West Yorkshire Police (Diversity Unit) applaud the Guides for standing up for Trans Rights

"Without fear or favour", the police are supposed to NOT involve themselves in politics.

And this is politics, make no mistake - designed to lobby for Trans Rights and impact on women.

The Chief Constable may recall Savile, or the Grooming Gangs. She or he may have heard of Stephen White, but I don't expect they'll be aware that a barn-pot is spouting loaded political messages in the force's name.

Bang out of order and incompatible with the role of the police.

300 posts on that thread now.

And every one of them ripping into WYP.

Kyanite · 26/09/2018 21:14

The police get involved in the badger culls too, to help those doing the killing, when they shouldn't. Same with fox hunting.

This is such a disgrace. Wanting to have reports of non-crimes when other forces don't have the capacity to deal with all the real crimes.

lydiamajora · 26/09/2018 21:19

Ooof, over 300 comments now vs 17 likes and 20 retweets. Twitter is not impressed. And I am at least happy to see that, while there are a few "Cultural marxism!!!" comments, the majority of responses are variations on "What about supporting girls and their rights and safety? Do they not matter?"

AngryAttackKittens · 26/09/2018 22:11

Can someone explain to me why Guides policy would be any business of West Yorkshire Police?

I still want to know what's going on up there. So much concentrated wrongness in one small region.

With every word and every action, they make Red Riding utterly believable

Yep.

Private Eye is very topical this week.

The "Don't Be Hurtful" campaign receives its official launch with the dispatch of a Press Release to the Neasden Herald. All Hurtful language may now be policed as a "hate incident" and the public are encouraged to report anything that they feel may be a crime, even if it isn't, so future incidents of hurtfulness can be treated with extreme force.

Tweet replies really need to copy in

The Chief Constable, Dee Collins (yes, a woman)

Otherwise, the responses are only seen by some woke bloke in a little cellar in Wakefield.

It's all very fishy. Very fishy.

Remember Peter Sutcliffe?

From the link:

West Yorkshire Police were criticised for the time taken in apprehending Sutcliffe despite interviewing him nine times during the murder hunt. Because of the sensational nature of the case, the police handled an exceptional amount of information, some of it misleading, including a hoax recorded message and letters purporting to be from the "Ripper" but the 1982 Byford Report of the official inquiry (made public in 2006) confirmed the validity of the criticism.

GulagMilkMonitor That article. I’m dumbfounded with horror.

They admitted kidnapping and rape and got away with it because they mistook their victims for prostitutes?

Setting aside for a moment that it’s not ok to rape prostitutes either, how is mistaken identity a valid excuse for rape? Why don’t men have a legal obligation to get consent for sex? Just assuming they have consent is somehow enough for legal exculpation?

I’m scared. With this and that Guardian article today about rape victims having to turn over all their phone records and medical notes. What’s happening?

ZuttZeVootEeVro · 26/09/2018 22:39

I don't understand either. Buy I don't know how many other safeguilding policies they comment on. I noticed that they retweeted stonewall's guide to completing the GRA consultation though.

teaandtoast · 26/09/2018 22:46

This is useful. I'm househunting at the moment.

AngryAttackKittens · 26/09/2018 22:54

I swear Red Riding was a bloody documentary.

SleepFreeZone · 26/09/2018 23:00

I agree that it’s gratifying to see so many angry responses to their ridiculous tweet. People are finally waking up!!

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 26/09/2018 23:10

The same twitter account retweeted Stonewall's GRA consultation handy web form on both the 29th August and the 2nd of September which surely must be in breech of some guideline or another.

Too right it is.

The police have a code of conduct. Breeches of the code result either in complaints from the public or internal sanctions. The code outlaws getting involved in political matters, where the police's impartiality could be questioned.

Just clicked on link to Dee and found this video. Bi-visibility day - everyone should be able to be themselves at work. Good Lord.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/09/2018 01:10

You know, I've worked in the kind of environment where everyone feels free to bring their whole selves to work (fetishes, endless discussion of sex lives, couples openly fighting and trying to get coworkers involved on one side or the other). It was shit. Even as a twenty-something it was just annoying, can't even imagine how little patience I'd have for it now.

Coyoacan · 27/09/2018 03:27

GulagMilkMonitor That article. I’m dumbfounded with horror

Absolutely. So it is ok to kidnapped and rape prostitutes or anyone who resembles a prostitute, i.e. a woman?

2BorNot2Bvocal · 27/09/2018 09:26

Stunned by this. This is WYP directing how the public should respond to a government consultation by pointing them at the political lobbying group who have the most vested interest. "Our handy web form has all the info and guidance you'll need to #ComeOutForTransEquality in the consultation,..."

theOtherPamAyres · 27/09/2018 23:02

They are getting a drubbing on Twitter

There have been over 700 comments so far. A handful are supportive but 99.9% disagree that the Guides ought to be applauded.

In comparison, the GG "statement" tweet got HALF that number of comments.

In other words the West Yorkshire Police have managed to extend coverage of the issue and peak trans a helluva lot of uninvolved but concerned people.

OP posts:
ToeToToe · 27/09/2018 23:46

I always think of Red Riding too. So disturbing - and we fucking know it goes on. We all know it. It's going on now.

Yep, the police should be tweeting on political issues. Absolutely not.

And the WYP should absolutely not be tweeting on any subject connected to the safeguarding of girls - not judging by their past history of completely failing to protect women and girls - in the Saville case, grooming gangs etc. Fucking outrageous.

Funny how police are reported to be really struggling in the face of cuts, announcing they don't pursue/investigate burglaries, online child sex abuse viewers, amongst other things - but have a seemingly endless supply of resources when it comes to tweeting about diversity, paying Mermaids to come & talk to them about trans issues, painting police cars rainbow colours, interviewing women who tweet facts... isn't it?

ToeToToe · 27/09/2018 23:48

*should not be...

(obviously.)

AngryAttackKittens · 28/09/2018 00:02

Are the West Yorkshire Police now a wholly owned subsidiary of Mermaids?

partystress · 28/09/2018 01:36

How the actual is this allowed? Public servants, paid to enforce the law, urging people to campaign to change the law in a way that endangers genuinely vulnerable groups? It's so brazenly wrong I'm almost speechless. They must feel invincible. Aimee, Natacha, Harrow - no hint of remorse, no embarrassment. Just the same victim bull over and over again. And I want rainbows back.

partystress · 29/09/2018 17:47

As I appear to have killed this thread, I'm going to bump it because the more I think about it the more angry I get. I am going to email the WY police and crime commissioner because even though I don't live there, I have nieces at uni there and now feel very concerned about the treatment they might get if they ever need to report a sex-related crime. I think also the IPCC need to know and the DCLG perhaps need to consider whether they are happy with the recent conduct of Liverpool and Leeds councils.
