Jeremy Corbyn - webchat to discuss self-identification of sex

On the Andrew Marr Show today, Jeremy Corbyn indicated that the Labour Party is in favour of a policy of people being able to self-identify as the opposite sex.

Could we get Jeremy Corbyn on Mumsnet to do a webchat in order to discuss the implications around this?

If he is unavailable, could we have another senior Labour figure?

Thank you

Seconded.

Yes please.

If he wants to take a position on this he needs to be able to justify it to the women it has implications for.

Agreed.
I am a pro Corbyn Labour member who voted for him as leader and took an active role in my local CLP via leafleting and doorknocking for Labour in the GE.
I am also a working professional woman and mother in my 40s who is a gender critical TERF.
I believe that transgender people in the Labour Party should have a voice and a platform to raise the issues that are important for them... but TIM are not women and those who do not have a GRC have no place on an AWS.
This is a very important issue for me and I believe for women in general. I cannot say with any certainty that I would still vote for Labour if self Id is brought in. And that is very sad for me to admit as I campaigned hard on the streets and within my own social circle to communicate Labour’s message of hope and social progress.
I believe that JC is a principled and honest politician who truly wants to bring about a more equal society.
I fervently hope that he is also interested in listening with an open mind to feminist concerns... particularly as he cited Mary Wollstonecraft as a political figure he admires.

There can’t ‘be equality’ if women are shafted by men with one agenda and one agenda only.

This is a brilliant idea.

Thanks for flagging this one, Popchyk. We're more than happy to ask about this and see if it's possible. We'll do that and update when we know more. Flowers

That's brilliant, Lorna. Thanks for your help.

If someone from Labour would do a webchat on here, could it be done before the beginning of March please? Labour has said that it intends to consult with all interested parties before making a further statement in March.

Would be great if this webchat could form part of that consultation.

I would hope that the users of one of the (if not the very) largest discussion forums for women in the UK would definitely count as an interested party :)

That's a brilliant idea as long as nobody asks him what kind of biscuits he likes - I want to crawl under the sofa when people do that.

If something does come from this, then I would see it as a single-issue webchat. Namely, Labour's policy of allowing people to self-identify as the opposite sex and the implications of that.

That's what they've said what they want to consult on.

Exactly what @seawitchly wrote. Exactly that.

I put my money where my mouth was for Jeremy Corbyn when the whole world was telling me over and over what a fool I was to have any faith in him.

Jeremy, you owe me this.
