WWW's put a spring in your step 10 years younger plan - week 1

Or week 3 if you were already doing it on the other long thread. Sorry guys, I'm on dial up for a brief while and so I've started a new thread, I hope that's OK. The rules, again:

This is not a diet. Being happy is important so the odd drink or something that makes you happy, like chocolate, is ok. As is the odd night of being out with friends and drinking wine/Cosmopolitans/whatever
BUT aim to eat reasonably healthily with lots of fruit, vegetables and fish
Drink as much water as you can, ideally 2 litres a day
take your make up off every night
cut back on alcohol or be smug like me and give it up for a while - 14 days so far and I feel great on it
Walk as much as possible: take the stairs instead of the lift; park a bit further from the entrance to the shops/work; walk to speak to someone rather than email if it's reasonable etc.
Use sunscreen every day
And I think that's it

I have to say I feel great for no booze and for eating well although I'm not doing so well on the exercise front. I am thinking about getting up at 6am next week to walk for half an hour in the morning sun but I'm not sure I'll be able to do it. Maybe, we'll see.

Anyway, welcome oldsters (from the old thread and oldsters in need of a 10 years younger plan) and newbies, all welcome. :)

I've just read the other thread and:

Batters, that's good if MI thinks you're glowing!
Ditto winnie, re your friend's comment, fab. You sound like you're doing really well.
Callmemadam, sorry about your mum, be kind to yourself, do whatever it takes
moondog, er, glad your dh, erm, appreciated your efforts when he came back from Turkey :) and glad you're still posting from there
Monkeytrousers lol at your whale comment!
Taitai, glad your reunion was good, I have Spanx magic knickers
Suzywong, honey hey? Ok, I may try it. Size 10? Am Envy
Moonshine, well done on covering the grey, it's most in the spirit of the thread and well done on last year's weight loss, most impressive
Monkeytrousers, I DREAM of being that weight, wow. But size too small clothes may well work!
Blackduck, gardening is fairly good exercise iirc
Yoyo, know the feeling wrt clothes, I detest shopping atm and am hoping I will feel better about it once I'm thinnner
Winnie, 17 weeks, you can do a LOT in that time imo, good news about pos reconciliation
Soyabean, good bike riding, well done, DON'T weigh yourself every day, no point! Once a week/fortnight/month is better, I'm sure.

Sorry if I missed anyone out, that last thread was a good read. I am promising myself teeth bleaching once I am thinner, anyone had it done?

Here we go again. Lots of exercise planned this week - I have my first Pilates class tomorrow! I have to wear tight clothes for my body assessment so that she can work out a plan for me. I can't say I'm looking forward to that bit but she has taught a friend and the difference is amazing. I am going swimming (well I'll bounce about with DS) later and when I am there I am going to book an Aquarobics class to see what that is like. I'll be doing the usual walking to and from school too.

I have been thinking of joining a Rosemary Conley class (shudder at thought) but will just eat healthily rather than rigidly follow a food plan. There is an exercise class in the fee so coupled with the weighing it might keep me on the straight and narrow. Anyone else tried it?

My skin is not good despite water and regular moisturising. I switched back to Clinique because the free gift was good but may have to order Liz Earle again. DD can use my Clinique as it is the very mild stuff!

Hands are shocking too but think it is the washing liquid I've been using. Ecover on list today!

I am feeling really positive at the moment. Hormones have settled so have lots more energy and will be off wine to pay towards the Pilates. Feel cheerful despite the rain!!

wow, hat's off to you yo-yo you are going hardcore

I may be a size 10 jeans but the lower half of my face looks like hilda ogden and I now realise it is due to so many years of smoking and is irreprable.
And I have just discovered ds2 has been squeezing the water I gave him in a sports bottle underneath the rug which is now warped and is pretty much the only nice thing in this shabby dismal little house that isn't even ours and so I am eating the remainder of the home made chocolate fudge icecream. And I may just go and blub and have some vodka. I haven't decided yet

Yes, I need to officially join (or rejoin) and get focused again after Easter break.

Must start drinking water (in good amounts) again. Will resume walking tomorrow as our main way of getting dd to school. Also have two exercise classes in the diary for this week. Plan a big food shop tomorrow, so hope to get re-stocked with good food....now that most of the Easter chocolate is gone. Grin Will return to Weightwatchers next Monday too.

People are tellimg me I look thinner, so must get back on track before I undo all my progress!

SW - just read your rant on the other thread! Bad day? I was very envious of you yesterday when reading Observer Food Monthly as there was a piece by Anthony Bourdin (sp?) raving about the enthusiasm for food in Australia. Whereabouts are you?
Re: Hilda face. Are you still smoking? Never smoked but still look wrung out. I am a worrier so I blame it on that (two deep furrows just crying out for Botox on forehead - not that I would of course).

can I join?

I feel woefully unexercised and flabby so have just started running again. More like a slow jog - fast walkers can easily pass me. I am trying to run early on sat and sunday mornings and then once during the week, either en route to work (shower at work) or after work before I go home. Worked out this time commitment hardly eats into my normal life. The problem with going swimming or going to the gym is the time it takes to get there and back and get dressed and undressed. I just can't spare 6 hours a week to do 3 one hour sessions. I know that you have to do three a week to make it really worthwhile.

I started running three times a week at easter and so far, so good. Am doing the race for life mini run in July.

Have also started to wear contact lenses more as I got lazy and started to wear my glasses all the time and they do make me look older and more mumsy, definitely.

Also trying to eat more fruit and veg as I've noticed it keeps me feeling more full up then endless slices of bread.

Have noticed no difference to my shape but my legs feel more toned and I am hoping the running is going to boost my metablolic rate so I can slowly burn off more calories. Hate dieting!

Yes a bad day, and I haven't exercised for over a week due to flu
Re Food in Aus, I 've heard rumours it's good but I've witnessed a lot of corners being cut. Will just have to get out more

Beetroot - the new one or old one? Not that I can add to my dusty pile or DH will have a fit!

Hello everyone :)

I am feeling really good at the moment (am trying to make the most of it before the bubble bursts).

Last week I did toning exercises every morning Mon-Fri and on Sat I did a Salca dvd (Rosemary Conley Blush ). Plus lots of walking and gardening. Also kept to Slimming World regime without all of the cr*p that SW seem to encourage (I'd rather not have muller yogurts and macaroni from a tin or artificial sweetener ... yuk). I lost one and a half pounds this week which is better than nothing & I keep visualising 1.5lbs of butter and that puts it in perspective. I am eating loads of fruit and veg, drinking at least 1.5 litres of water a day and cleansing, moisturising, using suncream and handcream and limiting coffee and alcohol.

Also treated myself to some lovely high wedgy sandals which are lovely (& dd is trying to pinch) plus they are really comfy Shock

Well done www on the lack of alcohol.
Good luck everyone.

Fantastic Winnie! You sound really upbeat. I have put my name down for an allotment too so will hopefully be digging soon (the thought of fresh veg will be motivation).

Tigermoth - good luck with the running. I still haven't taken DD up on her offer to run with me (she would put me to shame and she is only 10!).

Can I join? I got the sack from weight watchers, Have lost nearly all my weight, but have a jelly belly. Had a load of fags saturday night even though I haven't smoked for 4 weeks :( want to be fit and healthy. Have just turned the kettle off and will now fill a pint glass with water!

Report
WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 01/05/2006 10:11

Welcome Allibongo! Fags are VERY, very ageing. But you know that. I gave up 3 years ago and honestly think I'd be in an even worse state looks-wise if I still smoked. On the not drinking, my motivation is being helped by someone on here who said an aquaintance suddenly became completely broke and HAD to give up drinking because there was no money and within a few months she looked amazing and tonnes younger. I was becoming florid, yuk! And now my skin is back to mostly pale and interesting.

Tigermoth, welcome, that sounds like a good effort on the exercise front. They do say that it's easier if you can work it into your routine somehow, so on the way to work etc. I've got emergency hand repair stuff and it does make a difference but I keep forgetting to use it. Yoyo, well done on pilates class, let us know how it goes. Beetroot, is Davina pilates? Yoyo, I am contemplating botox later in the year, will let you know if I do it.

It's another brand new shiny week today everyone (or tomorrow if you're letting yourself off over the bank holiday), onwards!

I have been keeping a food diary - for IBS, not weight, but oh dear I have had to admit to several rather glorious puddings recently Blush. And although I am regularly swimming 60 lengths - went this morning, am doing three times a week - alas, at nearly 43 the effects aren't as, you know, obvious as they used to be. Am feeling gloomily that It's All Downhill From Here.

On the other hand I have ordered \link{http://www.trevarnoskincare.co.uk/products/rose-and-jojoba-moisturiser-with-spf-15.php\this luscious skin cream I found while doodling around on the internet}.

can i join? i've been trying to do this myself, and am pretty good at the heslthy eating, although my school diner does nothing decent. go to pilates every week, and i'm making myself use the treadmill every day, though only for 10 mins. planning to go to kick boxing if i can find a class that fits around work & dd. my problem? i need to lose 2 - 3 stone - the inspiration - going to london in june, and hope to do some shopping, even half a stone by then would be a great excuse for new clothes. Smile

And at the other end of the expense scale I recommend, for hands and feet, the generic 'emulsifying ointment' you get at the pharmacy counter. It is mostly paraffin wax, the stuff which people pay a lot for in pricey salons, and boy is it heavy-duty.

WWW - welcome back and well done!

Lots of positivity around this thread - more so than there ever has been I reckon. I too have gone 'hardcore' and plan to give up alcohol for 4 weeks. So more than a week gone and I'm feeling good too! I've also given up chocolate and bread for the month and weight has (finally) started to drop off me. Only a couple more pounds and I will officially be in the 'normal' bmi range. My spots have gone, although no doubt they'll be back, and I have been trying to be as active as possible - gym, rebounding, walking, gardening.

I gave up smoking a few years ago (although still have a few about twice a year) and my main motivation was that I didn't want to get those vertical lines above my mouth, but I'm sure there's been plenty of damage already been done. Bloody crow feet stamping around my eyes!

Good luck this week everyone!

Trampolining basically! I bought one of those mini ones and try and do 20 mins jumping/jogging. Loads of claims around it being good for not only weight control/fitness/toning but helping boost your immune system, improving your sense of balance and agility, aiding lymphatic circulation etc etc. I gather that Gillian McKeith (devil woman imo) recommends it. Don't know about all that but it's fun and I can do it at home so easily.
