Don't know how true this story is but wonder if the public reaction to stuff like this will become more common.

Yep, it's true. And it's cheating.

Those women will probably be punished for it. Sad

I certainly hope so!

Good for them for protesting. It’s not fair

Lia is noticeably taller and broader than the other swimmers. They had no chance

I'm a man. Plenty of women are taller and broader than me. I have no doubts that these women could swim faster than me. Biology is pretty diverse and there are extremes at both ends of the male and female bell curves.

There are also lots of men who are taller and broader than me. Should I have my own category in sports so I don't have to compete against tall men? What about basketball?

@greasyshoes

It isn't about the average person. Of course there are unfit men, obese men, non swimmer men etc who could all be easily beat in a swim race by a woman. However when you take athletes - who are all at their fittest and training hard - the men are leagues beyond the best of the women, in pretty much every sport. Often high school teen boys can swim or run similar times to women's world and Olympic records.

Lia has been able to easily beat her competitors who are Olympic medalists without even trying or giving a best effort. Her splits show she slows down to avoid getting too far ahead. They are just on different playing fields.

Of course there are individual biological advantages within a biological sex. Michael Phelps also had an advantage against most male athletic swimmers - but he is an anomaly. However pretty much all trans women who are athletes will beat biological female athletes. It isn't an anomaly at all. Just the reality of being biologically male.

Statistically if trans women are .5% of all athletes, they should win .5% of the time. However in most sports, the transwomen immediately rise to the top and break the records and win the events.

Are you suggesting that men are stronger than women?

@greasyshoes

I am not suggesting. That is just biological fact. Look at every record or qualifying time / weight in every sport and you will see that yes, men are stronger than women.

Of course every individual man is not stronger than every individual women but when comparing apples to apples (competitive athletes) then yes men are stronger than women. It would even take quite a high degree of fitness for a woman to be stronger than an unfit man.

In what arena or context are men not stronger than women?

To promote women's participation in sport.

There's another thread running about it here

Where all the reasons why this is wrong (and why you're wrong @greasyshoes) are very well explained.

Of course as a group men are stronger than women.

On average men have 10kg more skeletal mass, 40 per cent more upper body strength and 33 per cent more lower body strength than women.

If women had the above, they would also need to be larger with bigger bones to support the extra muscle mass.

It's not a vague suggestion it's a statement of fact. Me and DH are about the same height, weight and do the same amount of exercise. There is no doubt for either of us that he is physically significantly stronger.

A man smaller than me would be able to really hurt me in a physical fight, would be able to overpower me in an attack. It is a fact of our biology and one of the many reasons why women in general are wary of men they don't know.

How the fuck have we got to a point where someone can in all seriousness seem shocked that men are stronger than women.

greasy might be trolling, but it isn’t an unusual stance.

I honestly think some people are so simplistic in their thinking "women are just as good as men" they actually think there are no physical differences

It's not a value judgement to say men are faster, stronger snd bigger on average than us. The existence of tall women and short men doesn't change this.

Oh look, another man dismissing women because he thinks men's special feelings matter more than fair competition for females.

Most 13 year old boys have greater arm strength than most women.
Even small, skinny weaker men will naturally be stronger than most women.

Teen boys football team beat the top women's team.

Stop pretending that you think women as a sex class are just as strong as men as a sex class because we all know that is bullshit.

Lol at you thinking men should be allowed to take women's places, medals and prize money because female Olympic level swimmers could beat YOU in a race.

No-one is suggesting that men are stronger than women.

We are SAYING CATERGORICALLY that men are stronger than women.
Seriously, does anyone even believe otherwise?
Yes, there are exceptions to every rule. There are short men, thin men, weak men, overweight men, who might all be "weaker" than a woman.
But on the whole, across the board, pick your cliche, men are stronger, faster, taller, heavier, and bigger then women.

Every five year old knows this but apparently we need to explain to grown adults in the year 2022.
That's why a mediocre man competing in his OWN sex class suddenly out runs / out swims / out lifts / out jumps a top level natal woman when he decides to compete in a sex class he does NOT belong in.

You know.......biology and all that.

Oh, and have a look at the top times / weight lifted / speed achieved / height jumped / javelin thrown etc in ALL OF HISTORY.

What sex class achieved the greatest results?
Why was that?

Sadly, I think films and media that show 'kick ass' women fighting with men have misled a lot of people to think that it can actually be like that. Unfortunately Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Captain Marvel aren't real.

Dd was horrified at my sexism when I made an observation about men being stronger than women. (I think I'd asked my husband to open a jam jar for me or something.) I had to gently explain that equality doesn't mean pretending we're the same. Are girls really going out into the world thinking they can enter into a physical fight or compete physically with men? If so, we're doing them a terrible disservice. It might explain how many girls seem to support inclusion of trans women in women's sports. Presumably they just think all the women athletes of the past just haven't been trying as hard as the men...
