Wtaf are you only a good role model to your DC if you are in paid employment?
Why does someone only be valid in society if they earn?
Why should I work only to pay someone else do a job to look after my DC? wtaf is the logic in that?
ffs

Sigh

I must be pretty thick skinned because I'm a SAHM with school age kids and I couldn't give (and never have given) a shiny shite what some anonymous people on an internet forum think about that.

If I ever do give a crap, I think I'll paper cut my eyeballs and pour vinegar in them.

I haven't seen any more anti sahm comments than usual, and I don't think that you are only a good role model to your dc if you work.

But when your children are older, and are all well settled into primary school, I believe it is good for your children to see that there is something more to your life than just them. That doesn't have to be paid work, it could be voluntry work, PTA work, looking after other relatives, anything that shows you contribute to society. It does children no good to see possibly the most significant adult in their life doing nothing except caring for a house.

I think you'll find there are as many anti WOHM posts too.

Just do what is best for you and your family and ignore the rest of it, unless you want to seek specific advice

It's not to me though. If I ever found it extremely trying, I'd hit the X button at the top of the screen.

Life really is too short to worry about what other people think about your lifestyle choices when it doesn't affect them.

You are right worraliberty I shall use that X button more often. I always worry too much what other people think

You see just as much about wohm but we all notice the bits we feel sensitive about. Took me years to realise I was only stressing myself out about that. As long as you make the best long term decision for your family let it go

Whatever it is that you do, you'll see loads of negative stuff on mn that seems to be aimed directly at you. I'm a teacher and it seems that every other thread is slagging us off. I don't see much anti-SAHM stuff, and if I do see it, it's always followed by masses of replies from SAHM mums and people saying they wish they could be a SAHM (I don't, but that's because I've done it and didn't enjoy it).

Cracker As much as some people do express breathtakingly strange/ignorant opinions at times, I still think it's good that they do express them.

I'd hate a forum where people felt they can't type what they think for fear of upsetting overly sensitive people.

If you're happy with your own choices, other people's opinions shouldn't matter.

Fuck me, I thought that bringing up well rounded, decent members of society was contribution enough.

What? Where?

Apparently I'm dull and lacking in imagination because I want to work and think I might be bored at home. It's definitely 2-way traffic when it comes to the whole SAHM/WOHM thing.

You only get one life. As long as you're not hurting anyone do what the fuck you want. If you want to be a SAHM and have the means to do so then who's business is it but yours? Smile

Stop caring about about what rubbish, no-mark, opinionated, judgey people think...seriously don't give a shit...Wink

I too have an issue when women are not seen as not contributing to society unless they are paying someone else to care for their children while they work??Hmm

I agree! Way too much SAHM bashing over the last few days. Much of it from people who either don't have kids or just have one preschooler.

Maybe there's a secret movement of Child Minders on MN, drumming up trade Shock

They're rubbing their hands together and making beckoning motions, saying "Hand your kids to us...you know you want to really. You have no right to want them all to yourselves" Grin
