AIBU?

To be upset that I've gone into labour a week before my planned c section, and the hospital are telling me not to come in?

Just that really!
Having contractions since yesterday morning. Early stage labour still, but they are getting more painful each time.
I called L&D, explained my situation and why I'm having a c section this time (3 day labour with my son, failure to progress past 3cm, and 11months age difference between them both)
BUT they still told me to wait?! She said i don't sound in enough pain to come in?!
Thats 1) because I'm calling inbetween contractions and 2) probably because I'm not that far along yet.

I just do not understand why i have to go through this pain when a c section has been agreed?
Sorry i know I'm ranting a bit but i just don't understand their thinking and no matter what way i worded the question i still go told to wait :(

Any advice? AIBU to be frustrated?!

Same thing happened to me, I almost lost my baby as a result. I'd go in anyway. It's not great to be having contractions on an 11 month on csection scar

Maybe they don’t have space for you and since it isn’t an emergency, the safest option to to let you labour peacefully at home.

Go in anyway. With my second I was stood chatting at home to my friend during contractions and baby was born an hour later.

Can you call and speak to the consultant who agreed your c section and/or your own midwife?

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat Maybe, but i wish they'd tell me that. I'm just worried about having a similar experience to last time.

Unfortunately it's not an emergency so they can't move your c section as they will be dealing with planned and e-csections already.

Try and relax and gone in for a check when pain ramps up

@trebless Yes i did, which is why the consultant agreed to go ahead with an elective c section this time round.

@ZippyBungleandGeorge I didn't think of trying to get a hold of the consultant, good idea!
I've seen many different midwives throughtout.

You could ring after the night shift change - or just go in to triage for advice -

I just hate that i have to go through this again. It's already so similar to my labour with my son :(

@Elmo311 womb around scar almost ruptured due to being left in labour. In the words of the surgeon it was paper thin and they could see my baby's hair through it. I've now been told I can have no more children. Yes my example may be exteme but the midwife that told me not to come in had no real understanding of my case and just followed the 'party line'. I was back to back pregnancies not able to dialate

A second labour can go very fast - my first was very long, but my second was 4 hours start to finish and they didn't have time to give me an epi by the time I got in, never mind anything else.

I know it's hard, but your plan might not come off. It's very likely that you will progress swiftly, so measure the gap between contractions & be ready to go in sinner rather than later.

I hate the "you're not in enough pain" line. I get that they can't have you chilling out in their overcrowded ward for the next 12 hours, but it still seems so patronising.

How far are you from the hospital?

They can and should move your section date. Mine was booked for 38 weeks but I had the baby at 35 weeks. At least go in and get checked out. Things can go wrong very quickly.

When I had my second - planned section after an emergency section first time around - I asked what would happen if I went into labour and they said I’d still get the section I’d just need to go straight in before I progressed too much. You’ll have to fight for it by the sounds of it but just turn up and insist

How long did you have to wait for your c section when you went in? And how far apart were your contractions?

YY to phoning the consultant.

Take some paracetamol and lie in a warm bath, apparently it can slow things down (as well as making you feel a bit better).

Just go in, i would! They can check you and get you prepped for your section.

To all those posters saying "just labour peacefully at home" the op is clearly worried and stressed. She is having a planned section and needs to be seen by her consultant/senior midwife.

I am cross on your behalf.

If your consultant signed off on a section, that what you should have, unless you don't want it.

Go in, and request to speak to a consultant or senior midwife.

Same thing happened to me, I went in asap and they did it, no questions asked. I had to wait for emergency cases to be done but I was also classed as an emergency (though less urgent) as I'd gone into labour before my planned date.

You are entitled to it, if your consultant signed it off. So make a fuss!!

Hi op I had a c section with my first DC and it was agreed I'd have a c section with DC 2 , I went in to labour prematurely at 30 weeks, I was too far along at hospital and basically they ignored the original plan , luckily dc2 was very small so I managed a vaginal birth. Not very happy about it at the time but I was happy afterwards because I recovered very quickly compared to my c section

@crosspelican If i progressed that swiftly i wouldn't mind as much i guess! Started with Braxton hicks all day sunday/sun night, then the pain started about 9am yesterday and I've been contracting since. When they come i really have to breathe through and try not to tense! But this is the same as the labour with my son and the contractions never took me anywhere, just made me cry!

I'm 5 min drive from the hospital! Not too bad!

@jasharps This is an emergency section scenario

OP - I'd ring the Consultant or just go in if that was agreed. The person you spoke to probably doesn't know your history to judge & offer advice
