To think this cannot be legal...

DS1 13 months would not go to sleep tonight so DP took him in the pushchair for a walk. He came across an absolutely massive snake in the park. Someone had let him out of a large tank apparently (not in the pic). Lots of bystanders taking pics. I know people can have these in their homes, but in public??? Cannot be legal right?

I'm a regular but name changed as I knew people would ask where this was and obviously telling the location could be outing. This is in Roberts Park, Saltaire, West Yorkshire.

This is for real.

WTF?!!!!

LockedOutOfMN Sun 15-Jul-18 21:57:30

This gives me nightmares! I'm so so scared of snakes.

HarrietKettleWasHere Sun 15-Jul-18 21:57:30

Did you not think to call the police or RSPCA?

Bambamber Sun 15-Jul-18 21:59:06

It is legal. Irresponsible, but legal

BreakfastAtSquiffanys Sun 15-Jul-18 21:59:13

Was the owner taking it for a walk?

ElenOfTheWays Sun 15-Jul-18 21:59:36

No idea if it's legal. But if it is, it shouldn't be.
That's a BIG fucking bastard! grin

BootsMagoots Sun 15-Jul-18 22:01:20

The tank must be frigging huge.

Barbie222 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:02:06

That's not good. RSPCA? It will struggle as soon as the temperature drops. Are you sure there wasn't anyone "owning" it? Taking it for a walk?.... although I'm sure they could move faster than an adult if they wanted to!! I know that park, so weird

HarrietKettleWasHere Sun 15-Jul-18 22:02:17

It's legal to take your massive pet snake for a walk in the park?!

JacquesHammer Sun 15-Jul-18 22:02:24

Oh I’d LOVE to see that!

It’s not illegal. Foolish possibly.

OftenHangry Sun 15-Jul-18 22:02:43

Well, it's hot enough for him to get some fresh air, I guess.

Was the owner around? These are usually really harmless, because they are well fed and are used to people not being food.

Barbie222 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:02:57

Ah I see someone was with it - but they can move bloody fast

steff13 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:03:27

Did the owner abandon it in the park, or was he just letting it out for a walk? What if it "ran" away?

QueenOfCatan Sun 15-Jul-18 22:04:24

That's mad. Was the owner around or had they abandoned it?!

wherethewildrosesgrow Sun 15-Jul-18 22:05:26

If it’s venomous/dangerous then I’m sure the owner could be charged with some kind of public order offence maybe

frankie001 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:05:40

It should have been on a lead.

user1481143387 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:07:53

DP says owner was taking it for a walk...

What if it gets approached by another animal like a dog?!

Geordiegirl1988 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:08:25

Wtaf

nellly Sun 15-Jul-18 22:09:03

Holy shit that's terrifying shock

Marmablade Sun 15-Jul-18 22:09:14

I would not go to sleep if I saw this.

No no no no no. Police.

user1481143387 Sun 15-Jul-18 22:09:20

@frankie001 can you put them on a lead or were you being facetious?

Solongtoshort Sun 15-Jul-18 22:09:33

There was a snake on the four court of a garage by me, maybe two weeks ago, bloody fright of my life.

It had escaped and the owners were found and it was returned safely. I thought l was scared of snakes it was beautiful.

wherethewildrosesgrow Sun 15-Jul-18 22:10:10

I would imagine only one would remain to slither away

StripySocksAndDocs Sun 15-Jul-18 22:10:31

How did they move the cage?!! It'd be huge and heavy. Rather large snake - what breed is it? (did it have a lead role in Anaconda?)

HarrietKettleWasHere Sun 15-Jul-18 22:10:32

I love snakes but that does not belong in the local park or in a table
