returning to routine?

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone else has had there routine ruined?
Christmas meant lots of family gatherings, changes etc but we did plan by having lots of extra naps on the nights where we knew we would be home late.
New years eve DS 9mo became ill, high temperature. Went right off food and for a while milk too.
Today he seems better, almost back to his normal self, but routine seems to have completely gone out the window.
Had him in bed with us for two nights whilst he was poorly as it was the only way that any of us were going to get any sleep but now he is refusing to go back into his cot.
We are currently taking shifts to be with him, calm him and try to get him to drift off.
Has anyone else been through similar? Any advice?
