DH ordered a camera, a very pricey camera.. ( well, to me! I don't know about cameras, it's almost 1400 pounds. Annoying, but that's a whole other thread!)

Today I've been home all day, as DD1 doesn't have nursery, my plans fell through and DD2's rash looks horrific) No one knocked on my door.. No one rang the bell. I haven't hoovered or anything loud, and I have a dog who usually barks at both of these things.

I go outside to get my charger from the car and there is a box on my doorstep.

It's the camera.

Clearly unsigned for, no attempt even made.

I do live on a lovely street, but there is a school here so lots of foot traffic. Anyone could have taken it.

It's over a thousand pounds!!

I am very very tempted to tell them I didn't get it and just cancel my order...?

It would be very dishonest and just wrong.

Don't you dare!
Naughty, wrong and Karma will bite you on your bum.

Presumably it came by courier? So there will no doubt be proof that it passed through the system until the last link in the chain. You'll be quite happy to potentially get someone fired so you can prove your point, and cheat the company you bought from as well?

Sorry - are you saying you are going to commit theft by keeping the camera and asking for a refund or have I misunderstood?

Well, what's the worst that can happen - the delivery driver gets sacked may be ... you get caught out when someone sees you using the camera.

It wasn't your order it was your husband's. Is he not entitled to order a camera?

wonderingsoul · 27/02/2014 16:05

was it yodel?

unless the company has thier own transit/dilivery comp then i think its the people who dilivered its thought.

i would make the company you brought off a ware though

I'm not sure why you would. Fiddle a company out of £1000+ because a delivery person was lazy?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 27/02/2014 16:08

So, the delivery guy was an arse and just dumped it, so you want to steal from the company and be an arse as payback? And you're asking on AIBU, thus wondering if you people agree that you would be right to steal? Hmm

Of course he is!

I knew it was coming ( wasn't overly happy about the price which seems crazy for a camera?!)

But just total disbelief that they can just leave something that valuable in full view of a street where anyone could grab it, it's quite a large box.

I've had deliveries before where they left it tucked behind the plant pot, or even in the bin ( I hate that)

But I was home? My car is on the drive, the TV is on and can be seen from the front if you're coming to my door..

I totally understand the temptation, and I'd have considered it for a few seconds too Smile - if only to teach the useless delivery company a lesson! To clarify - should it definitely have been signed for, or just safely delivered? Although leaving on a front doorstep doesn't really count as safe delivery to me... I'd accept carting round the back and putting a note through the front door, but that's only because this is a very low crime area.

Which delivery company was it btw?

Give feedback to the seller on their choice of delivery/ courier.

Do you really feel it would be morally acceptable to claim you didnt receive it?

Regardless of the lazy delivery driver's behaviour, it still doesn't make it ok to steal £1400 from a company. A 5 year old could understand that!

Report
curiousgeorgie · 27/02/2014 16:12

I just think that leaving it outside with no signature is completely unacceptable.

If someone had taken it, the delivery driver would be in trouble right? So why do it?

Give over. It didn't get stolen. Just let the camera company know that their courier was crap. No need to punish them to the tune of £1000.

Just to be awkward I would contact the company from where you purchased it and ask them if they can track it with the courier company. When/if they come back saying the courier claims it was delivered or signed for ask to see a copy of the signature. Some often forge them, I know this for a fact. Then, when you have played merry hell with them and got the courier into trouble tell them it finally turned up, your neighbour several doors down was passing and took it in as she thought it was unsafe for it to be lying there in full view and has only just managed to drop it off.

Well complain about the delivery person then.

Are you looking for everyone to pat you on the back for being dishonest? Grow up.

I deserve para on the back from all of you...
