Ist May - Big fat fresh start anyone?

So over the last few months I have been messing around trying to lose weight and getting nowhere - I am actually heavier than ever. As some of you may have seen from another thread I thought that trying something different might help so I went to my first slimming world class yesterday - unfortunately I was not impressed and I don't think it's for me. So I am using a brand new month to motivate me and spending today planning are more positive May and my meals this week. Anyone else out there also struggling but feeling positive about the new month?

Yes! Thank God, I need this thread! I have about 1.5 stone to shift? I'm going to try and do it by micro goals. I'm off for a long weekend in Spain in 3 weeks, so I'm going to see if I can tone up, debloat and shift a few pounds by then.

I'm aiming to up the fruit and veg, only eat home cooking, reduce the booze and move at least 30 min everyday.

Hi

Lovely to hear from you. In total I'd quite like to lose 3 stone but if I could get a stone and half off that would be a start! I think I am going to go back to calorie counting which I have done in the past - I just hope I can stay motivated.

Can I join? Need to lose a good 3 stone - keep putting it off... and am scales-phobic! So will be doing it by the tightness of my clothes! x

Yes please Gem to the Big fat fresh start!

I have just re-joined MN specifically with a view to starting a thread with pretty much the same title.

I'm also my heaviest ever and my weight is having a really negative effect on all aspects of my life. I am about a stone heavier than my previous heaviest ever weight - that I managed to keep below for 6+ years.

SW isn't for me either. I don't think long term any commercial diet is. I allow myself to go round in circles trying to work out what is but to get started I am going to ditch the wine (an almost nightly habit) and the other obvious things and up the veg. Go swimming/do Pilates in the evening. Enjoy making tasty, healthy meals from scratch - I have enough of those type cooking books! Just put into practise the 20+ years of knowledge that I have but fail to put into practise.

I'm trying to work out what my barriers to success are....fortunately I really like veg and other healthy food - so it's not that. Being organised around food and planning ahead are issues though.

Are we starting tomorrow? I may have just eaten a Mars Bar... ...and a Snickers Bar Blush
I definitely use food to comfort myself but also to weirdly punish myself - anyone else do this?
Bring it on tomorrow!!!

Hi everyone!

I was thinking that I would start tomorrow - I'm clearing bad stuff out of my kitchen and planning my meals today. I really want to stick with it this time - sometimes it just feels like it's going to take so long that I just feel like I will never get there! And yes, I also use food to both comfort and punish myself. I have a habit of sabotaging myself too, I really don't understand it. Whenever I've lost weight in the past I have weighed in on a Saturday and I have struggled with starting on a Monday (no idea why!) but as it's a new month it seems like a good time to start so hope I can do it!

I've starting the process of starting today. Simple things - so far questioning whether I am really hungry for something (biscuits so far avoided), not putting wine in the trolley at the supermarket, buying a new swimming costume, trying to make the better choice with what I already have at home.

This evening/tomorrow morning I plan to give the kitchen a good clean - especially the fridge, make up some nice salads and get cooking. I'm not going to put any pressure on myself to start counting calories or points or anything until I am ready - will be a few days at least. I will WI tomorrow morning too - I may go back to daily weighing or ad hoc weighing (not a great fan of the weekly WI).

Trying to think of things that I can swap into the place that wine and comfort eating was too Grin.

The wine thing is funny - I gave up all alcohol in November due to starting on ADs & just feeling like it was becoming too much of a prop- haven't lost an inch! In fact I think I've probably put on weight. This is odd, because I'm also not having so many crisps etc without the evening tipple!

Ooh, chances are I'll be the first drop out but I can sign in as the one who meant well?!

I was 3 or 4 stone over weight about 4 years ago. I've got down to being about 1.5 stone over through changes in lifestyle. To be honest I'd be thrilled to "just" lose a stone. I've knocked breakfast on the head and have porridge and fresh berries every day. I'm now trying to streamline my lunches so that I have the same healthy thing every day. I do not need variety, I need to think as little about food as possible. So I just made a pot of "random veggie topping" with quorn mince, carrots, red peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and spinach and plan to have that over a baked potato for lunch every day. I don't usually snack, I tend to just have my next meal when I'm hungry and I find I don't much want to eat after 6 or 7 so that works ok for me. I usually only have black coffee and water throughout the day with wine or beer in the evening with some food that will now become the worst part of my day in terms of calories. My biggest problem though is the week leading up to my period when I really lose the plot and am ridiculously, unsatiatingly ravenous. About 5 or 6 weeks ago I added about 15 miles a week to my walking - I will not do any more exercise than that except during holidays. This will be a long slow slog. Oh, and I don't really want to weigh myself. When I last weighed I was about 165lbs (that was down from my high of 185). I want to just notice and appreciate my clothes getting looser... if at all.

Me me me!! I've put on about 6 stone since injuring my back 3.5 years ago. I really want to try and lose as much as I can before spetember when I go on a beach holiday.
Still in chronic pain so won't be easy but I feel ready for the challenge!

Sounds great! I went to the market today (living in France) to buy the week's fruit and veg. Snacking, portion size and laziness are my main problem. I love to eat and hate to cook and exercise. 1.5 might not seem like a massive amount, but it's slowly creeping up, and as a short woman, I look horribly dumpy with the extra weight.

Ah very relatable, I'm joining you. I've lost quite some weight last summer, but this winter i've gained it all back. Every time I try to get back on track, I just fail. I hope all your stories can keep me motivated! I will try to check this thread most of the days, so I stay motivated. Hoping to lose around 2 stone before early july.

I will try to do the same as last year; cutting way back on the calories (no meat or carbs) and moving whenever I can, biking worked really well for me, the weather isn't that sunny (yet) where I live, but in a month time I will be able to spend more time outside.

Good luck everyone, please keep me updated! If you have any tips, let me know!

Nacho you won't be alone, I'm poorly too - any loss of mine will be entirely diet-related!

Can I join too please ? Got a stone to lose and it's getting on my nerves as I've had this since January. I have hit the gym hard this week but need my diet sorted, just need to focus on 3 meals a day and no crap.

I am currently 11 stone and ashamed to admit it. 🙁

I'd love to join too! I have around 3 stone altogether I want to lose but my first goal is to lose 1 and a half stone, I'm giving myself May and June to do this, starting on the 1st.
I've decided to start doing the 8 hour window, where you only eat for 8 hours a day- I'm going to do 10.00am-6pm, probably skipping breakfast unless I really want it at 10.00. But am going to try very hard to eat sensibly and exercise every day too, even if its just a small amount.
