AIBU?

When I see smokers with babies, I really want to yell at them...

Given the fact that smoking can increase the chance of cot death, breathing problems, glue ear and a whole host of other nasties (not to mention cancer) why is it that every time I go into town or for a walk in my local area I see 'parents' who think it is OK to smoke all over their children? It makes me want to yell very loudly!!!

YANBU - these people are morons.

There are (many much) worse things done to kids. I imagine I'm in minority here, but very YABU.

Oooohhh as DH says you never go home and beat wife and kids after 20 Marlboros do you?

Shut all the pubs and ban off licence sales of all alcohol IMO!

YABVU!

perfectly fine to dislike smoking and choose not to take part

very wrong to hate smokers as a group

Am disgusted when I see that especially in a car even though my mum was and is a smoker. Everyone knows betterthan this now.

YANBU - how stupid to breathe ciggie smoke over your kids. I would go as far as to say - it is abuse.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 05/09/2008 18:34

she didn't say she hates them. she said she wants to yell at them.

i'm with you on this, makes me very sad for the child.

i'm not saying don't smoke. i'm saying don't smoke around your kid. or better yet don't smoke around MY kid.

Unless they're giving them blowbacks, then yeah, YABU. None of your business. I don't shout at women I see formula feeding. And a little empathy about people who are in the grip of an addiction might not go amiss either.

trip trap.

this is getting SO tiresome.

I don't notice that. I think they blow it away from their babies. It's not great, I know, but never having been addicted to nicotine, I don't know how hard it might be to give up.

I do feel sad when I see mothers with bumps smoking.

you can't compare FF to smoking.

Does FF cause cancer then or contribute to asthma or cot death? gosh I had not heard that I wonder why.

Selfish, selfish, selfish. It is an addiction, don't smoke around your kids, get help.

Can of worms, spicemonseter.
I think point is, we all see parents doing things that don't seem perfect. But unless you know the WHOLE picture, and if the child is not in immediate danger or obviously managed by deranged people, maybe a little tolerance is called for??
