WPUK Wales meeting last week - help needed

Hi All,
As lots of you know, the Mercure Hotel were meant to host the WPUK Meeting in Wales last week, then pulled out last minute, and a primary school stepped in to host.
The primary school is now under fire from TRAs for hosting!
(I didn’t attend but saw this on a private FB group and asked if I could share.)
Details on the screenshots (all permitted by the FB OP and nothing identifying) - if anyone could send off a quick email in support, that would be much appreciated.

How bizzare, women are not considered as equal by those charmers.

If it wasn't so ridiculous it would be funny. If allowing women to meet to discuss their rights is against an equality policy (which I seriously doubt) then it needs changed!

Wonder what JHB would make of it?

This insistence that any discussion that isn't sanctioned by trans activists is by definition transphobic is ridiculous.

I have emailed the school to show my support

It is crazy. The Head of Governors allowed people (women, men, transfolk, whoever bought a ticket) to discuss how suggested changes to the law would affect them.

An extraordinary meeting is being called to investigate her allowing this. It is INSANE.

We will have to start meeting in secret soon!

I will email now.

I spoke to the lovely woman who found us alternative accommodation. So gutted that this has happened to her.

I'm going to send an email of support. Is the head Mr or Mrs Skinner?

Report

Done it.

I spoke to a man on the train afterwards who feared her action in securing our venue would call down vengeance upon her. So sad he was proved correct.

How DARE we speak with each other? Angry

I feel like a bit player in the Handmaid's Tale.

May be good to include a link to Janice Turner's article in The Times by way of context and also ensuring that she is aware... www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-activists-think-debate-is-hate-speech-hsh7vpmzt
"On Thursday the Mercure Hotel in Cardiff cancelled a longstanding booking for a meeting to be held that day by the group A Woman’s Place, on the grounds it “does not tolerate any form of racist, sexist or bigoted behaviour”. Bigoted? The speakers, including a feminist writer and a former Welsh Assembly member, were there to defend existing law. It is hardly a far-out position to uphold the 2010 Equalities Act which permits female-only exemptions for rape crisis and domestic violence refuges.

A Woman’s Place has six demands, including “respectful and evidence-based discussion” and for impact assessments on how proposed changes to the GRA, allowing natal men to self-ID as women, will affect data-gathering on crime, health and the gender pay gap. Pretty extreme stuff. This was the latest event to be cancelled after trans activists bombarded venues with intimidation and abuse. Glasgow, Lewisham, the Conway Hall . . . even Millwall FC, famed for their slogan “fear no foe”, withdrew a recent room booking after their switchboard was jammed and protests threatened. A Woman’s Place must ticket an event without revealing its location until a few hours before the start. Even then, as in Cardiff, it must secure a back-up venue. (A primary school whose governor activists are now hounding).

How does this happen? This is a complex debate but on the phone to meek receptionists and scared middle managers, trans activists keep it simple. They say: “These evil women are social conservatives who hate trans people. They’re like Tory bigots who brought in Section 28 and hated gays. They want to eradicate trans women; they incite violence against them. They deny their humanity and want them dead. Do you want your company to be part of that?”

It is ludicrous, of course. The feminists, including many lesbians, have fought for LGBT rights: without exception they believe trans people should live free from violence, indignity or discrimination. (A Woman’s Place has trans members and speakers.) Moreover gay people sought only the right to love who they wished and for that love to receive equal recognition: gay rights had no impact upon the rights of anyone else."

The person complaining has in the past retweeted some of the misleading propaganda pumped out by one of the most prolific of TRAs so it may well be that they have believed the content. To be honest, with the way that SM (especially Twitter) works, a huge number of people within the LGBT+ community have been comprehensively manipulated by a few 'activists' into believing that their very existence is in fact being threatened .
Amongst the propaganda are a great many slurs on those involved with WPUK as well as manipulated videos and screen shots.
It is really important to consider that there is a difference between those who have deliberately created 'fear and loathing' and those who have come to believe it in good faith.
The propaganda needs challenging first...

Have e-mailed. I read on-line one of the speeches given, and it was a model of common sense. No hatred or phobia anywhere that I could see. I also re-checked the WPUK website and still find it unexceptionable.

I'm not in the area but I don't know if anyone has emailed the MP Jo Stevens I think it is?

I've emailed the school.

It's madness.

poor woman, how stressful for her.

The minutes of school governors' meetings are, by the way, public unless they are "confidential."

"Confidential" obviously does not mean "we'd rather you didn't read it."
