I guess you mean politically what will happen Custardo? Well, perhaps you are delighted that legitimate political rights are taken away along with those who are motivated by crime and greed? Its an interesting question, seriously, and you should spell it out, politically I mean.

Totally agree! This is the excuse Dave needs to put in place measures to prevent people from gathering to protest. I fear that our freedoms will be the real victims. Sad

even if you get a hammering for it, you should really stand up and say what you believe ....

Turkish men gathered in the high street in Dalston and saw off youths intent on trouble. And 400 Asian youths faced down 150 would-be rioters on Green St, East London. No police in sight. No damage, either. Democracy and community action can stop this madness more effectively than rubber bullets.

Look what they are doing with the freedom they have got. Hmm

I think that the events of the last couple of days have simply proven that crime, greed and thrills are much more effective motivators than the desire to influence political decisions.

Years of anarchist, anti-globalisation and student protests have failed in comparison to a, relatively small, number of bored and angry young men.

Although any changes to our freedoms would quickly impact political protest and debate, they would have a negligible effect on the behaviour we are seeing tonight.

Custardo, I do understand that (so please stop banging your head) what exactly is it you are afraid of?

Oh bollocks to the lot of it. This is not some tinpot autocracy where the army rule the people. this is not Cairo FFS, this is LONDON.

This is civil disobedience organised by a bunch of ill-disciplined feckless youths who have seized on the flimsiest of bandwagons to take the piss.

They are so stupid that they are risking human life and limb, burning down peoples businesses and homes for a pair of trainers, not the right to free speech, not the right to gather in groups of more than 3.

They are destroying homes, businesses and facilities that will harm them long term. Investors won't be flooding in to mop this up anytime soon and tbh, I can't say I blame them. Our councils, rightly, have to cut back on spending, as we all do, and there will be no restoration of the areas already restored from how it used to be.

We have rights here, and we will keep them. We have withstood extreme terrorism FGS, you think a gang of spotty yoofs will change the way we live?

When you have actually lived in a country that IS ruled by martial law, that doesn't have any right to human rights, where the citizens really ARE a thorn in the Govt side, and utterly dispensable and supposedly disposable, then fine, but that is NOT Britain. And THIS is not Cricket.

I hope that this country sends a clear message to those that did this, and their parents, that enough is enough, this hands off waddamigunnadowivhim style of parenting is what is crippling our youth, not the lack of investment, facilities, jobs.

I think this will be very political, and I think good as well as bad may come of it. The problem Custardo is that you aren't really saying very much. Banging your head doesn't really clarify Hmm what you think.

I think it is perfectly obvious what she is saying. I'm actually not pleased that gangs of men are forming vigilante groups in the absence of the police, it really isn't a good thing to see.

I am very worried that these riots will lead to restrictions on legitimate protests. Before you all attack me, I don't see these riots as anything but mindless violence. Am off to bed now in any case.

Agreed, OP.

I do think there has to be somethingbthat can be done about the arson thing but TBH I'm aghast at people calling for the army on the streets.

I think it's inevitable TheMitfordsmaid, any kind of protests for the next few years are going to be extremely tense.
