Expecting twins in 2020?

Passionfruit20 · 16/10/2019 07:37

Is anyone else expecting twins (or more!) in 2020? I just found out I am. They’ll be our first. Technically due in April, although reality means probably March. Would love to share with other mums in the same situation as I’m now reading a whole new set of baby books and articles!

I am expecting identical twin girls. Due end of feb but i will be induced/have a csection end of Jan.

How have you found your pregnancy so far?

Report
Robs20 · 16/10/2019 08:36

Yep me too. Due in May so in reality that will be c-section in April if we get that far.
How are you feeling?

Jemstar33 · 16/10/2019 08:42

I’m also due end of May. Non identical twins.
I’ve felt nothing but tiredness so far. So worried. I’m 7+3 today xx

I'll join!
My identical twins are due early March, so all being well they will be here by mid February. I have to say that I've been very anxious so far, I'd love to enjoy the pregnancy but I'm so terrified of all the things that can go wrong. Sorry to be negative :(
My hospital and midwife have been wonderful so far and I feel like they're keeping a very close eye on things.

It's my first pregnancy too so I have no idea what to expect, and every new sensation has me worrying! I seem to have got off lightly with the morning sickness, which was bad but only lasted two weeks. I am just very tired, I can't seem to get up in the mornings anymore!

Although I'm worried about the pregnancy I feel so incredibly blessed, excited and happy. Aren't we lucky Smile ❤️

@Jemstar33 have you had your booking appt yet?

Report
Jemstar33 · 16/10/2019 09:43

@robs20 not yet, it’s on the 6th Nov. What about you?

Forgot to mention this will (hopefully) be my first and second baby! I had a mc in July at 5 weeks so I’ve been on pins. Wish I could relax and enjoy it.

I can’t wait to find out sex. Is that 16 weeks?

I will not be under a midwife, but a consultant. I’ll be monitored every week.
The lady at my scan mentioned this is because I’m high risk pregnancy. Are all twins classed as high risk? I didn’t know if this had anything to do with previous mc and my age (33)

Hello! So many new friends :D
So all twin pregnancies are high risk from what I’ve gathered, although then it also depends on what type of twin (identical, fraternal, one placenta or two placentas, one sac or two sacs). I am identical with one placenta and two sacs, so from 16 weeks I’ll apparently get scanned every two weeks for the rest of pregnancy (I’m 13 weeks tomorrow).
So far I have had pretty bad morning sickness, exhaustion, headaches, heartburn - the works! But thankfully the morning sickness has eased just in the last few days.
Now I’m trying to come to terms with double buggies and whether I need two cots straight away and how long I’ll last at work! It’s all a bit overwhelming at the moment.

@passionfruit20 when did your morning sickness start? I thought it would have hit me by now. I should be grateful!

Mine are non identical two sacs/placentas. I’ve looked at a couple of double buggies they aren’t the nicest things to look at are they! Not been into any shops yet, just online. I liked the out and about but they don’t have a car seat adapter so thats out. I will be half way around Christmas so I’ll hopefully pick up a lot in the jan sales

So glad to have some new twin mum friends! This is a whole new world to me!
Jemstar I can’t tag you for some reason but I had a terrible experience at booking appt. there is a whole thread on the pregnancy board so I won’t bore you with the details!

Would be interested to know about equipment people are buying......Jan sales are a great idea.

Would also be interested to know about cars! Dd1 was very poorly so I always sat in the back with her. I am planning to do the same again (is this normal?!) so think we need a new car to get two car seats in the back and me in the middle......

Sounds like we're very much in the same boat @Passionfruit20, one placenta, two sacs, monitored every two weeks :)
I'm glad your sickness is easing up.

I'm too nervous to buy anything at all right until the last minute to be honest. Think I'm going to make a list and then send DH on a big shopping trip around the time they're delivered!

The car thing is stressing me out a bit. DH and I both have tiny city cars at the moment and we knew we'd need to replace one of them if we were having a baby. But having two babies I feel like we're going to have to get something much bigger (and more expensive) than I planned. I really don't want a big car. I think the main issue is getting one that will fit a double buggy in the boot...

Squiff70 · 16/10/2019 14:24

Hi everyone. I'm 17+3 today with non-identical twins - the consultant believes we're having a boy and a girl :) Sadly we lost twins (also a boy and a girl) in January at 19 weeks so I can't relax just yet (please don't let that scare you, I had medical complications).

Having one baby is scary but two is terrifying, as well as exciting. Today I'm cleaning out unnecessary clothes and clutter from the wardrobe to make room for some baby stuff.

Hope you all have happy anad healthy pregnancies and way beyond!

@Jemstar33 I had it from 6-12 weeks give or take a few days. Great if you missed it! Some people just don’t get it at all. My mother in law had three kids and never felt so much as nauseous. Jan sales are a really great idea. I was also thinking black Friday maybe, but it might be a bit early.

@Robs20 @QueenOfThePumpkins

The car thing is a dilemma! We just have a VW golf which we love (we live in London) and I just don’t think it would fit two car seats and a double buggy let alone all the other stuff they’ll need? DH’s family live in wales so we go back there for weekends a lot, and I feel like we would be strapping stuff on the roof!

So annoying though with all the other expenses to now also have to contemplate a bigger car.

I am the same as you @passionfruit20. I am one placenta, two sacs. I found out they were girls at 17 weeks. I have been told they will be delivered by 36weeks.

I have been scanned every 2 weeks from 16 weeks and will continue to be up until birth. Scans between 16-24weeks are with a fetal medicine specialist and then the rest are at normal antenatal ultrasound due to the risks of TTTS reducing after 24 weeks. I see my consultant after every scan.

I had hyperemesis from 8 weeks to 20 weeks and got hospitalised 3 times. I am enjoying my pregnancy so much more now that I can eat etc. Now I am just feeling tired and have back ache a lot.

Started feeling both babies kicking last week which has been amazing to feel.

I have ordered the Bugaboo Donkey pram and nursery furniture. My consultant told me to have everything ready for 30 weeks just in case the babies come early.

I was worried about the car but if you go 'baby shopping' they can try the prams in the boot for you. I have a Peugeot 308 so not a huge car at all and I can fit the bugaboo donkey in and have a small amount of space for bags etc.

@Robs20 oh no, I hope you’ve had better appointments since?

We have a small 2 seater and then DPs company car so we will be getting rid of the small one. I like the Volvo XC90 but they are pricey. We’re in Glasgow but my parents are north west England so I want something I feel safe driving long distance in.

Lidl have a baby event on tomorrow and they have those next to me’s in. If anyone is interested.

Also saw in Aldi they have Moses baskets and cot bed mattress for £15. They also do a cot bed online which is nice, it’s prob more cost effective. I won’t be buying anything for a while, I’m still early days.

@Squiff70 sorry to hear about your losses ❤️

The bugaboo donkey is really nice @Wishing56

I’m expecting non-identical twin boys! 21+3 today. Feeling enormous and my hips ache so much, but otherwise feeling good! We’ve bought our buggy now, car seats are next and then we’re just waiting for nursery furniture to arrive.

Due 23 Feb but won’t go over 2 Feb. At the last scan both babies were head down so if they stay that way I could be pushing them out!

I don't qualify for this group as my twins are 2 and a half now, but I just wanted to say to those of you expecting ID twins please please make sure you're aware of the symptoms of TTTS.

Don't panic, it's rare, but I didn't know the symptoms as well as I should have and could so easily have lost my twins if it wasn't for the fact that I happened to have a scan around the same time as it developed.

Congratulations to you all Smile

@twinmum2017 - you’re welcome to stay and offer advice! Really good to know about TTTS too, I’ve read a little bit but not much yet (I’m only 13 weeks).

@Wishing56 great to know about your pram choice and the car. I think I will go and see if I can try some in our boot. So cool that you’re feeling them kick now! Can you tell when it’s a different baby each time?

@MrsEG what buggy did you buy?

Can I stop even though my naughty babies will escape a year early?

Report
Wishing56 · 16/10/2019 19:51

@Passionfruit20 yes most of the time i can tell as my twins stick to their left and right hand positions. Sometimes i get a kick just above my belly button so not sure which one is kicking down the middle.

@Passionfruit20 don't read too much. It's terrifying and as I say rare, but just keep an eye out for sudden growth (I thought my bump had just 'popped') and firmness.

@SleepingStandingUp the scans should pick it up, that's why they do them so regularly. But it can come on very suddenly so it's good to be aware of the symptoms.

Happy to answer any questions as best I can, feel free to ask away, otherwise I'll leave you to it Smile
