Is it bad that I'm slightly happy about this?

(Obviously, I'm not happy about people losing their jobs - except maybe Riley)

Everyday Feminism may be closing!

Well, if they had been actual feminists I might have supported them, but it's not really that surprising that endless posts whose basic theme was, 'Women, you're not putting yourself far enough last! Abase yourselves more!' has not caught the imagination of the twenty first century woman enough to make it financially viable.
Riley's disgusting lesbophobia was the last straw, though - I stand with my lesbian sisters on this and firmly believe that women have a right to define their own sexuality without being shamed for it.

Ooh.
Well I'll be following this situation. Fingers crossed!

I have just looked at the 'staff' page...... There are a lot of labels.... Some of them I don't bloody understand.

I am sure they are made up!

"We’re facing scary financial trouble that’s threatening to put a halt to our work – maybe even as soon as the end of May."

One can only hope it's that soon.

I'm hoping they shut as I'm so sick of them.

This does make me quite happy. I know I should feel sorry for people potentially losing their jobs, and I am, a bit. But when one of those people is Riley, who is peddling hateful lesbophobic nonsense, I run short on sympathy really really quickly.

It would be a good thing if they went. I half wonder if the reason so many young women are so misinformed/muddled about feminism and what it really means is that they land on sites like EF when they are first curious and disappear down the rabbit hole.

A few months ago, almost every post on their page was something to do with transactivism.

Now it seems there is only one, albeit that twat Riley.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I agree completely with your post. Their witterings were a mindfuck of 'stand up for women!' and 'women STFU!'.

I'm hoping their closure is demonstrating a temperature check and libfems are going cold on the whole centring men nonsense.

I've just spent an interesting few minutes in there. I had to leave as I only understood 1 in every 3 words. It reads like a parody.

Do these people actually believe their own biographies? And the talks, holly hell of these are 'educators' I'd say no wonder we have issues.

FedUpWithBriiiiiick · 07/05/2017 08:11

Good to hear this, hope there are no last minute fundraisers to save it Hmm

I also hope some of the younger "libfems" have come to their senses and are slowly backing away from the whole thing. Hope that no long term damage have been done in terms of govt policy etc.

Fingers crossed the trans shark has been well and truly jumped Smile

Illegitimate - y, exactly.
They were also giving feminism a bad name, giving people something to point to as proof that feminism has disappeared up its own arse.

I wonder what their business model is. Who was actually funding them when they were doing better?
And why have they pulled out now and is it anything to do with Riley and the homophobia? Have they alienated their actual backers/advertisers?

Was it this you read? 'The team'? This is from four separate people, each bio reads the same.

everydayfeminism.com/about-ef/about-the-team/

She’s also pioneering a values-driven worker collective co-op model and an innovative online business model to make this work holistically and financially sustainable for activists.

She is a queer, lush-bodied, Black, femme performance artist, writer, actress, filmmaker, educator, facilitator, orator and Faerie Queen Mermaid Gangsta for The Revolution.

She is also a playwright, poet, and essayist who identifies as a queer, sex positive, survivor who loves all things sacred and profane.

Her first decade of adulthood was spent making the journey from “homeschooled conservative Christian” to “queer polyamourous humanist.”

There is reams of this shit. Perhaps it's me, maybe I'm hopelessly out of date.

And what the fuck is sex positive?

I am menopausal so I am pretty sex negative...

And what the fuck is sex positive

Will say yes to whatever men want, no matter how demeaning, painful or simply boring, otherwise one is 'sex negative', which is the new lingo for 'frigid' or 'prude'. Remember that men still retain the right to call us sluts too if we are 'sex positive' in ways that they don't care for, or with other men when they want us as their property.

Ime sex positive usually means that you are in favour of the commodification of sex - porn, prostitution - and allows you to paint anyone with concerns about those things as opposed to sex itself.

From the bios:
^She enjoys rainy days, tattoos, and cats, and probably knows more about Jurassic Park than feminism.
Faerie Queen Mermaid Gangsta for The Revolution
Marina identifies as mixed-race Japanese-American, a bisexual woman of color, a feminist, and a Gryffinclaw.^

Yes, these people seem 100% serious about feminism, everyone should definitely donate money to them.

I do have to applaud them for being honest and stating that they know more about a dinosaur film than about feminism.
