To want to go to A&E!?

hollowtree · 17/02/2018 20:23

My first AIBU so go a little easy- also feeling extremely sorry for myself!

For about 2 weeks I've been having chronic headaches (think can't drive/lights hurt) which I put down to sleep deprivation. On my worst days I used the codiene I was given after my EMCS! Naughty I know but when you have a small baby and no time for the bloody doctors you'll do anything.

Last few days been feeling a bit fluey- temperature, fatigue, aches and pains along with the usual cough/sore throat/stuffy nose.

Then, last night around 2am I woke up with this excruciating pain in my ear along with (what sounded to me like) a firework display in my head! Followed by fluid leaking out from my ear all over my pillow.

So I thought- happy days: must have been an ear infection/abscess which had sorted itself out and explains the headaches and temperature.

But the pain is getting worse. And I'm feeling so dizzy and just so so shit. My head is banging, my neck is aching and my body feels like it's giving up on me.

I sort of want to see if I need fixing, and getting through today has been a struggle let alone waiting all of tomorrow for an appointment on Monday 😓 WIBU to call 111 and ask if I should be worried or if I need to go to A&E?

I read a thread on here recently about wasting NHS resources and now feeling guilty Blush please tel me WWYD

Best of luck OP.

You might let us know how you got on. It is helpful for others, but I am sure you will when you feel OK again.x

HopscotchShots · 17/02/2018 21:05

Glad you are getting checked out OP.

(As an aside, I was posting on the internet when I had sepsis. I went out for cocktails with sepsis...)

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 17/02/2018 21:05

Good luck op I hope it isn't anything serious Flowers

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 17/02/2018 21:06

If you’ve got a headache and posting on MN, I’d say it does not warrant an A&E appointment, however do you have a walk in centre near you?

You may have an infection and if so that needs treated ASAP to stop more serious infection complications.

JustTerfingAlong1 · 17/02/2018 21:12

My DH was updating his fucking FB status from HDU when he had sepsis from an ear infection....

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 17/02/2018 21:13

Yeah typing on the internet sick shows only that you can still move your fingers and thumbs - it’s not a good marker of overall health status

MsHarry · 17/02/2018 21:13

Get well soon op, better be safe than sorry and your symptoms are worthy of a check.

GrockleBocs · 17/02/2018 21:13

Good luck!

Hoddykins · 17/02/2018 21:17

One of my friends had such a bad ear infection that it burst his ear drum, and he had similar symptoms!

colouringinagain · 17/02/2018 21:18

Hope you're OK and doc is helpful.

Snoopey · 17/02/2018 21:19

It seems like you need to go to A&E - fingers crossed it's nothing serious tho OP.

geologyrocks · 17/02/2018 21:21

Did you call OP?

mumof06darlings · 17/02/2018 21:23

Best of luck op 💐

GrannyGrissle · 17/02/2018 21:24

Sounds very similar to when i had Encephalitis. A&E for sure.

museypants · 17/02/2018 21:26

Hope things turn out ok OP. This is what 111 and OOH are there for

Badhairday1001 · 17/02/2018 21:30

Glad you're getting looked at. My ear drum has burst a few times with ear infections and the relief was instant. Other than some deafness the pain and other symptoms disappeared as soon as the ear drum bust.

RhubarbTea · 17/02/2018 21:30

Fingers crossed you are alright OP.

AliceWhatsth3Matter · 17/02/2018 21:30

If anyone has a very severe headache unlike anything they’ve ever had before the advice is always to seek medical advice. It may “just” be a severe headache or a migraine but there are other more serious things it could be so it’s always worth getting checked out.

This happened to my daughter last week. It turned out to be a much more serious thing than a severe headache. I'm sure if she'd posted on here that she had a really excruciating migraine she'd have been told it was neither an accident nor emergency.

Declaring someone doesn't need emergency medical attention partly because they are posting on the internet is irresponsible.

MadisonAvenue · 17/02/2018 21:34

Hope it's nothing serious OP Flowers

youarenotkiddingme · 17/02/2018 21:35

And hundreds of posters repeating it's not a and e phone 111, when she's phoned 111 and is off to OOh is ridiculous.

People post to ask advice on next course of action.

mummmy2017 · 17/02/2018 21:42

Hope it's not too bad.

trinity0097 · 17/02/2018 21:43

I was severely ill in hospital this time last year and posting online kept me sane, when I was awake enough to not be too doped up on morphine!
It can take your mind off your pain/worries!

FaithEverPresent · 17/02/2018 21:48

Yes I’ve posted from my hospital bed on more than one occasion!

I think you’ll probably be seen quicker via OOH op and if you did have to be admitted, it could well be faster (that’s what happened to me). I hope it’s nothing serious but I’m glad you’re getting it checked out.

Iceskatingsnake · 17/02/2018 21:48

Glad you are going to get checked out. I’ve had a burst eardrum. The pain before it burst was mind blowing but the minute it had done it the pain immediately started to go off. It sounds like yours may have burst but as you are feeling worse you totally need someone to check you over. I’m not one for A&E visits just because someone has earache but the other symptoms you have could be due to something requiring prompt treatment. And if they aren’t, well that’s great but it’s not something you should wait around with. Hope you are soon over the worst. Sounds absolutely awful Flowers

TitsalinaBumSquash · 17/02/2018 21:50

I've gone to a&e for head pain before, my face fell and I was slurring, I couldn't tolerate light. I thought I was dying of a stroke. It was a migraine.

Feel better op.
