Most ignorant school mum ever!

I work full time but now and then I get to pick up my son from school as have flexible working. I have got to know some of the school mum's. My son is best friends with a boy at school. They get on so well . So I decided to try to talk to this boy's mum to arrange playmates and offered to have him round. However I have never encountered such an ignorant woman in my life. I've tried to talk to her many times at the schoolgates. She ignores mePretends she hasn't heard me. She won't make eye contact with me and turns her back to me. I have been pleasant and ignored every time. I had to go to a kids party with her again earlier I thought I'd have another go at speaking to her. I sat down at the table and she turned her back to me as i was sat down. I asked her 5 times as her son came over would he like to come and play with my son and she ignored me. Others at the table looked surprised. She didn't even turn round and just muttered to her son she is talking to you and he walked off. I just felt so uncomfortable the whole time. I just don't understand. I have never encountered someone so rude in my life. Aibu?

Autistic? Different religion? This is very weird behaviour.

Is she like this with anyone else? Sounds like a very odd woman!

Is she like it with everyone?

If she truly is exactly as you describe that’s seriously odd behaviour.

What’s she like with the other parents?

She sounds really rude

I would say she's either got severe social anxiety or she's a massive twat.

Does she talk to other people?

One woman at the party said she was giving her dirty looks. She is not a different religion. It's the not even looking at me when i talk and to turn her back to me everytime which really upsets me. It's just not nice

Does she speak English? Is she new to the country ? Maybe she’s not allowed ?

She is British. Very snooty.

It's not you, it's her. Don't waste one more second about this nonsense. She simply doesn't matter.

There are genuine reasons why someone would behave on this way. You seem to have made up your mind already.

How is she with other people? Are you and she from different cultures? It takes some effort to be that rude and good on you for persisting for your son's sake. How old are the boys?

Hard of hearing?

She was laughing and joking with some cliche but a couple of people commented to me that she is very rude. I've never had someone constantly turn away and not even look at me when i am talking to them. She is now pregnant and I said when she left I hoped everything went well with the birth. She ignored me and her husband snapped at me that it would be fine. I thought if I kept being nice the ice would thaw. I just find it a problem as my son is best friends with her son so I thought we would be able to communicate.

Boy's are 5. I keep wondering what the problem is. I said to my husband maybe I should ask if I've offended her but he said she is just ignorant when he has been there but I feel like she's being hostile as when I went to a previous party. I came up to a few of the mum's and she turned her back. o asked how she is and she ignored me. I just don't know what's going on. It seems v rude

She's not interested in being your friend or doing play dates. She's very clearly shown this. Why are you not getting the message?

Beside the point but ignorant doesn't mean what you think it means...

GertrudeCB · 29/09/2018 20:01

She doesn't like the fact that her son and your son are best friends.

Um by "ignorant" did you mean "rude" or "ill-mannered"? Ignorant means lack of knowledge or learning.

I've met rude people before but that's just odd. If she just didn't want to be friends with you she could have replied quickly and wandered off but actually ignoring you is bizarre.

It's her. I know someone like this, for some reason the lovely school office staff seem to cop the worst of her shitty attitude. She's absolutely vile to them. They are just wretched creatures. The husband in your case sounds like a tosser too.

She sounds dreadful and I feel for her son growing up. If he takes after his mother I’m not sure you’ll want your son to continue to be best friends!

Sorry. That sounded abrupt. It looks as if she has no manners although she may have social anxiety or have be deaf etc but I think it's unlikely.

I wouldn't bother with her anymore.

Diamondangel8 · 29/09/2018 20:04

I wasn't trying to be friends. I have plenty. It's just when I turn up to these parties and sit down with the other mum's she behaves oddly and turns away and won't even small talk. I was just trying to make an effort for my son.

I think perhaps ignorant is the wrong word. Rude, hurtful, arrogant ...maybe.

I'd suggest this is someone who has a sick personality.

Don't try with her anymore. She's probably getting off on your reaction, don't give her the satisfaction.
