I did think Giles Coren was more famous, but anyway, the dad association is more pertinent. She probably spent years feeling like the family name was a millstone around her neck, while wondering whether she would have been successful without it. My point is that David Mitchell is a 'Mitchell' and Alan Coren was a 'Coren' but only Victoria is a 'Coren Mitchell'. That's her name.
Might be talking bollocks though.

Victoria Coren wasn't kept in the shade by her brother and father. David Coren- Mitchell would distinguish her husband from the (far more talented) novelist.

Have to disagree with you there: or at least it's a sad state of affairs if she feels she has her 'own' name by adding on someone else's. I would feel differently if David were calling himself Coren Mitchell too!

But I am giving too much away here: I am straight but I just cannot believe how lucky the perfectly average but otherwise unprepossessing David Mitchell has got in lurve!!! Or to put it more charitably, there is probably a lot more too him than meets the eye if La Coren likes him!

I was at uni with cherry healey & she was lovely, always stuck out as someone who would succeed in some kind of tv work she was very endearing & funny

I really am glad I'm not a woman in the media. Can't believe that people can be so personal over a chosen name or hairstyle! I felt bad for her when was on 8 Out of 10 Cats and people were tweeting her for having shit hair… Do people tweet Sean Lock et al. about their hair? It's shallow and reductive to distil a woman's appeal down to her appearance.

As irritating as she is, she is a symptom not a cause of the sexism in the TV industry where women are hired on the basis of looks not talent. Her looks and her lifestyle are the sole reason she is on TV in the first place.

Ask yourself this, would an ordinary looking woman with a paper thin CV like Dawn Porter, Cherry Healey or Stacey Dooley be hired to front lifestyle documentaries on major TV channels?

Every hour of TV filled with guff like Dawn Porter pretending to be a lesbian for a bit is an hour where proper female journalists and filmmakers with stellar CVs and years of graft behind them making prorammes about important stuff aren't getting on air.

In about 10 years time Dawn Porter will be moaning about wanting to be taken seriously as a documentary film maker and it being hard for women over 40 in the media when she is booted out for someone younger and perkier. But neglecting to mention she was happy to be hired on the basis of her looks in the first place when other worthier but less conventionally attractive women were passed over.

Ohmy it's true I'm afraid. Her real hair is quite thin (but still radiant red!)
