This activity is now closed

It’s no surprise that often having a family means more mess around the house, no matter how much you try to stay on top of it all. Plus, in many cases there is that one family member that seems to be able to make the most mess possible...realises that person is yourself Blush. With that being said, Caesarstone would like you to tell us the biggest mess that’s been on your worktop and who in your family created it.

Here’s what Jonathan Stanley, Vice President of Marketing at Caesarstone has to say: “It’s impossible to completely child proof your house and you accept that accidents and innocent errors of judgment are going to happen. You can mitigate these by choosing the right finishes. No work surface is indestructible, quartz included, however quartz is virtually non-porous, which means spills will sit on the surface and not seep into it. That apple juice should just wipe off with a cloth and a non-abrasive cleaner and non-scratch pad will remove any crayon works of art. Critically, wine spills from that well deserved glass at the end of day should also wipe off without a trace.”

Was your young DC having a go at painting and decided your worktop would make a better canvas than the paper? Perhaps your afternoon of baking took a turn for the worst when eggs and flour exploded all over you worktop? Or maybe your pet has on more than one occasion jumped up onto the worktop with muddy paws...or even worse decided it was their new litter tray!

Whatever your biggest worktop mess is, share them on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck.

Batter. Pancake batter.

Oh god I can still see it now... trailed across the surfaces from whisk to bowl to hob back to another bowl... dripped down the cupboards... parts of it weren't clean up properly... it went crusty (shudder)

Never made pancakes again.

Ahem. And it was DH who created it!!

Well there was the time that DD2 thought she'd "help" by putting her full potty up on the worktop. Only she's not quite tall enough so she must have shoved at it until it tipped...
"Muuuummeeeee, I got poo eeeeverywhere"

Ours is tiny, and usually covered in supper and breakfast plates until DH washes up! 😂

My worst mess was when following a Jamie Oliver recipe for pizza dough - that didn't use a bowl. Big big mistake! There was oily yeasty doughy water running everywhere, down the cupboards etc. Cleaned it up and did the sensible thing and used a bloody mixing bowl!!!

Exploded boiled condensed milk from a sticky toffee experiment gone wrong. It was on more than just the worktop.

Worst mess was apparently 'not' my 5year old son picking up and spilling candle wax on out granite surface because it couldn't possibly be because he's not allowed to touch it ......

Though the worst mess was on my marble fireplace mantle when DH put a wet bottom glass on a Christmas card where the writing was face down wards, when I saw it and cleared it up the writing had bled through to the marble!!!! I was furious, you could see Happy Christmas love Sue and Family clear as a bell on my white marble Angry

Worst mess to clean up was when making rice crispie squares, I somehow knocked over the bowl just after pouring the melted marshmallows in. Hot, sticky mess spreading over the worktop then down the drawer/cupboard fronts with rice crispies falling after and sticking. I couldn't even blame the DC as I was in the house alone! Horrible to clean up.

Slime! And DD (9) of course!

Mine was a full jar of honey that had fallen and the lid came off. Sticky honey all over the countertops and running down the cupboard into the floor.

Love to blame it on DC but it was all me ooops!! I am still finding sticky patches 3 years later!!

The time I was making soup and I thought I'd put the lid on the blender....

All the melted fat from a deep fat fryer (many years ago). I was moving it from one worktop to another, didn't quite lift it high enough and tipped the contents out. At which point the fat started to set. Was on the worktops, dripped down the cupboard fronts and on the floor. Took hours to clear up.

We've had two 'bad' ones. One was a plastic tub of fresh tomato soup that I fumbled with and dropped on the counter and it exploded everywhere. Urgh, it went all over the counter, in the toaster, up under the bottom of the upper cupboards and on to the light fixtures. The stuff was everywhere and took forever to clean up. Kept smelling warm, vomitty, tomato soup, everytime the lights were switched on.

The other bad one was a similar incident with a tub of cocoa powder. OMG how fine is cocoa powder?! It went everywhere and again took forever to clean. It settled in a fine dust behind, under, over, in and on everything. I think the worse bit was the grouting on the kitchen tiles, which I had to scrub with bleach to get the chocolate off.

When I was on my health kick phase last year and living off smoothies, I'd been looking forward to my funky monkey smoothie all day. Peanut butter, banana and cocoa powder, with a handful of spinach and a splash of coconut milk, sticky and yummy. Except my husband hadn't screwed the bottom of my rickety old food processor properly and I shortly had a litre of sticky, yummy, brown liquid allup my white gloss kitchen, in the handless units, all over the worktop and all over me and my toddler who was "helping". 13 tea towels, a roll of kitchen paper and 40 minutes for that clean up operation...

Imagine pouring warm cream and melted chocolate i to a mini food processor. And not quite putting the lid on properly. Then switching it on....
That made one hell of a mess 😱
And yes, it was me that did it Confused

Chocolate ice cream from a while ago when me and dh thought it tasted funny so decided to have an impromptu food fight with it. We are still finding splashes of it everywhere.

Probably when my daughter practiced her writing with a sharpie, although that did come off. We do have a large rusted ring from the cast iron pot sitting on the side. I cannot wait to get rid of the awful 13 year old 'marble effect' laminate worktop that we currently have

Superglue ! when my hubby was making his airfix model and the glue dropped onto the work surface - other than sanding it down, there is no way of getting the darn stuff off.

We're always baking so good mess is always happening, I like to let them try and help so this obviously results in more mess. Pancake day was the messiest as they helped make the batter!

Glitter, glitter, glitter. I stupidly thought it would be fine for DS to do his craft on the kitchen island thing.
Also, like another poster, I once set the blender off without a lid. Sadly it was a red berry smoothie and so the kitchen quickly resembled a scene from Reservoir Dogs.

Bolognaise sauce that poured over the side of the bowl when dishing out!! There's still a red spill mark on the worktop!! 😫😫

The cat stood in the pan eating chilli, and then preceded to walk it all the way around the kitchen surfaces.
