether on the care of the puppy? Vet bills, food any scripts inc puppy formula etc. Provide copies of receipts along with your invoice for 2-2-1 care you and friend have provided for puppy by the hour.

If she refuses tell her she can take up the case with a small claims court. Keep all your receipts and costs of course just in case she does but I doubt she will take it up legally because she isn't taking care of the animals in her care and committing fraud by not declaring the income.

That's how I would do it personally.

My friend suggested a threat to report her to RSPCA and DWP would sort it out but that is a bit extreme imo.

Mmmmcake123 · 28/12/2015 23:59

As pps have said you could itemise what it has cost so far, which is good advice, but if you are happy to keep the lil pup I think you need to just tell her your keeping. In her position as a nonofficial breeder there is nothing she can do!

Mmmmcake123 · 28/12/2015 23:56

Grrrrrrrrr she is completely wrong. I am so upset by this, to think that after being unable to handle a brood and being saved by you she has the gall to still expect a profit. I'm very nonconfrontational but I would be spelling it out in no uncertain terms

hopelessadventure · 28/12/2015 23:50

To be fair if you have the pup then simply don't return it and don't pay.

PinkPjamas · 28/12/2015 23:49

No abbsismyhero. I think most if not all, of it has been word of mouth. But yes, obviously lying isn't something I would endorse but, this situation may call for it. Thanks.

OP posts:
abbsismyhero · 28/12/2015 23:47

can you prove she is selling the pups? do you have a copy of the advert? if you have proof you can report her

if you're really scared of her tell her the pup developed serious difficulties and had to be pts if she is never a guest in your home she will never know and im sure your friend will keep her mouth shut too

PinkPjamas · 28/12/2015 23:46

Thanks, everyone who has replied. Anchor trust me I completely agree with you. But an animal who I was asked to help with, I just couldn't let her die knowing I could do something about it Sad .

DirectorFury · 28/12/2015 23:43

X-posted, just seen she's on benefits. Definitely get onto HMRC asap, and maybe give them some helpful pointers about where the pups are advertised Wink.

DirectorFury · 28/12/2015 23:42

I bet BSB isn't declaring earnings to HMRC and therefore isn't paying tax on them.

I'd be tempted to mention this to her while refusing to pay for the pup (she should pay you, tbh!).

And then report the fucker anyway in a few weeks. Can't stand people who just see animals as a way to make money Angry.
