AIBU?

To want to go to A&E!?

My first AIBU so go a little easy- also feeling extremely sorry for myself!

For about 2 weeks I've been having chronic headaches (think can't drive/lights hurt) which I put down to sleep deprivation. On my worst days I used the codiene I was given after my EMCS! Naughty I know but when you have a small baby and no time for the bloody doctors you'll do anything.

Last few days been feeling a bit fluey- temperature, fatigue, aches and pains along with the usual cough/sore throat/stuffy nose.

Then, last night around 2am I woke up with this excruciating pain in my ear along with (what sounded to me like) a firework display in my head! Followed by fluid leaking out from my ear all over my pillow.

So I thought- happy days: must have been an ear infection/abscess which had sorted itself out and explains the headaches and temperature.

But the pain is getting worse. And I'm feeling so dizzy and just so so shit. My head is banging, my neck is aching and my body feels like it's giving up on me.

I sort of want to see if I need fixing, and getting through today has been a struggle let alone waiting all of tomorrow for an appointment on Monday 😓 WIBU to call 111 and ask if I should be worried or if I need to go to A&E?

I read a thread on here recently about wasting NHS resources and now feeling guilty Blush please tel me WWYD

Phone 111. Definitely better than waiting until Monday and they may find a minor injuries unit that can see you quicker than a&e. Good luck.

Phone 111

celeryeater · 17/02/2018 20:25

No harm in giving 111 a call. Its what it's for. Hope you get sorted!

TheNecroscope · 17/02/2018 20:26

Sounds like an ear infection for sure, my DS used to suffer terribly with them. Unfortunately it's not really a case for a&e, do you have an out of hours Doctor you can see?

Triliteration · 17/02/2018 20:27

Dizzy with headache, neck pain and known infection. I’d want to see a doctor as soon as possible. Sepsis is a possibility.

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:27

Wow some super quick readers here on MN! Thank you so much I think I just needed some reassurance I wasn't being a whinge.

Phoning them now, thank you xx

Ring 111 (or does your practice run a weekend surgery lots of ours in the area have joined together to run a weekend practice

10storeylovesong · 17/02/2018 20:28

My friend felt ill like this last week. She kept putting off going to A&E. Turns out she had meningitis.

GrockleBocs · 17/02/2018 20:29

Definitely give 111 a ring tonight. That sounds a bit odd to non medical me. It sounds like someone should take a look at you tonight.

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:29

TheNecroscope yes so did I they were horrible! But the pain subsided when they burst... which is what's freaking me out. It's been 18 hours now and symptoms much much worse 😭

Definitely call 111. I hope you get seen and sorted very soon!

angelnix · 17/02/2018 20:30

With all due respect, you have been unwell for a number of days and not sought appropriate medical care. It is neither an accident or emergency, you need to contact 111 or your out of hours GP and get an appointment for this evening.

PeonyTruffle · 17/02/2018 20:31

Agree with everyone else, hope you feel better soon and get it sorted

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2018 20:31

111 should direct you to the appropriate resource.

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 17/02/2018 20:32

I’d go to a and e
Hope you are ok

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 17/02/2018 20:33

I would suspect meningitis actually

Sisterj · 17/02/2018 20:33

111.
As above, it's not an emergency because you've been unwell for days. Plus, without meaning to sound harsh, you're posting on the internet.
I hope you feel better soon. X

HereWeGoAgain456 · 17/02/2018 20:35

Burst ear drum? I'd go to A&E or ring 111 and get an OOH appt Flowers

Frombothsidesnow · 17/02/2018 20:35

I'm glad you're calling 111, OP.

I am so fucking fed up of these threads with people posting 'it's not an emergency'. How do you know? How would you feel if a poster was guilt tripped into not seeking medical attention and died in the night of sepsis?

Medical conditions can go from non-threatening to life-threatening very quickly and I doubt there's a medical professional in the country who begrudges someone feeling terrible and scared seeking out of hours medical help.

Frombothsidesnow · 17/02/2018 20:37

SisterJ, there's a thread on here right now started by a poster who not only ended up admitted to hospital but who has almost died several times in the last few weeks. She has been posting throughout, from her HDU bed at times. Posting on the internet is not a clinical indicator of wellness.

ScarlettDarling · 17/02/2018 20:38

It sounds awful op and as none of us can diagnose you over the Internet, and as some of your symptoms could be indicative of something serious, I think you'd be foolish not to seek medical advice immediately.

Please ring 111 and they will advise you further Flowers

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:38

I know angelnix But I thought it was just a headache becase of how tired I am! I have a 5mo DD and not sleeping very well.

Sisterj Yes being able to write a post is a good sign isn't it?

When I feel really rubbish and tired it is so, so hard to tell if I am being a wimp or not!

In this case I think you should get medical attention this evening. I'm not an advocate of going to A&E unnecessarily but I think your condition warrants it. To those saying you've been ill for some days so not an emergency, remember CatThiefKeith anyone?

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:39

Oh fromboth That's a very good point
