Morrison's Supermarket and Hygiene

An interesting incident occurred at the Aylesbury branch of Morrison?s the supermarket this afternoon.

I had gone into the store on the way home and whilst at the back observed a member of staff wheeling their push bike through the store. Since they were greeted by other members of staff, I would guess that this was not an isolated incidence and acceptable thing to do. Well given that bikes go on the road where all sorts of un-mentionables are lurking, not least dog pooh, I don?t consider walking a street bike through a store selling food to be a particularly hygienic thing.

So I called the Customer Service department at their head office in Bradford. When I suggested that it should not be the case that staff brought bikes through the store, I was told it was no different to people taking pushchairs or roller-skates into the store and would I expect them to ban those as well. When I questioned this still further, I was told I was being silly. Maybe it is just me, but I left my shopping behind and went to Tesco instead.

So how is it different from taking a pushchair in?

YABU. Exactly how is it different from shoes, skates, pushchairs or trollies?

HandsOffOurLand · 19/09/2011 16:49

Yes, how is it different?

I'd say exactly the same as the head office. What's the difference between a bike wheel, pushchair wheel, or the soles of your shoes?

LOL. YABU.

What about trolleys, they are outside? Pushchairs? The shoes on everyone's feet?

Ummmm so what is the difference between a pushchair and a bike in terms of hygiene?

Do you often drag your unwrapped shopping along the floor in the store?

Do you take your shoes off on the way in?

HandsOffOurLand · 19/09/2011 16:49

Not sure that trolleys are very hygienic either, come to think of it. All that standing around in trolley bays outside ...

The staff where right.

It is no different to a pushchair or wheelchair, what about shoes?

People walk in all matter of things when walking outside in shoes. Shall we all leave our shoes at the supermarket entrance and change into slippers? Grin

don't be daft, what about all those dirty shoes that trail all over, day in day out?

bike no different to buggy, wheelchair etc - unless he was wheeling it into a food prep area eg butchery counter etc you are being daft!

You are being silly, the bloody trollies are stored outside you know! And it's no different in Teso either, so stop deluding yourself.

Well, they are right in that it's no different to a pushchair. Well, apart from someone pushing a pushchair would probably be more likely to notice and avoid things like dog muck.

And people walk through the store all day, bringing lord knows what in.

And it is the floor, where presumably no food is lying that is to be sold.

And supermarket floors are cleaned a couple of times a day.

But they were VERY unreasonable to tell you you were being silly. That's just not on. That was most rude of them.

It was rude if they were taking it seriously. But it's such a weird thing to ring up about that they might have thought it was a troll-type phone call.

Seriously?

Seriously??

How is it any different to people walking through the store with shoes that have walked across pavements. And the last time I looked it was pavements that have 'dog poo' on them. It's a very brave or very stupid dog that shits in the middle of a dual carriageway.

I might at a push, if I was having a really bad day say that a bike might be a hazard to shoppers if it fell over or bumped into someone. But hopefully I would then get a grip and think that life's too short to be worrying about things this trivial.

gordy I always wonder how people know for sure it is human. But I suspect I don't really want to hear the answer!

Report
gordyslovesheep · 19/09/2011 16:53

It was kind of obviously not dog! It was vile and the staff didn't want to know!
