Baby names

DH and I both teachers and looking for quirky names!

My DH and I are both teachers and don't want a name that will remind us of any pupil in particular- so we need something quirky/unusual but not totally "out there"!
DS is 14 months and called Logan- a name which is unusual but not in the realms of wacky and everyone seems to love it.
DC2 due in August and we don't know the sex.
Any ideas?
We've come up with a couple:
Blake
Riley
Noah

Violet
Scarlet (I don't like but DH does!)
Summer (too corney for an August baby??)

We are struggling! The more I look at the names written down the less I like some of them! I did really like Eleanor (Ellie) for a girls name before we knew my DS was a boy, but gone off that too. I think I've spent too long looking at baby name websites and got totally overwhelmed and confused! Confused

Blake, Riley and Summer sound like 'Home and Away' names from the 80's!

Two of my science teachers had a (joint-they were married!) baby girl and called her Fanny... should have known better really....

friskymare- we have friends with a Jonah already!
mrskitty-I love Finlay and Byron (poet theme here!) but DH doesn't. Am going to dash downstairs and suggest Viola to him! :)

Hi shockers now you mention the home and away thing..... I get your point! But Fanny!!?? That's either awesome or awful I can't quite decide yet! Very gutsy of then though? (I'm a Biology Teacher but don't think I could go that far)

Fraser
Struan
Lachlan
Scott (bit x menish with Logan though!)
Ethan

When I was expecting ds2 I had Saul, Damien, Charlie, Noah, Leif and River in mind. I blame the pregnancy hormones Grin

Ayla or Isla were the only girls names I had picked out. Oh and Ebony. I had that in mind for my first who came out ginger! Didn't really suit! Hmm

Oh thank you everyone for all your suggestions- its given us a lot to chew over. Grin
I really like Dylan, but we called the rabblt Dylan so might be a bit wierd! Hmm
mrskitty DH loves Elodie and I really like Harley
Pestopenguin hadn't thought of Phoebe- really like it. I also love Finn but DH said no to that and Finlay [grrrrr!!]
Bonsoir- DH misheard Faye as Faith which we're both pondering over....
Stayfornoone- DH is a superhero fan (he thinks Superman, Batman and Thor are suitable suggestions Confused) and suggested Xavier but i think its too obvious with Logan! Ebony is a beautiful name too
GossipMonger- Iris is lovely, not considered this and really like flower names- unfortunately Poppy which I love sounds ridiculous with our surname!

If you think of anymore I'll keep checking the thread!
Many thanks everyone- you've been fab :)

For an August baby how about Augustus nn Gus. Or if that's too cruel, just Gus.

Report
Naturally281110 · 17/02/2012 19:11

Ummmm DH sister had an ex BF called Gus which ended all rather badly so DH said no!
Humph, what ever name there always seems to be an association with something or someone.

Blake - I really like this, though I know a lot of people don't
Riley - Like
Noah - Love, but very popular

Violet - fine, but not to my taste
Scarlet - not keen
Summer - No, prefer Autumn if you have to have a season

How about;

Jackson
Arlo
Davis

Cameron
Niamh
Felicity

oooh- liking Autumn, but may be a bit odd for a summer baby Hmm. I do like names that mean something. I loved Grace but my best friend pinched it first!

DH is sat next to me giggling and not taking this seriously at all Angry. If he had his way baby would be called Usain Bolt (my due date is the same day as our olympic tickets which are for the mens 100m final!!).
