I think we are nearer to the break down of democracy than we are nearer to brexit.

Nobody should be proud of what happened in Parliament last night.

I don't think we'll leave on 31st because opposition parties will get the extension rather than BJ.

Democracy is best served by having a GE now.
The longer this Parliament holds the govt hostage the more damage is being done though, definitely.

Parliament yesterday was a good representation of the country at large imo.

Is this a joke thread? (genuine question).

OP when you say 'Go BoJo', are you urging him to pursue his course of deliberately inflammatory and violent language? you know, the language that's just resulted in Jo Swinson's child receiving death threats? the language which resulted in him describing a distraught female MP's warning about more Jo Cox style attacks as 'humbug'?

or perhaps you are urging him to proceed with his course of assuming dictatorship like power and directly lying to the Queen? and us ?

Or perhaps you wish him to maintain his silence over who trousered the millions of pounds which 'disappeared' over the Garden Bridge project whilst he was Mayor? or the 'grants' paid to a woman who was giving him 'technology lessons'?

Or his attempts to stifle the Operation yellowhammer documents?

What do you actually want him to 'go' with? it's a genuine question, OP.

Extension sounds like a good plan, a big one as opposed to a small one.

Yes, the government held hostage.

Why did tm lose that majority. Sad

Take No Deal off the table and we can have an election.

Like I said on other thread - easily achieved by VONC & caretaker PM to submit extension.

Then vote for GE immediately (2/3 majority should be a given)

There'd be no need for one line bill in that scenario as the date will be unimportant & is in the hands of the caretaker PM anyway (so no risk that BJ would change date unilaterally).

It is entirely within the gift of the opposition parties now to do the right thing. Govt are powerless to do anything.

Take no deal off the table and there is no impetus for the eu to do anything. They clearly won't move out of sheer goodwill.

Boris is now considered so untrustworthy that the opposition parties are considering bringing in new legislation this week which will force Boris to request the extension next week - much earlier than the 19 October in the Benn Bill.

I'm not saying I have moments where I feel that was dusty. However resigning oneself to feeling brexit won't be done is also accepting we do not live in a democracy anymore.

That's the real death knell I struggle to think about.
And I keep looking at the shambles that is the eu and wonder why people have such allegiance to that band of bandits.

Maybe they don't maybe they are more afraid?

Taking no deal off the table allows the EU to control how long UK pays 1 Billion per month to the EU.

Interesting Parker.

I think it's time we had legislation to force mps to honour the vote and get behind the government to get us a good deal rather an colluding with the eu to keep us in.

Our parliament does not represent the people of the UK anymore.
You may think that's dandy right now, but doesn't it concern you that the eu may swing far left or far right quite soon and with talk of empires and armies along with the collapse from within of finances, you will be in very dangerous position.

No deal is still the legal default - all the extension does is kick the can a bit.

We'll be back at the brink again in a few months (as per earlier in the year).

With a GE though prior to the next exit day there will hopefully be a better attitude in Parliament towards cooperation on Brexit & getting a deal (if no majority again).

Obvs if a majority govt then clarity is there from the off.

@Parker231

How do continuous extensions help? The longer the uncertainty continues the more likely UK companies will move elsewhere.

Service companies are very precarious. All they need is office space and telecoms. Can be relocated very easily.

So the Jobs that remain supporters think they are protecting will be lost anyway!

So untrustworthy that they'll move heaven & earth to use every bit of chicanery they can to force him to act, yet not untrustworthy enough for them to call VONC (the easiest, quickest & most decisive course of action)....!
