Jamie Oliver -5 ingredients Quick and easy

I'm in need of a distraction project from life - anyone fancy joining me in an attempt to cook my way through Jamie Oliver's latest?

So far .. have made Quick and easy fish curry. Made this for DM and I - went down well with us both. Used haddock as cheap and the rest was store cupboard which was handy. I was a bit heavy handed with the lime pickle and it showed in the taste so I'd def recommend to stick to his quantities there. The result was lovely and we both cleaned our plates though! Timing said 15 minutes or so and I couldn't do it in that as he had you both halving tomatoes and chopping the fish and then cooking the tomatoes all at the same time... so I did the prep in advance

Also tried Korean Rice - with Kim chi. This was a super tasty and easy lunch to put together. Really enjoyed it both of us (Dh and I). I wouldn't need the recipe next time as it's a great idea and technique to get your head around and will be good to have at my fingertips.

Plan tonight is harissa chicken tray bake.. looking forward to it!

I've seen good things about the flatbreads on here and I'm also planning those for tomorrow

I've tried the flatbreads (yum), the rendang (needed more seasoning), the rose prawn pasta (good) and the gnarly chicken (yum).

Wanting to try the fish cakes next...

Not willing to commit to cooking through the whole book as I'm meant to be giving birth tomorrow Grin but placemarkig to see how that harissa chicken turns out!

Didn't manage another recipe today but making one from his last book so partial credit!

Harissa chicken tray bake was really nice- it's a great way to roast veg and chicken and it was so super easy I would def do again- would be a great I've got guests and no time to prepare type of dish as doesn't require you to disappear for any length of time at all

Harissa chicken sounds good and useful (I find Nigella's chicken traybakes useful too).

Gnarly chicken: I did rice and stir fry veg with some of the unused sauce loosened a little and stirred through....

Are the recipes good then? I usually order Gousto/Hello Fresh which has similar concept with few ingredients which I like.

Following this thread because I love the book and have only had time for the flatbreads so far. They were so easy and turned out great. I didn't do the full recipe. I just made the flatbreads to go with a curry.

So did the pork burgers - delicious! Made a version for toddler and the greens were ignored but the burger, bun and cheese (substituted cheddar for blue cheese) all eaten. So quick- and easy! Getting into this...

A friend did a radish, feta and watermelon salad and an apple tart which she said were from this book. Great stuff.

I've done the chicken, mushroom and mustard thing (haven't got book on hand for exact recipe name!). It was lovely, really tasty and easy.
I fancy the courgette and spaghetti recipe. I'm going to try and do quite a lot of meal planning from it tonight so I'll report back through the week.

I have made the Chicken Pot Pie v good but juices quite watery, in future I'd put a tbsp of flour in the pan after browning the chicken, or put less of the water in, to make thicker juices.

Also the Roast Tikka Chicken that was delicious and a really easy complete meal you just chuck in the oven.

I made the Lamb Kofta Flatbreads but weren't great, tbh, quite bland and I'm yet to be convinced that cottage cheese is really a food. Would have been better with yogurt, but still not that good.

Great to see the flatbreads work, often its the only thing I need to get a meal together if i've got leftover veg curry in the freezer and rice in the cupboard and I'm a 20 mins from a shop so would be great to be able to knock them out.

I've got the ingredients in for the fishcakes and the lamb with carrots one to do later in the week.

I fancy the Korean rice, can you get kimchee in supermarkets?

wizzywig you don't need a lot of things for each recipe, but a fair few use jarred stuff I wouldn't normally have in, like chilli jam, lime pickle, hoisin sauce, black bean sauce, teriyaki sauce etc.

I can see I'm going to have a lot of open jars in the fridge...

Yes some of the ingredients are a bit hard to find - I haven't found anyone that stocks chilli jam yet for example!

Kim chi I got from a local Asian store - Longdan, there are a couple of outlets in London

So made the mango yoghurt flatbreads- really nice (mid afternoon snack for the eagle eyed!) would be a lovely brunch or work from home day lunch. I didn't get the ratio of yoghurt to flour right so had to fiddle with it a lot but I'm a terrible baker! Eggs were perfect - really pleased to know that way of cooking them!

Planning to do the mushroom noodles later .. can't remember exactly what they're called

We've done the Bangin' Beef Stew which was simple and tasty. Would be nice with some squash or something. We had rice.

Just had the tuna and butter bean salad for lunch and that was also good.

I have the Tender Lamb Shoujder in the oven right now. Have halved the quantities as making for 3 not 8. I've never coked chickpeas from dried without soaking and boiling them first. If you can watch the tv programme first that will help with Jamie's tips as there are really only minimum instructions in the book. Not a bad thing though.

I made the Sesame Tuna, you need to be quite sparing with the miso. We really enjoyed it and very quick.

Is it worth buying if you only eat fish and no other meat? I normally really like Jamie recipes but have recently stopped eating a lot of meat.
