Civil service reserve list?

Hello,

I had a job interview with the civil service last week. They emailed me this morning saying that I've passed the interview, but I'm on the reserve list?

Does anyone have experience of this? Did you get a job?

When I’m recruiting I can set the pass mark so the reserve list is for the candidates who aren’t my top scorer (they get the role) but that I can see being an asset to the organisation.

Sometimes I’ve been asked by another team to look out for someone for their vacancy too - if I find someone, they are put on reserve as an admin thing and then made an offer separately. My department recruits heavily from reserve lists so it’s not uncommon to get an offer for a different job. I have also had situations where I had one vacancy and two fantastic candidates, so I’ve offered the role to the top scorer and gone away to essentially create another vacancy for the other person so as not to lose someone so great for the role.

What was the role you applied for? If it was a single role you’re less likely to get an offer than if it was a bulk recruitment with multiple roles on offer. With bulks sometimes they just stick everyone on a reserve list and then allocate roles later on, I’ve got a job in that way.

Did you get any updates@StickyToffeeHobNob. I received an email last week stating that I'm on reserve list.

Hi

Im on reserve list too for leeds. I scored 15 in interview. Is that any good? Just wandering if that's a good score or not. Should i keep my hopes up to be called for the job or not

Usually you will have passed the board but others scored higher. If they don't take up the offer then they may come to you. Also a reserve list may have a period of time (such as 6 months) that allows them to just offer you a post return than having to recruit all over again.

Totally varies by department and how good they are at actually sharing and monitoring reserve lists. Sometimes they are department wide, other times a recruiting manager keep holds of the list for their own future needs. They are usually held for 12 months. You have to offer in order of the reserve list in my department, so I would ask where on the list you are too. Keep applying though - well done for hitting the level required. It's an employee's market right now so if their preferred candidates don't accept you may get an job offer

All the best, out of intrigue, department 5/6 ? Or different area of the civil service ?

I am reverse list and after a months been on it, they have emailed me to say that a vacancy has come up and asked if I was interested. I responded that I was interested in the position and asked to progress formally but after 2 days they contacted me again and said that due to changing commitments across the team they have withdrawn the vacancy. I was so disappointed.

The reserve list is golden in my department, and we will always look to utilise candidates on the list rather than having to go back out to recruit if possible.

Hi all,

I am wondering whether you have any experience with reserve lists at DCMS. I was put on a reserve list for 6 months. I wonder why the duration is 6 months instead of 12 which seems to be the standard.

Also is DCMS a good department to work for? I was reading on Glassdoor conflicting reviews. I have a feeling people are trying to avoid the digital jobs there and are predominantly attracted by the arts, youth and sports roles.

Thanks

Hi, is it true that for large campaigns everyone who gets the required score and above gets put on the reserve list and the jobs are allocated from there?

I was part of a large campaign and offered position without going on reserve list. I start today!
