Hi
I thought I would start a new thread as the other one must be nearly full and I might have lots of questions as it is our first time!
My DD is in the U10s for 2018 and hopefully also in South Easterlies. I told my parents about her getting a place and they would like to come to her concert if possible (I understand that this is 11am on 19 August at Port Regis school) or have volunteered to look after my younger children instead if needed. Given my parents get booked up months in advance (they have a very active social life!) and Port Regis isn’t particularly near where we live so we might end up booking accommodation, then I wondered if anyone could let me know how this works:

  • do we get a limited number of tickets? I assume there must be some kind of limit.
  • would the concert be suitable for children (my younger DC will be 7 and 5 by then)?

Thanks very much.

Hi Trumpet - 2018 DD's 5th year so will try to help; yes the concerts are extremely children friendly and they def won't be the only ones. Our u10s concert had lots of fun bits in it, but in any event they are quite fast paced and not too long for that age band.

Re tickets - there is sometimes a ticket limit i think and then additional ones for sale if possible. i guess 6 might be a stretch but i would ask the office when if reopens and they will give you a much more informed view of what normally happens for Port Regis

hope you have a great NCO year - the hoodies are a must have if you can manage it :)

My DD2 will also be in Under 10s! We need to introduce them. I'm happy to talk by PM if you are interested.

We usually manage to get six tickets for Port Regis without problems.

Yes if i remember from last year you buy your tickets when you drop your dc's off on the course. Port Regis is a lovely school in a great area we are going to turn ds's time at his course at easter into a holiday for the rest of us ( as it's miles from where we live ). There's lots of house rentals available in nearby towns including for short stays of 1 or 2 nights.
It's definitely fine to take younger children to the concerts we took ds's cousins ( just 5 and 8) to the under 12's summer concert this year and I have never seen the younger one sit still for so long !!

Thanks everyone - that sounds great.
Yes I am sure DD would like to get a hoodie. She is also keen to meet others before the course so that sounds like a good plan Waffle. Never tried to PM anyone on mumsnet before but will have a look how to!

Great information about the concert! Here's hoping for 5 tickets.
Will be great to meet new U10s friends before the course. My DS2 will be in the U10, playing cello and hoping to get south easterlies

Glad to find the new thread here as I have a question... I am a bit confused by the options of the payment. The full membership is quite expensive so we were considering to go for the subsided fee. I suppose it's not mean-tested. There are two options listed for further donation - £250 and £500. It seems we can just choose but I was just wondering what the majority would be...? Someone I know who's been in NCO in the last two years says she never added a donation as she basically can't due to siblings and all that. But I assume it's sort of compulsory to donate, like the donation you make for supposed to be non-fee state church school??

Kutik I think it is just that a donation if you can afford it it's not compulsory, but I know like all arts organisations that any donations are gratefully received

Thanks for pointing me over here! My son is in main orchestra, it’s his first involvement with NCO so all totally new to us.

My DS is in U11, also the first time for the National (did the regional last year) so new to the process. Smile

We're totally new- this was the first (and only) time he even auditioned!

My question on the other thread was: has anyone heard anything from NCO since the results came out? I wonder if we should be expecting an acknowledgement or anything?

I think you should get one very soon. Some including myself seem to have received but I am not sure if it takes a few days for the office to deliver. If you concern you can always ring them? I did a couple times before and they were always very friendly and willing to help.

Maybe they're doing it by age group. They must be really busy so don't want to bother them really.

We got bursary application forms a few days ago.

I think they are trying to sort out reserve places this week and collating bursary applications next week, so super busy.

I've emailed them. I don't trust Christmas post and I sent everything off before Christmas.

I haven't had anything confirmed . I'll pop them an email in a minute to check . I can't even remember if we got anything in the post last year. But I've paid and sent the forms off before Xmas so I'm just assuming it's ok

I got an acknowledgment of paperwork and money received today for U10s course. If it is anything like the audition results it will take them a few days to email everyone! Not heard about which regional orchestra DD has been allocated yet - hope we find out soon as we need to know which dates to keep free!
