Can we have separate board for London

Is there possibility to give us that?

I would like to be able to share my findings like a nice coffee shop I visited today and ask others to share their favourite finds.

Talk about local plays (musical theater or theater) or places and walks to visit not necessarily as a tourist but a Londoner.

To talk about history on London and various activities available for grown ups.

I've seen posts like that in chat and other boards in the past but they are hard to search for and obviously some disappear after a certain time.

Surely that falls under the remit of MN Local? Why don't you join yours? Theyre usually desperate for traffic tbh.

I shall resist from pointing out that most media/social media in Britain is heavily London-centric, and there must be dozens of fora online where one could already have those conversations. Twitter is one, I believe.

We should have a board for Yorkshire. We could discuss whippets and Sam Smith's pubs and why we all hate Leeds United (apart from Leeds fans).

Ooh ooh and we can type in exaggerated Yorkshire accents 'tha'll no get owt for nowt' etc.

Surely that falls under the remit of MN Local?

Local on MN isn't London, it is my borough.

I am on the board where I live but London board would be about everything London is about for people who like going out and not separated into local neighborhoods (32 in London!).
I work in the City and go out a lot in the City and West End, often visit Chiswick, Richmond and Wimbledon. I would like learn local recommendations etc. This doesn't happen on local boards!

I hope other with similar needs would support my request

the thing is if we have a board for London, why not Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, all the other cities in the uk?
Then there's places like Yorkshire and Cornwall that have particularly unique cultures, so why shouldn't they have boards?

Oh hang on this issue has already been solved look you can even discuss the particular local area of London mumsnet local

Are there enough interesting things in London to warrant its own board?

Report
NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 26/02/2016 12:27

I still don't get why we need one? And why just London?

We've already had a thread on here today about the London centric attitude of media why increase that?

Is it because of the Scotsnet bit? And the resent tread about Irish mumsnet?!

Is poor old London feeling left out?! Difference is Scotland and Ireland are different countries! London is the capital city of England! Why does it need a separate board?! Oh wait it doesn't!

thatstoast there are enough interesting things in London to warrant several boards, look at MN Local.

I think you who are advising me to join local 32 boards are missing a point.
First of all you can't be a member of more than one board.

So I am , for my borough.

There's no place to talk about things which are interesting for people like me who are interested about things in London as in going out, waking, cycling, events, festivals!

There are boards for
1/ Birmingham and Sutton,
2/ Liverpool,
3/ Manchester and Trafford

and many more.

I don't know if that is enough of those who are using them. People who live there could ask for changes but I am not in the position to do it because I don't live there.

For Londoners who spell 'theatre', 'theater'? That's not a Londoner, that is a tourist Confused

Where do you really live anti?

Report
AveEldon · 26/02/2016 12:35

You can join more than one local board

I don't know if Irish MN'ers need separate board. They can ask if they feel that. There's one separate for Scotland, they asked for it, they got it.
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/scotsnet

There's plenty of interesting stuff to talk about in an area where 8 or 10 million people live Smile

Why do you assume it is about being London centrist and not about wanting to talk about things which I near me and I would like to share them?
Why do you assume that?

Obviously for all who don't care about it it has no value. Why would it?

gooseberryroolz Where do you really live anti?

in London, with poor spelling.

BTW - criticising someone about bad spelling is a known tactic on the net, so I won't get drawn into this discussion.

Please report me if you think this thread was opened by someone who doesn't live in London and asks about creating board about London.

Even if there were a London board wouldn't people post in Chat "for the traffic" anyway?

It isn't 'bad' spelling. It's an americanism. That's what made me ask.

Report
gooseberryroolz · 26/02/2016 12:47

Why not just ask for a pan-london board on Local?

Report
antimatter · 26/02/2016 12:48

ScarletOverkill - I don't know if they would.

gooseberryroolz - therefore if someone was an American and living in London would you say they are tourist?
