I love the lineup for this meeting, wish I could go! Hope it goes well.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 10/05/2018 22:41

oh I really want to go, but I can't like, I'm a bit nervous about any transactivist protests.. although I guess that is what they want, to put people off.

ReluctantCamper · 11/05/2018 09:30

Rita, I'm not sure if Basingstoke will have protesters, as it's not a uni town it may not have the sort of groups that can mobilise to do it.

Honestly the protesters at Oxford weren't scary, they were just loud.

If you'd like to meet up in advance and walk in together I am very happy to do that.

I can't go Sad but for the London one, we picked a fairly central pub to meet in an hour or two before the start & then all went on together from there.

It really helped!

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 11/05/2018 13:12

You’re right. Basingstoke isn’t exactly known for its revolutionary protests!

Ok I’ll go. Smile and meeting up before sounds like an excellent idea.

DebbieInBirmingham · 11/05/2018 19:21

I really hope that people aren't put off by the prospect of protesters. It looks like being a great meeting. I am so looking forward to seeing Cátia and Hannah again along with others who I've met at previous meetings. Would be lovely to meet new people as well.

CockOffPostmanPat · 11/05/2018 21:02

It's fairly local to me so I've bought a ticket. I'm not sure dh will be home in time for me to attend but I'll do my best.

I'm a bit nervous about protestors too.

Sunkisses · 11/05/2018 21:15

I'm definitely going. I'd be happy to meet up @IfyouseeRitaMoreno and go in together

Goldenbug · 11/05/2018 21:55

You’re right. Basingstoke isn’t exactly known for its revolutionary protests! - It should be! 1880s. In one event 3000 rioters out of a population of under 7000, taking on the Salvation Army!!

Rita I felt exactly the same about the event I want to but honestly the protestors were pathetic. Just students. Do go, I'm so glad I went, it was really informative and heart warming.

Ha ha ha. Having worked there I can categorically say it has become a great big damp squib and I would be surprised to see more than 2 protesters.

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 12/05/2018 11:16

Hello, Basingstoke attendee here. I’ve never been to one of these meetings before and am really looking forward to it. One concern is about how I’ll find out where it will take place and when as I might have to book a room.

I’ll be coming alone, so “hello” to any others who will be doing the same.

ReluctantCamper · 12/05/2018 11:43

Hi Bitter, at the Oxford one, Women's place sent out an email on the day of the event, late morning I think.

The Oxford meeting finished pretty promptly at 9pm, so if you're worried about last trains you should be OK.

I think I will try and go too, feel a bit nervous though.

bottleblue · 12/05/2018 22:39

Just joined MN - been reading for a while and had a couple of false starts. (get triggered easily). rejoined now as have just bought a ticket to this. Am also feeling nervous but I really want to feel like I'm doing something!! Look forward to seeing some of you there. I'll be on my own, so thought i'd say hello here to build confidence..

LightofaSilveryMoon · 12/05/2018 23:02

I went to the Cardiff meeting on my own, and I'm so very glad I made the effort.

There were difficulties (no protesters that I saw, but the original venue cancelled at short notice, necessitating another venue at short notice, and wonderful people with cars ferrying people from the first venue to the second! And lots of spontaneous conversations among strangers during those car ferryings, around, "WTF?! In 2018?! Pressure is put on venues to prevent them from hosting women talking about women's rights??!! WTF???!!!!")

There was such an atmosphere of solidarity about women's rights, and the speakers were inspiring! A very invigorating evening.

bottleblue · 12/05/2018 23:11

Thanks Light that's exactly what i wanted to hear! must say i've only heard good things, and it'll do me very good to hear from real live people.

bottleblue · 12/05/2018 23:12

I will sweep the dog mud out of my car in case!

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 16/05/2018 20:26

Should we have some Mumsnet sign to show who we are? A secret handshake perhaps Grin

ReluctantCamper · 16/05/2018 22:00

Really looking forward to tomorrow and to seeing you all there!

I'm also looking forward to tomorrow evening.

I just hope the venue isn't too difficult to find as my sense of direction is awful Grin

Pratchet · 17/05/2018 08:50

Hope it all goes well tonight. Have an amazing evening!

EmpressOfSpartacus · 17/05/2018 09:45

Good luck for tonight!

LaContessaDiPlump · 17/05/2018 10:50

I will be there tonight! Looking forward to it :)

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 17/05/2018 13:25

I'm going and will swap numbers with anyone who wants to meet up in a pub beforehand.

I expect lots of posters won't know my username. I used to be a regular poster. Sorry been AWOL for so long. I found my distress and outrage at the whole self ID business was tiring me out and I had to let it go. I'm back again and looking forward to tonight, though a little apprehensive. I have health problems that would make, for example, being trapped standing up very difficult.
