Hartley Hare and Pipkins - am I the oldest Mumsnetter in the world?

There is another thread where a chaperone gave a child with SN a toy rat to keep them quiet. I read the thread and was appalled and yet comforted by the pictures of the rat. Didn't want to hijack that thread but it reminded me of Hartley Hare, who was a terrifyingly bad puppet in a kids show in my youth. The show was called Pipkins I think and included Topov the Monkey and a tortoise, whose name I can't remember.

Am I the oldest and/or most disturbed MNer? As, while Hartley terrified me he also brought joy to my heart because he was such a bad little shit! I think 70s kids TV may have been dominated by people on some sort of recreational substances to be fair.

I used to love Pipkins.
Hartley was truly terrifying though Grin

I think it used to be on at lunchtimes because I only remember watching it if I was off school sick, or during the holidays. I'm not sure how I got away with it because I'm sure it was ITV and our house was definitely a BBC only house!!

I had blocked that memory, it was terrifying 😳
I remember Listen with Mother on the radio when Mam and I had an afternoon nap before we had a TV so I am the oldest MNer!!

Nah you are a youngster compared to me, I remember Watch with Mother, Andy Pandy, The Flowerpot Men & Pinky&Perky.
I think my oldest watched Hartley Hare, definitely Rainbow & the one on a barge? Crikey I really am an old gimmer.

My mistake, it was Hickory House. Hector’s House was the one with Kiki the frog.

Hartley Hare looked like a grubby, louse-ridden pervert who would most likely be on a register somewhere.

Where they all lived (was it a shop?) looked like it needed a good clean to me. It disturbed my 4 year old self greatly.

It didn't disturb me as much as Animal Kwackers though. That programme upset me for ages.

Actually the one that still gives me the heebie jeebies even now thinking about it is Potty Time. Incredibly sinister (probably actually v. tame but my 4 yo self couldn’t handle creepy puppets).

"My name's Pig and I'm hungry" is a favourite refrain in this house.

Loved Pipkins.

Hartley was a mangey, flea-bitten creep of a hare though.

Hartley was horrible. The whole shop looked like it stank of damp carpet, mould, dog hair, fag smoke and grease. And patchouli. I HATED Pipkins.

Very camp.
A sort of Kenneth Williams puppet for kids.
But with matted fur, dodgy teeth and creepy eyes...
Shock

Only watched Pipkins when I was poorly and at my Grandma's (we were a BBC house, lovely Grandma was much more liberal).
