Hello, hello,
We wondered if you would mind giving us your two penneth on which companies are off limits as far as advertising is concerned. Ruling out obvious candidates like arms dealers and the BNP is there a concensus about anyone else? Would for example MacDonalds sponsoring the Food boards make people cross or would it be a case of why not let them spend some of their enormous mountain of profits keeping mumsnet afloat? Who's aloud and who isn't bascially... (thanks in advance .

Porn. Don't think that should be advertised anywhere.

I would definitely be in favour of baby pasta producers sponsoring MN , but would be less happy about Macdonalds, Nestle, etc and did feel a little uneasy about the "store your own cord blood" thing.

Anyone selling anything organic, anyone selling anything to do with babies or children, anyone promoting recycling. I'm for alcohol and porn sites all the way "Debbie does Dallas" for Travel, "Stella Artois" for Relationships..

Sorry, on a serious note

I wouldn't have a problem with large chains sponsoring the site (but then I don't even looks at the ads) agree that there are others that would be offended.

I'd be quite happy for McDonalds to give MN lots of their money, after all my children don't read MN only I do and I'm certainly not going to rush to buy it just because I see the big M.

I wouldn't really like to see anything sexist or political but then you wouldn't do that any way would you.

Ha ha at arms dealers! I wouldn't be esctatic at McDonalds although if it prompted a few more slaggings off I don't suppose that would be a terrible thing. Ideally, and I know we don't live in an ideal world, I suppose I'd prefer advertising from (and am more likely to buy from) reasonably ethical companies but I'm not sure that's realistic or workable. Agree with bk about Nestle. You could always check potential advertisers out on corporate watch although I don't know how reliable a source they are.

bollocks - if they give you the money for it then take it

we're all adults here, advertising only works if you are susceptible to the message

if nestle's money helps pay the bills to keep the site running you should darn well take it in my opinion

it will certainly start some interesting discussions

if Macdonalds sponsored the food boards does it mean we won't be allowed to slag them off

If Mcdonalds sponsor the food boards it's going to actively remind me to slag them off
