Weight management is a hugely personal journey, and one that many women - particularly mothers - navigate alongside the demands of everyday life. For some, prescription weight loss treatments are a medical route that can help support long-term health and wellbeing goals.

Since January 2025, medicated weight loss treatments like Wegovy (which is the same medication as Ozempic that's approved for weight management in the UK) and Mounjaro have been mentioned more than 49,000 times on our Talk boards. In terms of providers, MedExpress has had over 11,000 mentions alone.* So, it’s clear that many users are exploring whether weight loss treatments could be the right choice for them.

But what do you need to know before taking the plunge? And how does MedExpress stack up?

Note: Weight loss injections are prescription-only and may not be suitable for everyone. Always consult a healthcare professional before starting treatment.

Mumsnet users and weight loss injections

Since January 2024 to date, MedExpress has the largest share of Mumsnet discussions around WLIs.** Over 80% of comments are positive - especially regarding quick delivery times, reliable customer service and good experiences with weight management results while using MedExpress.

In a Mumsnet poll of 1,172 users in February 2025:

  • 60% of women said they want to lose weight

  • 19% are currently using WLIs

  • 20% are considering them

  • 6% have used them in the past

Among those considering or using them, common concerns include ease of access, affordability and trust in the provider - particularly for time-stretched women juggling work, family and life admin.

Beyond these, wider research also reflects the emotional and physical motivations behind trying GLP-1 treatments. According to a 2024 study, half of Brits using GLP-1s reported facing weight-based stigma before starting treatment - a reminder of the social pressures many women experience around weight.

What Mumsnet users say about WLIs

“After many years or many diets, despite the claims of ‘you won’t feel deprived’ I had resigned myself to being overweight, getting more overweight and anything that comes with this [...] A week into [...] Medexpress and I realised my food preoccupation had stopped. I could absolutely tell when I was getting full - and act on it! The urges for takeaway, if they do appear, die down without effort, and whatever I eat is in much smaller portions [...] All of this combined has led to weight loss [...] and I feel more energetic so [I] am moving more and I feel good!” IToldYouSoSee

“[...] First time in my life I haven't had food noise or the urge to overeat. I feel I eat a lot healthier now also and drink more water. I'm aiming for a total lifestyle change so it's sustainable. There are also so many support groups out there for people going through your experience, which is ace.” ladyluck13

“I'm on MedExpress after weeks of research and reading the inspiring threads on MN, so I went into this with my eyes wide open, I learned how to take my weekly [treatments], what food noise is, and how losing weight can be so much easier without food noise thoughts in my head, I can eat one sweet from a box - rather than eating the full box in a day - the list goes on. If you can afford, I would say absolutely yes - it's a health game changer.” DinkyDaffodil

What Mumsnet users say about MedExpress

Mumsnet users who have tried MedExpress highlight a range of experiences, and some of the most frequently mentioned themes include:

1. Ease of use

“Brilliant. I'm with Medexpress and have found them fab.” LastTimeLosingIt

“I am [with] Medexpress too. Website says mine dispatched at 5pm, and tracking says it should arrive tomorrow. I ordered last night and have to give extra information this morning. So very fast.” Bellyblueboy

2. Discreet and fast delivery

“I am expecting my first delivery today! Started the process with MedExpress on 4th June. I had some backwards and forwards about the photograph but we resolved that yesterday (by 2:40pm) and they sent through the delivery tracking details about an hour later. Very efficient!” SirHectorDoolittle

"Good luck! I’ve been really happy with MedExpress, they usually deliver [the] next day but I’ve seen a few taking up to a week at the moment. It’s been life changing for me. Loads of support threads on here too if you want to join others starting. I found them very useful.” GloriaHotcakes

“I had ordered mine on Saturday morning and had it on Monday afternoon. I haven’t had any issues with MedExpress.” fourapples

3. Quality of service

“I have not had any problems with MedExpress. [I’ve] only had to email them once and they replied.” lovealongbath

“I've been with MedExpress since starting [...] last October. Ordered my latest pen from them yesterday. Royal Mail delivered it today. The only photo I've been asked for was the one when I made my initial purchase at the start. I've been on 12.5mg for the last four months and never had any problems ordering or receiving from them.” BrownJenkins

Weight loss injections should be one part of an overall weight management plan

Are there any common complaints mentioned in MedExpress reviews?

Based on over 18 months of user discussions on our Talk boards, it's clear that users rate MedExpress for the company's fast delivery, competitive pricing and how effective treatment has been for them so far.

However, there are areas for improvement. Common complaints about MedExpress on the boards include delivery problems, slow responses to queries and a lack of personalised support when complications arise.

Add to that the recent hike in Mounjaro and many customers are even more heavily reliant on discount codes to make treatments affordable.

How do weight loss injections work?

WLIs contain drugs known as GLP-1 agonists. These mimic a natural hormone in your body: glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1), making you feel full when you’ve eaten and reducing your appetite by influencing the reward centre in the brain.

In turn, this helps to manage your blood sugar levels. WLIs also target hunger and craving centres in your brain, helping to reduce “food noise”, leaving you satiated and reducing your appetite.

What are the side effects of weight loss injections?

Like all prescription medications, weight loss injections may cause side effects. These can include constipation, nausea, diarrhoea, headaches and changes in what you may or may not like but experiences vary.

According to GP and certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician Dr Selina Gray: “Weight loss injections should be one part of a broader, long-term plan that includes healthy eating, physical activity and behavioural support.

“They can help kick-start weight loss but sustained results depend on lasting lifestyle changes and regular medical follow-up to monitor progress, side effects, adjust treatment and prevent weight regain.”

Can you be on weight loss injections long-term?

According to GP and certified Lifestyle Medicine Physician Dr Selina Gray: “Weight loss injections should be one part of a broader, long-term plan that includes healthy eating, physical activity and behavioural support.

“They can help kick-start weight loss but sustained results depend on lasting lifestyle changes and regular medical follow-up to monitor progress, side effects, adjust treatment and prevent weight regain.”

How to buy weight loss injections safely

If you’re wondering where to start, it’s essential to go through a registered clinic. As Dr Selina advises, make sure you check that any provider is registered with appropriate UK regulatory bodies and that they offer follow-up care. Patients should “avoid providers that offer medication without a proper health assessment,” she shares.

“Patients should check that the provider is registered with relevant regulatory bodies e.g. CQC in the UK and that prescribing clinicians are licensed with the appropriate medical council e.g. GMC for doctors.

“Look for transparent information about the treatment process, data privacy policies and availability of follow-up care.”

MedExpress offers a fully online service, with the option for non-prescription and prescription weight loss treatments to support your journey. They offer a convenient way to order prescription medication online with clinical consultations, photo and ID verification checks through a licensed UK pharmacy - ensuring safe and appropriate treatments are delivered fast and discreetly.

The service is designed to support users through every step, with help from eligibility, clinical consultations to find the right treatment, and discreet delivery to offer a simple option to get the treatment you need with less wait times.

Are weight loss injections right for you?

Before you decide to try WLIs like Wegovy or Mounjaro, there are a few things to consider:

  • Are you eligible following medical screening?

  • Could injections support your broader health goals (eg PCOS, postnatal weight gain)?

  • Are you pregnant or breastfeeding? WLIs are not recommended in these cases

  • Can you commit to making long-term lifestyle changes alongside the medication?

  • Do you need emotional or nutritional support too?

Dr Selina also adds: “I would advise women to first consult their regular healthcare provider to ensure weight loss injections are appropriate for their individual health needs and conditions like PCOS, perimenopause or postnatal changes.

“Hormonal shifts at each stage require a personalised treatment approach. It’s important to combine injections with lifestyle modifications which will vary at different stages of a woman’s life and this needs careful consideration and close follow up.”

If you’re unsure about any of the above, speak to your GP or a qualified health professional before starting any treatment.

Important: Ozempic is the same drug as Wegovy - semaglutide - but the brand isn't licensed for weight management in the UK.

How does MedExpress compare to other online pharmacies based on customer reviews?

MedExpress generally maintains a positive if somewhat mixed reputation on Mumsnet. The company's main advantages include speedy delivery, an emphasis on promotional discount codes and reasonably competitive pricing - especially appealing to those seeking ongoing weight loss medication given the recent Mounjaro price hikes.

On the flip side, customer service inconsistency and evolving referral policies lead some Mumsnet users to explore alternative providers:

  • ZAVA, Numan, Voy, and Simple Online Pharmacy are frequently suggested.

  • Some find Bolt Pharmacy cheaper or recommend alternatives like Cloud Pharmacy.
