Fun new game: TERF translator

Here's how to play. Find examples of people using the word 'TERF' and replace them with the true meaning of the word, which is of course: 'women who say things I don't like.'

So I'll start, here's a fine example:
"Release the hounds on this councillor Lily. Every TERF needs to be hounded out of politics and business and educated"
Xyrcoups tweet 6 May 2018

Translation:

"Release the hounds on this councillor Lily. Every woman who says things I don't like needs to be hounded out of politics and business and educated"
Xyrcoups tweet 6 May 2018

Lots of great material for this game available, doesn't need to be from twitter though there's plenty there.

Here's another one.

Owen Jones tweet 17 Nov 2017
"If 'TERF' [Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist] is unacceptable, let's just use 'transphobe' and 'transphobic', problem solved."

Translation:
"If women who say things I don't like is unacceptable, let's just use 'transphobe' and 'transphobic', problem solved."

Oh yes.

‘All Terfs should die in a fire’ works very well for this.

And also ‘terfs are just like nazis’.

SporadicSpartacus · 07/05/2018 08:40

‘I punch women who say things I don’t like’

Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 08:43

Excellent, excellent. TERF translator at your service:

Oh yes.

All women who say things I don't like should die in a fire

women who say things I don't like are just like nazis.

We could just make up our own sentences that are typical of TRAs? Rather than quote actual people and inflame some ongoing TRA Twitter vs FWR Mumsnet war that results in Swiss cheese threads and crossness about Swiss cheese threads?

(I know, I know - I'm a right Debbie Downer).

Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 08:45

Then tell women on twitter to stop self identifying as a women who say things I don't like .Stop the slur from those who use it to describe THEMSELVES.
(Michael Cashman tweet 17 Apr 18 10.48am)

OP posts:
Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 08:48

LangCleg I don't see why it would be a problem? We are just quoting what people have said on twitter.

OP posts:
Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 08:58

Some fine translated examples from terfisaslur.com

'Kill all women who say things I don't like'

'Women who say things I don't like get in line for a sweet, sweet pummelling'.

'Women who say things I don't like need to be eliminated off the face of the earth too.'

OP posts:
Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 09:03

To be clear the original tweet about self-identifying used the actual word TERF not the wording above. Actual tweet:

"Then tell women on twitter to stop self identifying as TERFs.Stop the slur from those who use it to describe THEMSELVES."

The version I posted above is the TERF translator version.

This report on the silencing of women who want to discuss their rights has lots of great material for this game:

fairplayforwomen.com/misogyny_hate_silencing/

Here's just one:

"Hey TERFS can you all decide one clear symbol to wear so I know when to punch you like people with Swastikas"

"Hey women who say things I don't like can you all decide one clear symbol to wear so I know when to punch you like people with Swastikas"

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 07/05/2018 09:31

"Imagine 20 people had punched women who say things I don't like. Imagine if every woman who said things I didn't like left bruised and bleeding. They would stop organising".

Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 09:36

That one is chilling Ereshkigal:

"Imagine 20 people had punched women who say things I don't like. Imagine if every woman who said things I didn't like left bruised and bleeding. They would stop organising".

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 07/05/2018 09:37

"If every time a woman who said things I don't like opened their mouth they got a fist in it they wouldn't open their fucking mouths".

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2018 09:38

That second one is on the same theme. It's worth remembering that the first one was in direct response to Speakers Corner.

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2018 09:39

I think this makes it much more stark what we're discussing here.

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2018 09:40

Doesn't the second one just sound like any violent misogynistic domestic abuser?

LaSqrrl · 07/05/2018 09:41

I like it. Take no notice of Lang, who does not seem to get that all the violent threats and tweets, just gets a bit wearing after a few years. And yes, we believe they mean those threats, they have acted upon them, it is the severity that has not had the full reveal yet in the UK (US, yes).

So TERF becomes, rather more truthfully, #WWSTIDL. We should flood twitter and hashtag that.

Just really strange how radical feminists and GC women do not daily tweet for TRAs to DAIF. Gee, what is up with that? Should we be aiming for that? Is that what 'equality' looks like, to become just as violent as males? And no, I don't care if those males wear a frock, they still are acting like every other violent male. Thanks, no thanks, we shall stick with just telling the truth, without the violent death threats. Someone might listen someday?

Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 09:48

So TERF becomes, rather more truthfully, #WWSTIDL. We should flood twitter and hashtag that.

Flooding twitter with translations when someone uses the word TERF is a great idea.

It would need the full phrase to sink in properly and make the point to other tweeters/politicians etc.

For maximum effect, quote tweet the original, then write: Translation...
and repeat the tweet with 'women who say things I don't like' in place of TERF.

A lot of the discourse in this debate is a coded way of excusing violence and threats. When you unpick it it's really shocking. This translated example from Ereshkigal is still really shocking me:

That one is chilling Ereshkigal:

"Imagine 20 people had punched women who say things I don't like. Imagine if every woman who said things I didn't like left bruised and bleeding. They would stop organising".

New one from twitter:

"TERF isn’t a slur. Nazi isn’t a slur. Neoliberal isn’t a slur. Slurs are terms used to silence people for something that they dont have power over really. You make a choice to be one of these."

Translation:

women who say things I don't like isn’t a slur. Nazi isn’t a slur. Neoliberal isn’t a slur. Slurs are terms used to silence people for something that they dont have power over really. You make a choice to be one of these.

From scrolling through
Twitter, a variety:

"harry potter stopped belonging to jk rowling as soon as she outed herself as a woman who says things I don't like."

"You are not a feminist if you’re a woman who says things I don't like sorry I don’t make the rules"

"Wow. I thought MRAs and Nazis and Republicans were the most fragile people on the planet, but women who say things I don't like are on a whole other level"

"WOMEN WHO SAY THINGS I DON'T LIKE ARENT WELCOME IN LESBIAN SPACES"

"Yes all women who say things I don't like are scum"

"No one can genuinely expect a modern communist country to have Soviet styled gulags. .....except for women who say things I don't like, women who say things I don't like get the gulag."

"the sun is shining and we're approaching june, which means it's a great time for women who say things I don't like, twerfs and other scum to remember that they don't belong at pride, they belong in a hole somewhere out of sight :)"

"• WOMEN WHO SAY THINGS I DON'T LIKE ARE A GENUINE THREAT TO TRANS LIVES
• HATING WOMEN WHO SAY THINGS I DON'T LIKE SHOULDN’T BE CONTROVERSIAL
• IT’S OK TO PUNCH WOMEN WHO SAY THINGS I DON'T LIKE IN SELF-DEFENCE"

Wanderabout · 07/05/2018 10:46

Nice crop, Material

Telling:
""You are not a feminist if you’re a woman who says things I don't like sorry I don’t make the rules"

(Who does make the rules btw?)

Chilling:

"No one can genuinely expect a modern communist country to have Soviet styled gulags. .....except for women who say things I don't like, women who say things I don't like get the gulag."

OP posts:
MaterialReality · 07/05/2018 10:54

Also, not from Twitter, but from a left-wing male acquaintance during a general discussion of feminism (trans issues hadn't been mentioned):

"I'm a feminist ally. I support all women except women who say things I don't like."

(I did reveal that I was in fact one of those women, and fortunately got nothing more in reply than something like 'well everyone's entitled to their opinion'. I was prepared for much worse. It seemed almost like he was just saying it because it was the 'right' thing to say.)

SirVixofVixHall · 07/05/2018 12:10

Really is chilling reading these. This should be read out in parliament, might wake up a few MPs to the violent misogyny.

Tinkletinklelittlebat · 07/05/2018 12:27

Ah but remember, when called on this the explanation was that people should realise it was only 'hyperbole' and not meant to be taken literally.
So death threats, extreme violence and sociopathy just harmless bantz, no biggie Smile

Comments like 'bless' and biological facts are just utterly evil hate speech however that should be immediately eradicated and the police dispatched.

You'd have to be out of your tree not to see the extreme double standards trying to be applied and how utterly nuts it is.
