I have heard from WEP insiders that Sophie is fully gender critical so this can't be a good move for feminism and the party Sad

Oh no. I saw the showdown at the WP UK meeting a year ago between her and Heather Brunskell Evans and she looked like a broken woman. I couldn't understand what was going on with her but I admired her courage for showing up to such a hostile environment.

Wrybread · 22/01/2019 08:17

Do you think she'd consider doing up a GC party?

adultFemaleElf · 22/01/2019 08:18

Maybe now she will say what she really thinks.
I certainly hope so.
I was also at that meeting and she looked tortured.

Wrybread · 22/01/2019 08:19

Setting up....grr autocorrect

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 22/01/2019 08:21

Here's a link to the tweet & her statement: twitter.com/sophierunning/status/1087616248098291712?s=21.

What stood out for me is that in her list of under-represented groups of women (BAME, disabled, working-class) she stuck to actual women. No reference to trans.

Floisme · 22/01/2019 08:31

I’m sorry to hear that. Like many women on here I’ve given her a hard time but, to her credit, she always seemed prepared to listen and challenge her own views. They’ve completely done a number on her and I wish her well.

I wonder whether that old joke about a man taking over the feminist party is about to come true.

deepwatersolo · 22/01/2019 08:45

It very much looks like a small handful of ejaculators have hijacked the women's party, the WEP, even though, no matter what your definition of women is (if you actually can muster one), generally, women are not ejaculators. A shame, really.

teawamutu · 22/01/2019 08:48

Anyone want to bet a tenner that the next leader will be trans?

IrenetheQuaint · 22/01/2019 08:50

Poor Sophie - that statement sounds she feels really battered by the whole experience. After a weak start I have come to really admire her over the last couple of years.

AnyOldPrion · 22/01/2019 08:54

The next step will be interesting. Will one of the minorities Sophie mentions step forward? And if a trans candidate stands, will that be popular, or will women assert themselves in their own party and make their feelings clear despite the bullying.

Popchyk · 22/01/2019 09:27

She took a couple of months off recently, didn't she? I'm guessing that she's had to re-evaluate her life and this is the result. Don't blame her one bit.

Join us on here, Sophie.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/01/2019 09:27

Oh yes, what happens next will be very interesting indeed

I have limited sympathy for Sophie. It seems to me that she has been complicit in pissing away what could have been something really constructive for women

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/01/2019 09:28

I struggle with liking sandi toksvig for the same reason

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/01/2019 09:43

I was going to ask, did Sandi have to leave WEP when she got the QI gig?

nettie434 · 22/01/2019 09:48

What stood out for me is her is list of under represented women
Absolutely Empress. Always found her more sympathetic than either Sandy T or Catherine Walker. I’d love to be a fly on the wall if Sophie and Caroline Lucas ever had a convo about what it’s like being one of two leaders when you are being lobbied by activists

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 22/01/2019 10:08

No, Sandi left the News Quiz when she joined WEP. She's still in WEP and QI.

WeRiseUp · 22/01/2019 10:20

Well. It looks like all of the gender critical women who are ejected/hounded out of politics by ejaculators and their handmaidens (fluffers? Wink Sorry Blush) are growing in number - I think an actual women's party and trade union might actually be a thing since there's no current place for all that political acumen and will to go....

Dragon3 · 22/01/2019 10:24

She seems to have listened and changed her mind, which I respect. I don't blame her for getting it wrong in the first place. Many of us are in the same boat, TBH.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/01/2019 10:35

I suppose so Dragon3

Watching the political party she led being subverted, manipulated and misdirected was probably quite educational

MrsFogi · 22/01/2019 10:37

My money is on the next leader having XY chromosomes.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 22/01/2019 10:42

I don’t think it will go that far MrsFogi, not if the TRAs have got any sense. But I think the next leader will be heavily advised by someone with XY chromosomes

nauticant · 22/01/2019 10:45

MrsFogi, I'm always reminded of this:

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/01/2019 10:53

Anyone want to bet a tenner that the next leader will be trans?

I would not bet against...

Floisme · 22/01/2019 11:04

On reflection I don’t think it’ll go that far either, at least not this time. But I can certainly picture a transwoman standing and the other candidates being too woke, or not having the nerve to point out the elephant in the room.

nauticant · 22/01/2019 11:07

Unless it has it's trunk on display.
