I really want to read it!

Or even if someone can comment/summarise? Thanks

Afraid I don't know how to do share tokens. But I have read the piece.

There are photos of LM and MY at the top and the first sentence ("A leading transgender activist and Labour Party official is facing possible expulsion ...") cheered me up no end because I thought it was referring to LM! But no - it's MY in trouble over Twitter comments about LM in February.

The position as reported is that "Labour has written to Ms Y about the tweets, which could be in breach of rules that forbid 'hostility or prejudice based on age, disability, gender reassignment or identity'".

NotTerfNorCis · 07/04/2018 12:20

Miranda's tweets have been protected for ages. Does anyone know why?

SomeonesRealName · 07/04/2018 12:22

Eurgh the Labour Party disgusts me! Miranda looks stunning in the stock photo - good on you for sticking to your guns!

CisMyArse · 07/04/2018 12:25

MY keeps getting banned by the TERF hunters I think. Miranda getting whacked with a load of criticism on Twitter Sad

CisMyArse · 07/04/2018 12:31

Can't get pass the paywall unfortunately.

Lily Madigan has been skirting very close to some racist tweets and she's been called on it. As always, Miranda is getting a kicking from TRA's and those who are trying to be supportive of the trans movement without actually realising what the current movement includes.

ReappearingWoman · 07/04/2018 12:33

Thanks. - epic typo in thread title -

I'm really passed off at how MY is being treated. Hope Miranda knows how much she is appreciated by the vast numbers of women here. Thanks

A leading transgender activist and Labour Party official is facing possible expulsion after online comments that she made about the party’s first transgender women’s officer.

Miranda Yardley, 50, who was born male and underwent gender reassignment nearly ten years ago, said she had no regrets after posting four tweets in February about Lily Madigan, 20, questioning her status as a woman.

Ms Madigan, who was born male but has identified as a woman for about four years, is the first transgender person to be elected as a women’s officer in the party. She has been at the centre of a Labour Party row over the definition of male and female and what exactly constitutes “transphobia”.

Ms Yardley, an elected LGBT officer with Labour, tweeted that “Lily Madigan is still a man” and referred to Ms Madigan as “Willy Madagain”. One tweet read: “Transmisogyny is that dreadful, covetous misogyny that transgender males like Willy Madagain so willingly show towards women. Because he hates women.”

She insisted that her comments were examples of the dictionary definition of “man” and defended the play on Ms Madigan’s name as “satire”. She added: “To state that Madigan is a man is not a personal attack, nor is it bullying. As an adult human male, he is biologically and legally a man.” She added: “I don’t have a problem with Madigan per se . . . and could see it possible for a male to act as a women’s officer. However, in order to be able to fulfil that function, the women’s officer would have to listen closely to the concerns and needs of women. Madigan has shown he is unwilling to listen to women, and revealingly that he has no empathy with women.” She claimed Ms Madigan had used “dehumanising and misogynist slurs” about feminists who do not see transgender women as female.

Labour has written to Ms Yardley about the tweets, which could be in breach of rules that forbid “hostility or prejudice based on age, disability, gender reassignment or identity”.

The row comes amid government plans to change the Gender Recognition Act to make it easier for people to self-declare their gender. Ms Madigan could not be reached for comment.

Labour said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints seriously, which are investigated in line with our procedures.”

Not sure how to do tokens!!!!

Bloody hell my typing is atrocious! Pissed off, not passed off!

I can't believe Labour has tried to intimidate Miranda and they sit back and watch Madigan try to intimidate women!!

ScarletBegonias · 07/04/2018 12:40

I note LM is also asking people to send money so that she can go and speak at Hull University. And saying that she's going to have another Twitter break because it's all too upsetting ...

Sorry, X posted

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 07/04/2018 12:52

I cannot even believe LM’s tweet re black women. It’s plain racism, nothing more.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 07/04/2018 12:53

Nothing less*

Blaaady ‘ell!

PollyEthel · 07/04/2018 13:05

Presumably what LM is trying to do is show how illogical it is to fear Transwomen in changing rooms as it is based on an unfounded fear, in a way that if LM feared black women it would be unfounded. Rather than saying she does actually fear black women?

Which might be relevant apart from the fact that a fear of men is founded in a long history of male violence against women, and the push towards self ID would allow any man access to changing rooms whether or not they were actually trans.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 07/04/2018 13:09

LM's race analogy was clumsy, misguided, and based on a foundation of racism that LM refuses to accept. I am not knowledgeable enough to comment on the complexities of racism ergo, I do not make the attempt. It isn't my place. LM seems to think being trans is a "get out of jail free" card. So does Labour, it would seem.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 07/04/2018 13:13

I think using black woman as a device to make a point is racist.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 07/04/2018 13:15

The racist tweet was indefensible. LM has deleted and apologised but if nothing else it's an example of the total cluelessness which comes with privilege.

Flowers Gin Brew Cake Wine to Miranda, I hope he's OK

PollyEthel · 07/04/2018 13:20

Apologies Circle, you are right. I was looking at the tweet in a very superficial way.

NotTerfNorCis · 07/04/2018 13:25

The 'black woman' trope is often used by TRAs. I saw one last year that stayed with me. The TRA asked whether if a black woman went out with a bunch of white friends, and she decided to 'enjoy her body' by dancing on a table topless, would her friends be racist if they objected? The implication was 'yes'. Incidentally the word used was not 'black woman' but something much more old-fashioned.

I'm afraid I can't remember the site. I saw it when I first started researching trans ideology, and I found a few sites by men who in hindsight were obviously fetishists.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 07/04/2018 13:31

That’s ok. I think LM’s tweets are designed in such a way to draw you into their view point without examining what they are saying.

Who left the amazing long comment under the Times article?
