Thank you for the new thread!

Great to hear from you Pansy - standard NHS scans are just 12 & 20 weeks so sounds like you're really being looked after.

I have one more official one to go and I need to make an appointment to see the consultant in week 35 - all getting very close now and I can't quite believe the baby is nearly here.

Thanks for the new thread @Daffodil21
I have mw on Wednesday almost 32 weeks then consultant and growth scan at 34 weeks. That seems to be a pattern for me now at this stage.. Consultant every 4 weeks and mw in the middle so being seen by someone every 2 weeks but that's due to my history more than anything I think.

Morning ladies
Just wanted to wish everyone a lovely sunny weekend
Has anyone experienced leg cramps? I’m on iron tablets now but yesterday and in the light I got the worst leg cramps in my calf I read up they can be a pregnancy symptom and also due to lack of iron
Just wondered if anyone else had any? Xx

thanks for the new thread and @purplepansy it's great to see you back. Sounds like you've had an emotional time but good that your consultant has helped reassure you a bit.

my appointments are all over the place as well - I've had some that second time mums aren't supposed to have and skipped others. I skipped the 31 week appointment and it feels like a long gap between 28 and 34! I'm desperate to know baby's position as it has a massive bearing on my birth options and choices. My gut tells me this one is breech too.

Those who suffer from heartburn - has it given you a really sore throat? I've had the feeling of something stuck in my throat/chest for a few days now and its so bad when I'm lying down that I think it must be heartburn but I've never had it before so I don't really know what it feels like!

PurplePansy05 · 05/06/2021 11:36

Thank you ladies. Flowers xx

My son is breech based on my latest scan and he definitely still is, I've not felt him turn himself and my bladder is being battered with all the kicks, tbh (lovely though)! My gut is that he won't turn and it will be a planned section. I don't want ECV, somehow I find the idea really off-putting, although I'm sure it's totally fine in practice.

Heartburn HQ here too and I don't sleep comfortably but that's not new. Made a big mistake mowing our front lawn this morning, I've overdone it and got so hot, swollen feet and all! I've cooled down now but I'm surprised how little it took, I did it just after 8am when it was still cool outside, but it was too much. So a word of caution, don't push yourselves too hard now, seems like the third trimester is a serious energy drain! xx

@wimbler Did it hurt? Was it uncomfortable? I am not sure what they actually do, but the idea of turning my baby inside of me doesn't make ne feel great. Is it definitely safe for the baby, won't damage the placenta or anything like this? xx

Report
Daffodil21 · 05/06/2021 13:11

@PurplePansy05 mine was breech at a growth scan but he's turned back by the time I had my next scan, so hopefully yours will too! The sonographer said there was plenty of time left to turn (I'm a bit worried he'll turn round again actually!) so hopefully that's the case as you won't need intervention

@wimbler I'd second all those questions from @PurplePansy05! Just the idea of it seems horrible and I watched a video of it being done - doesn't look much fun! Would you have it again or just go straight for the c section having had the experience?

Re heartburn - yes mine is right up in my throat! I'd never had before pregnancy so wasn't sure but I think that's what it is. DH gets is frequently but lower down, more in his chest, so I think lots of locations are normal xx

Just lost a filling whilst out for breakfast 😩 thank god for free dental care when pregnant!

Pretty sure my baby was breech at 25 weeks and then again at 28 but I'm sure they move in between appointments as all of my kicks aren't in my cervix. Someone I work with had an ECV and although she said it was really weird she was thankful for not having to have a C section

I found the ecv uncomfortable and slightly painful but I’m really glad I did it as I really wanted to try and avoid c section. It is safe and they scan you first to make sure there is enough fluid, baby is right size etc and they monitor them for 30 mins before trying and afterwards to make sure baby is happy. They gave me an injection to relax the uterus and gas and air was given to me if I wanted it.
( I didn’t use it)

They did use quite a lot of force bit the worst part was the friction of their hands even though they gel you up to make it less so. It took them a few tries but they did get her head down. Sadly she didn’t stay that way and then I was booked in for a csection.

My friend had it done the other day and said it was a breeze so I think it can be different for everyone.

I would do it again for this baby if needed but I’ve already been told I can’t because of past csection and the risk of scar rupture

lucyrp · 05/06/2021 18:09

@wimbler that's weird how far in advance did they do the ECV? The person I worked with had it done right before she was supposed to have a C section

Report
wimbler · 05/06/2021 19:18

They don’t do the ecv before 37 weeks as they want the baby to be full term Incase you go into labour or they have to deliver. (Rare but one of the risks they have to warn you about)

Ready2020 · 05/06/2021 20:17

@lucyrp I lost a filling a few months back and was told I wasn't allowed to get a silver filling while pregnant so would need to get a temporary one or pay full price for private. I couldn't see the point in free dentist when pregnant when you can't get fillings.

We spent a lot of today at the shops trying to find things for the house. We want a 3 seater sofa but it needs to be a certain length and it's just not working out. After quite a few hours going around the shops with masks on and the heat I felt pretty light headed. And decided to do the rest online 😂

Report
lucyrp · 05/06/2021 20:19

@wimbler yeah I thought they did it when they had you in hospital ready for c section or to induce you

@Ready2020 I think that might be more of w Covid thing than a pregnancy thing as I've had 2 fillings the last year and have only been allowed temporary ones because of Covid? I was supposed to have my fixed braces off in March 2020 but had to wait an extra year of having them on because of Covid. Weird if it is pregnancy though

Report
Daffodil21 · 05/06/2021 20:46

@Ready2020 I had similar - needed a full replacement and a repair. They wouldn't do the full replacement (he said it was because of pregnancy but I can't remember why) but they could do the repair, but it was either a silver one on NHS or private for a white one. I've decided to wait until after as I was being silly and paranoid and didn't want the anaesthetic when pregnant (they haven't been causing me any issues)

@Daffodil21 I've since read that you can push to have the white fillings through NHS. I think I will ring the midwife to ask what she says about the fillings first and then reiterate what she says to the dentist. It's completely safe to have the anaesthetic while pregnant ! Mine was silver that fell out so just hoping they can put it back the same

Daffodil21 · 05/06/2021 21:09

@lucyrp ah really. I'll have a look at that after august. I'm just going to leave it for now (I know I'm being silly!). Also don't particularly want to go to the dentist atm - last time I went there were 3 people in the room and also the dentist can't exactly keep their distance 😂

@Daffodil21 I panic about stuff like this as my teeth are pretty rubbish and crumbly and soft anyway so scared if I leave it to it's own il end up with the whole tooth falling out! Oh yeah thag makes sense I didn't even think of that! I feel like I'm the most relaxed person ever when it comes to Covid which is probably a bad thing 🙈🙈

I can't get a dentist appointment with my NHS dentist for the love or money since Nov 2019 Hmm. I gave up now, but will ring them after the birth and try again or go private to at least have a check over and a clean by the hygienist. FWIW DH's NHS fillings have always been silver. I only have a couple and had them done via NHS equivalent abroad and they were staring at me as if I'd lost the plot when I asked not to have silver fillings, quote from the dentist was "ehmmm, I've not used them for 20 years" 🤣 Awkward.

Thank you @wimbler for being honest, I did read quite a few similar stories and I'm personally finding the idea of this procedure uncomfortable and if I had the option I'd rather choose ELCS. I also do not want to be induced as having read up about it, I found out they give you the tablets I was given when going through one of my MCs to loosen up the cervix. I personally was unlucky to have a bad reaction to them and would never ever take them again, but it is very rare to get that poorly after them. I didn't know until recently this is what you get but now I am clear in my mind this isn't an option for me. So it will be between vaginal birth or planned CS I think and my instinct really is that the latter is coming at 39 weeks. I'll be discussing my options with the midwife this week.

I got so sunburnt yesterday! Need to invest in SPF50, I look like a lobster today and I never normally burn like this! xx

Daffodil21 · 06/06/2021 08:38

@lucyrp that's probably better than being too anxious about it tbf!

@K2a0t1i5e no idea how you got left off! I didn't remove anyone (except champson 😢)

Does anyone have any experience with ELCS? Is the earliest they'll do it 39 weeks? I really want this option but I'm worried he'll beat me to it and arrive early! My mum's labours were so short - she only just made it to the hosp for my brother (first born) 45 mins away, and for me she didn't make it at all and I was born at home without any midwives. My midwife said if he arrives early it will be classed as an emergency CS instead of an elective one, but I don't think I'll make it to the hosp in time tbf! If 39 weeks the earliest for an ELCS? Half expecting to end up giving birth on the side of the road on the way to the hosp tbh 🙈
